I am an Army Veteran living with day to day CHRONIC pain and SEVERE migraines - who was sent to this location for massage therapy. My first thought, " this is going to be like other massages, same old same old"! Well...I have to say...my experience was the total opposite! I think sending me to this location was one of THE BEST things the VA could've done!! Hands down the best and most relaxing experience I've ever had with a massage therapist. Mr. Conner Overstreet went ABOVE & BEYOND!! He was very professional, patient...hit trigger points and massaged muscles I never knew I had..lol. Usually for me massages are very painful in certain areas....not this time! Mr. Conner used a combination techniques that made it well worth the trip! He also worked my neck and head area to assist with my chronic migraines. I SWEAR Mr. Overstreet has hands and massage techniques from Heaven!! I HIGHLY recommend checking Mr. Overstreet out if your wanting a worthwhile massage. I've booked up the next few Saturdays with him in hopes of being able to LIVE & socialize again! Sherwynn gives the best massage I have ever had--couldn't recommend him enough. He knows what he is doing when it comes to massaging out muscles. My neck was in absolute shambles, I could barely turn my head at all to the right and I left feeling almost all better! He even gave me follow up exercises to do to continue to help. Throughout the massage, I could literally feel him breaking apart knots I had and it wasn't even painful. I hadn't mentioned that my hip was feeling tight and he found it anyway and worked it out. I barely felt sore the days after. I am very COVID cautious and I felt totally clean and safe as well as calm and zen. They give you the option to ask for the masseuse to use gloves, which I thought was considerate. I have nothing but good things to say about my experience. read more

I want to like this place. But after I saw the news that one chiropractor sexually assaulted some patients, I can't look past the flaws of Advanced Wellness Center. I've had some decent experiences in the past with several services. But, there is a pretty high turnover with the staff. So, just as you develop a favorite, that person has quit or even got fired. I guess this would be a fine place for short-term service - well, except for the sexual assaults!!! read more

The clinical services I received were fine, no issue there. My issue is with the billing procedures and subsequent unnecessary drama they have caused in my life. The story is way too long so some advice if you are a patient there: make sure you know exactly what you are being billed for, they may not be processing services the way you think they are. Do not engage in any services the staff tells you are covered by your insurance without checking first, even if they post this information publicly and constantly tell you to "sign up, it's free." Make sure they continuously update the status of your insurance coverage. Do not count on a call back if you have billing concerns, I never did, but received bills reliably. Turnover seems to be an issue. In the classiest finale, they sent my account to collections during the height of the pandemic. Hope no one else is dealing with this. read more

Get 'em in... and get 'em out... This seems to be a chiropractic factory focused on cycling through as many patients per day as possible. I waited forty minutes for my "care giver," and another twenty minutes waiting for treatment after being placed in a dingy examining room. All told, my care-giver spent a total of five minutes with me, delivering a gibberish explanation of my condition and periodically disappearing to tend to other patients. Hey, I can get this kind of patient service at a doctor's office! Maybe I just caught the staff on a bad day. Maybe a bunch of care givers called in sick. Who knows... But in any event, I won't be returning. That said, the massage operation, in contrast, seems solid. My masseuse (Mary) was extremely professional and capable, and the appointment began and ended on time. But I was very uncomfortable with the chiropractic operation, feeling as though I was just a number being processed through some kind of "hurry-up" patient care mill. read more

This is my second review for the second reason for going here. I saw my chiropractor, Dr. Lowry. Brownie points include...listening to what I had to say in it's entirety. Thoroughly evaluated me and relayed to me in a manner I could understand. A day After my adjustment I have 40% more mobility without as much radiating pain. Can't wait till next week! Stay away from this place. It's not honest. My doctor seemed nice but the business practices are shady and opaque. Every time they ask to reschedule you they ask for your full up-to-date balance in full. And every time I paid. I last went there May 14, at which time I decided that I didn't trust them any longer. Of course there are the issues with scheduling me at the wrong times with the wrong people, shuffling me around two components of their practice that I never remember asking for, etc. Today, September 21 I get a call saying I owe them a bunch of money and they are going to send me to collections. Mind you I have not received a single correspondence from their billing department since I last saw them May 14. I am on their email list and I get regular promotional emails, advertisements, letters in the mail from my chiropractor saying hey it's time for your adjustment, etc. Not a single bill from billing. Next thing I know I owe them all these back fees, with administrative fees! I was told it's my fault because I didn't review the EOB with my insurance. Never had this issue with any service provider ever. Credit score of nearly 800..so..I always pay my bills. read more

