After the staff evaluation, I was placed in a wheelchair and told for my own safety ( with no falls or history of falls) that I needed to remain in this until the next week eval. There reason for keeping me in a chair was because in the hospital my blood sugar was low but at no point while here did they check it. After eval I was not given or told about a PT schedule which is what I was there for. I was also placed in a room with an older female who could not get herself to the bathroom. Before arriving my doctor told me I would be in rehab for 2wks. The staff at the rehab told me I needed to give 30 day notice. I was told to not cry because I was emotional of being there and if I upset other patients then a psych evaluation would be done. I called my doctor and family members before leaving less than 24hrs. The residents I met and PCA were lovely people but that's it. Most of the amenities that were described in the brochure, were either not shown or discussed. When moving around I didn't see these amenities. For example, personal concierge services, onsite beauty salon, vibrant activities and entertainment. The awful Food uncovered was left on my bed table when I came out of the bathroom and I was not shown a dining area.

The people there from the nurses to the therapists to the social workers to even the people who clean the facility are uniformly friendly and professional. The staff are very attentive to my wife and the fact that her doctors at VCU check on her there regularly and are in touch on a frequent bases with Beaufont gives me great peace of mind that she is being well cared for. One more thing....the food is even good there. I have never said that about any health care facility before and my wife has been in quite a few over the past year and a half. While I wish my wife were home now, I am thankful that she is getting the care she needs to come back to me fully recovered. Very thankful for their care for my wife.

The staff are friendly and help. If a resident gets sick and has to be hospitalized then you don't lose your bed while you're out. PLEASE DO NOT LEAVE YOUR LOVED ONES AT THIS FACILITY! The conditions observed are deeply concerning…read moreand unacceptable. I am appalled that this establishment continues to operate without accountability for the neglect and abuse I personally witnessed during the 48 hours my mother was there, which ultimately contributed to her passing. During our brief stay--where we were with her approximately 90% of the time--I observed numerous issues that no elderly individual should endure. These included cockroaches, medication, and feces on the floors, which remained uncleaned throughout our time there. There were dirty diapers under beds, in sinks, and in hallways, and the overwhelming smell of dehydrated urine was pervasive. Patients requiring assistance with feeding or hydration were not provided with food or water throughout the day. Staff failed to check vital signs, wash, or change patients' gowns. Many patients were found completely unclothed, with no efforts made to dress them. The staff appeared disengaged, often sitting in corners eating and using their phones, neglecting their responsibilities to the patients. Additionally, beer cans and dirty gloves were observed in the parking lot. When my mother was scheduled to be placed in the dementia ward, we arrived early to meet her there. The conditions were shocking: urine on the floor, patients wandering without supervision, and a man walking around without pants. I immediately informed staff that my mother could not stay there, and they agreed to move her to the first floor. Upon her arrival, she was placed on a broken, dirty bed in a deplorable room. She was begging for water, but staff refused to assist. Due to her pneumonia, she needed to be positioned upright to drink, but because the bed was broken, we had to manually sit her up and provide water ourselves. My mother is unable to use her arms and legs so she requires full assistance with all of her activities. Once moved to the first floor, she was left unattended--without food, water, vital checks, or any form of assistance. We had to hunt down the nurses and beg them to take her temperature and give her cough medicine. She was crying in pain and they said there was nothing they could do. We were trying to move her out of there as soon as possible however this was a weekend and making new arrangements was not possible until Monday. We cared for her during this time, but when we left for a few hours during the night to rest, we returned the next morning to find her unresponsive. We had to insist that staff measure her temperature, which was 103°F, and call emergency services. They failed to check her oxygen levels, which were dangerously low. She was transferred to the hospital, where she was placed on a ventilator and later passed away. No individual should be subjected to the conditions described here. This place is what nightmares are made of. This facility must be shut down or held criminally liable for neglect and abuse. The staff involved should be terminated immediately. I have documented evidence, including photographs, which have been provided to Adult Protective Services. If you are seeking a nursing home for a loved one, I recommend consulting resources such as Medicare Care Compare. As of now, Canterbury has a two-star rating out of five based on health inspections and other criteria. The hospital informed us that the patient's they see that come from Canterbury are always in terrible condition and that there is new administration there because of all the problems they had. I spoke to the new administrator and she did not seem surprised by what I was telling her. My understanding is she has been there since May but she needs to hurry up and do her job and protect the people that are currently in their care.

Nurses are incredibly caring and attentive. Three hours a day of rehab (Occupational, Physical, and Speech); I will update this review once she is discharged. My next door neighbors in also at this same rehab; she too has been treated well. I believe this is a short term rehab hospital verses a long term one. But it definitely is a 5 star compared to other rehab hospital in the area. The location of the rehab is in an excellent location as well. It is directly across the Street from the Mary Washington Hospital ER.

I had had a second seizure along with other health issues, (pneumonia, UTI, SEPSIS which brought me there. I WAS VERY SICK. In spite of it, I bent over backwards to b pleasant because the good workers deserved it. I arrived at Encompass late, approximately 11:30 PM, but had been told I'd go there at 3 pm. I guess you were running late. The intake team was very good and welcoming. I was told what my basic days there would entail. I wanted to come home badly so knew I would do all I was asked to make that hope a reality. I met and worked with many people (nurses, CNAs, occupational therapists, physical therapists, speech therapists, doctors, and case managers....) I had only one real issue with an occupational therapist and I did report her, which is not me at all. All I know is her first name was Cheryl, and she doesn't work there often. She should never spend a day working there. She came at 8 am for me to take a shower my 3rd day with you. I have chronic back pain resulting from three major back surgeries and hot showers help the pain so much. I was so looking forward to that shower. I admit I was very weak, and her method ,involved my doing everything myself, and talking down to me when I struggled I took her condescending attitude but my being anxious and not trusting her made my pain level shoot sky-high. I tried to talk to Cheryl, but she treated me as nothing but an imposition. I told her another OT had helped me shower two days earlier to which she rudely replied, "so you don't really even need a shower.". I hadn't slept for a week and was quite emotionally down and did not need to be talked to like I was a child and a problem. My husband came to see me a few hours later and found me crying in my bed - not a good experience!!! The other therapists I worked with were good. It's a shame how one person who has no business being around people who need encouragement and compassion to recover can ruin the entire process. I hope my experience was not the norm.

Your comment about "everything being painful or involving too much stuff" tells me that you assumed that I didn't want to do the work. Why would I go to PT if I didn't want to make progress? When a patient says something hurts, you should listen to them and make modifications. I'm going to explain my reality to you. I hope that with your next patients, you'll be more mindful and considerate of their needs. You have a full schedule and I can only attend your latest appointments at 2 or 245 PM. I am not usually awake until 2 pm. I have a late sleep schedule and a sleep disorder from PTSD. I have PMDD and I'm in perimenopause which makes this worse. I generally avoid appointments in the 2nd half of my cycle to reduce my stress and the stress that I might put on others at this time. I've also been sick from an antibiotic recently. I made it to the last appointment even though I felt like death. You made a decision to fire me a month ago and you did not communicate that with me. That's not considerate or good care. I don't understand why you didn't communicate your concerns earlier or tell me that there was an expectation about attending in a certain cadence. Your organization is terrible about informed consent. I told my friend about this interaction today and he said this is how abusive people behave. Your judgements and behavior feel ableist and authoritarian. I thought the main problem was the administration, but now I see that you are part of it.