We provided insurance information for my husband TWICE before his initial appointment. He arrived to the appointment and it had not been verified. The morning of the second appointment I called to see if it had been verified STILL no! I was told it usually takes a few appointments before verification is complete. He was never informed of this. Why have a patient potentially rack up a bill they can't afford if you don't verify insurance ahead of time? So we would owe them hundreds of dollars that could have been avoided due to their lack of process. When i called Sydney was rather rude and distasteful over the phone. read more

I went here for my second opinion after my charismatic but ultimately disappointing first chiropractic experience. After negotiating the short, but odd, phone tree I was put in touch with a very nice, helpful lady. Everyone I've spoken to here has been kind, helpful and almost frighteningly calm and healthy looking. If there's somewhere in Richmond where aliens are testing their happy juice technology, it's here. Torchwood, that was a freebie, I've got more, just call me. I filled out a relatively short number of forms for a doctor's office. I *could* have filled those forms out online, they emailed me a secure link...but I'm a lazy bugger and forgot to do it. Within minutes I'd been greeted and led to a consulting room by a cute, petite chiropractor who was very helpful and listened to me babble a little longer than most people do. After my last experience I was wary of chiropractors, thinking they may all be scams. No worries needed! They didn't try to sell me anything. They did schedule me for two "adjustments" before the "report of findings" visit where they'll tell me what they found in the tests, which I was skeptical about, but still went to. Even on the first visit, where they were just running tests they found a problem in my wonky shoulder. "I'd like to get you a therapeutic massage session." She said. I was worried that my insurance wouldn't cover it. She flipped my forms over and looked at my insurance information. "Yep! Says right here, 'therapeutic massage okay'! We'll get you in for one right now so that you don't have another copay for that." In my other two "general adjustment" sessions they taught me that your muscles have memory and will try to work your spine back into the unhealthy position it was in. They scheduled me for a short massage session after every adjustment to squish the muscles into a healthy spot. Good times! They'll tell you that it can be scary getting an adjustment for the first time since it'll be loud and feel "wrong". You'll laugh because only a complete plebeian would be afraid of cracking joints. You'll laugh again after the adjustment because HOLY MOLY that IS scary and you're glad they warned you. You'll probably also laugh during it because it is extremely awkward and silly to be manhandled around until your joints snap like that. After only two sessions my neck feels totally different! I feel so much better that I've been unable to stop commenting about it. My head even feels like it sits in a different, more comfortable position now. I can't wait to go back for my "report of findings" and get on a special treatment plan. If this is good, that will be better! read more

Originally visited for some PT on my arm. That went really well with a great recovery. Now have my PT emailing with my personal trainer (independent of AWC) to optimize my time in the gym. Just getting started so we'll see how it progresses. Long time chiro patient elsewhere, but making the switch to AWC. I hope to integrate my chiro maintenance treatment with my PT and my personal training. AWC makes it all possible with their capabilities. I recently began going here because of issues with my neck and lower back. The issues with my neck resulted in severe migraines lasting days at a time. I was a bit optimistic going in because I'd tried deep tissue massages from other places in the past with not much success. However, this place has completely changed my opinion on massages. This is a chiropractic mill. This is a crowded, gym like atmosphere, with people quickly shuffling you around to station to station. You cannot have doctors, PT's, and massage therapist all under the same roof without obviously noting there is a financial benefit for their business, not for the patient. Of course they want you to have PT and massage, its more money in their pocket. The unprofessional front desk staff speaks loudly in front of other patients discussing private patient health information in which I am sure is a violation of HIPPA. read more

I went there for the first time Saturday because they were at Richmond Public Schools' health fair. They charged $25.00 for a $375.00 appointment. During the appointment they were suppose to examine you, X-rays, and massage. Well all they did was check me out like a check up. I've been seeing Dr Fetherman for about 2 years now. I like the atmosphere and the open feel. The chiropractic massage room open and gives a very communal feel, but the spa massage, physical therapy, and modalities rooms are in another area of the facility so don't let that deter you. If I could give this place a 0, I would. As a new resident of Richmond I did not have any recommendations to go off of. This is one of the worst scam operations in all of Richmond. First "treatment" is just a consultation that requires your copay plus a hidden X-ray fee that is not explained until it is too late. The second go around they provide an adjustment then push you off to the e stim techs, thats make you wait in their lobby until its convenient for them to tend to you. Next up when you are ready to leave, they request that you go to their sales department where they sit you down and draw out a "plan" for you that is in excess of $1500 of out of pocket costs with completely unnecessary charges which included a massage membership, massages, some laser treatment, amongst other items. To top it all off they wanted me to come 3 times a week!!!! for chiropractic services!! That is completely unnecessary. I went there for a minor adjustment and even the pushy chiropractor seemed as desperate as they come. I did not return to this place after exhausted my account balance and got weekly phone calls asking when my next appointment was going to be. Keep in mind that I have PPO CareFirst BlueChoice insurance and have not had something like this happen before. I last attended this practice over 11 months ago, and now receive a bill in the mail for a charge they "forgot" to apply to my account after I only returned because I had a credit on my account. Terrible experience overall. Was supposed to be initial assessment visit. My first time ever going to a Chiropractor. It was such a miserable experience that even now I have nightmares about it. Maybe I'm just not good material for a Chiropractor, but I left there feeling as though I had been through a fight with Mike Tyson. I had a 12:00 appointment. Was called back around 12:20. I figured it was no big deal, a lot of doctor's run late. I was seen by a Chiropractor who asked me some basic questions and after I responded told me that I am the "ideal candidate to receive spinal realignment". Something tells me that every single person who gets seen by a Chiropractor is an "ideal candidate", even if there's nothing wrong with you. Maybe Chris Hanson from dateline should consider a story on them . . . After a couple of X-rays I was taken into an ice cold room and was told to lay down on the bed. She put some crappy automatic neck massager around my neck and left the room for 25 minutes. It was comparable to one of those chairs that they used to sell at Brookstone that "massages" your neck. It is now after 1:00. I am then removed from the isolation massage room and taken to their "professional masseuse" who is a female who is roughly 5'11, 240 lbs. She looks like the evil Russian from the movie "Dodgeball". She then proceeded to dig her elbow in between my shoulder blades for the next 30 minutes. Hurt so bad, but didn't want to appear weak as this was my first time at a Chiropractor and assumed that this is somehow beneficial. After that abuse was finished I was led over to some other table where I was blasted in the neck with some type of weird cattle prod thing for maybe 3 minutes. And then it was over. Left around 1:45ish. Now begins the really interesting part. Before I even showed up I called to make sure that they accepted my insurance "Aetna". I was told that yes, they did accept Aetna and that my copay was $40. I figured it was worth it to try and get some back relief. I paid the $40 and walked out of there feeling ashamed of myself., like I had somehow been violated. Told myself I would never go back again. One month later I receive a bill from them for $300. The bill states: Exam: $100 3 Views of Cervical Spine: $80 CMT: $50 Massage: $60 Electrical Stimulation: $25 Hot Pack: $15 Set of 4 Electrodes: $8. Total due AFTER copay: $300. So I called them to ask about this. My responses was "Oops, it looks like someone forgot to submit that to your insurance. Sorry". Well played Advanced Wellness Centre. Use the old "We forgot". Now I'm on the hook for this scam, none of which I requested. That "massage" was one of the most traumatic experiences of my life, and they want me to pay $60 for it?! Complete lack of integrity and the entire thing just seems like they should be operating out of the back of a van somewhere in Florida. . read more

Started going here about 2 years ago and have exclusively seen Dr. Lowery. I had acute lower back pain that wouldn't abate in any position. Having never been to a chiro before I was skeptical but desperate. My experience was awesome! It is scary the first time you go but I definitely had relief from the pain. I continued the adjustments until I felt I didn't need them and now I do the maintenance when it's needed. I feel great! By contrast, the ortho couldn't find anything wrong so he suggested EMG, MRI, XR and ultimately surgery if it didn't resolve. read more

I saw the acupuncture Dr who without my permission or knowledge took a photo of my bare back on his personal cell phone. I asked him what the cupping looks like and before I finished my sentence he handed me his phone. I stared at the picture for a second and then realized that was my back and bra on his personal cell phone. He did not ask for permission to take the picture, did not say he took the picture (his phone was on silent so i didn't hear him take the picture) and he should have handed me a mirror if i wanted to see it. He should not for any reason have taken a picture of me on his personal cell phone! I was so shocked that I didn't say anything. I went home and called the office a couple days later because I was feeling very upset by the whole situation. I spoke with the office manager who said she would call back but didn't. I called her back and she confirmed that she saw the photo on his personal cell phone and had him delete it. I asked for a refund for my two sessions and after multiple calls she has not returned my call. This is a huge violation and I am amazed at how little they have done to make this situation right. read more

I had requested a massage for my birthday this year as I was in my third trimester of my first pregnancy and sleeping had become very difficult as my hips and lower back were extremely sore. My mom happily obliged and called this location (as I had requested as I have many friends that come here for chiropractic work and they love it) and purchased a $100 gift certificate. She was informed that $100 would get me an hour and a half on the table. I go in a day or two later and go up to the new patient counter (I'd never been there prior). I speak with the lady there and inform her that I should have a gift card or certificate waiting for me and I give her my name. She attempts unsuccessfully to pull me up in the computer. I give her the name of the person my mom said she spoke to. She asks the lady at the other counter and she says, "Yeah, her certificate is in here with all the others." and she pulls an envelope from a box of similar envelopes. I am slightly perplexed as to why the lady I was speaking to had tried to look me up in the computer when, apparently, all the certificates are kept in a box. I shrug it off and just assume she's new. I mention that my mom said that the certificate would get me an hour and a half. The girl says that this is not correct and that $100 would only get 1 hour. I ask if she's sure and she says yes. I tell her that I'll have to let my mom know that she must have been misinformed about how long a massage $100 paid for. So I ask when the first available slot is for massage, thinking that it would be days from now as the waiting room was full. She says she has one open for that day at 1pm (it was around 10am at the time). I ask what is available the next day as I hadn't expected to get an open slot so soon. I am told there is an open slot at 11am and I'm given the name of the therapist. I agree and am penciled in. The next day, I arrive and am checked in without issue. I am taken back by my therapist and proceed to experience a very mediocre massage. I felt like I was back in school (I too am a CMT) exchanging massages with my classmates. I had hoped $100 would get me some hip stretching and more focus on my glutes as I specified on my intake form as well as verbally to the therapist that these were my problem areas. Instead, I receive work practically nowhere else but my erector spinae (muscles that run along the spine) and trapezius muscles (muscles most people go for when they give someone a 'shoulder massage'). The therapist asks if the pressure is acceptable and I say it is (it was a good firm/deep touch but I was not feeling any pain). The therapist starts a conversation with me, which I found odd (but not necessarily unpleasant) as I was taught not to engage in any other conversation during a session other than to confirm the acceptability of the touch. We talk for a while before I am asked to turn over to my other side. I begin to wonder if my hips/glutes will get any work but I refrain from saying anything as I gave the therapist the benefit of the doubt that my wishes would be considered at the end. I am told later that my hour was up and to take my time getting off the table. I am disappointed but I say nothing. I dress and end the appointment (I failed to offer my therapist a tip as I was leaving. I had forgotten to get some cash for that purpose but I'm not sure I would have tipped even if I had cash as I was so disappointed with my overall experience). All this is not even why I gave only 1 star. Actually, the one star is only for the wonderful attitude of the therapist as he/she was very warm and caring. I tell my mom later that weekend about my experience and that she was misinformed about the (time)value of the certificate. She is very upset as this was not what she was told. She calls the location later that week and explains to them what I told her. They tell her that I came in insisting that I only wanted an hour, exactly what time I wanted, and that I specifically requested the therapist I was assigned (which is ridiculous as I have never before been to that location before). She is also informed that I never gave any indication that I knew the certificate was worth more than I was told, only that I wanted 1 hour. My mom says that this is not how she was told it happened. What the lady says next is the kicker. She tells my mom, "It's a shame that kids today don't appreciate what their parents do for them. You were just trying to be a good parent and look what happened." As if I lied about the whole thing and took my mothers gift for granted! The bottom line is that the people that work behind the counter and the management are completely insufferable. They are rude and vindictive. Luckily, they offered to send my mom a check for the unused portion of the certificate (they finally admitted that $100 was worth more time than 1 hour) or to schedule me for another 30 minute massage. I told her to just get her money back. I won't ever be going back. read more

Lots of issues for me, so based on a friends recommendation I tried here. 1st let me say this is one of the most organized Medical offices i have ever had the pleasure of visiting. From check in to check out everyone us friendly, professional, and knowledgeable. They just make the whole process effortless! I need to come 3x per week for chiropractic adjustments and also receive muscle work. Dr. Bills is thorough in your evaluation, professional, very pleasant person, and an awesome chiropractor. I could not be happier with my friends recommendation! If you have neck, back, or joint pain this is the place to come. No insurance, no worries cuz they have a a plan to offer that'll save you lots of money.
