It's a store, though not quite as cheap as my bestie claims. I mean...it depends on what you're getting, I guess. It's not expensive, but not really any much cheaper than Market Basket. Also, the selection here is pretty limited, if you ask me. But since I come here for very specific ingredients, it doesn't really bother me much. I already shop at 4 different stores to get all the things I want as it is. They have contactless payment options. Always a plus for me. I only wish they would open more lanes. They have like...4 or 5 (I forget), yet they only open 1 or 2...even when the store is pretty busy. One more thing for those who don't already know: they use the bag-less system at checkout. Sooo...a bit like Sam's Club, only not as good. They have this separate immobilized cart at each checkout register they temporarily put your items in. I...just don't get it. I dunno. Now, before I'm accused of being totally draconian here with my 1 star reduction, let me emphasize that this isn't a one time thing. Nearly every single time I get a carton of eggs from Whole Foods, it is almost guaranteed at least one or two eggs will be inexplicably glued to the carton. This is a problem for SO many reasons. Though, for the sake of brevity, I'm gonna list two of them. 1.) It's damn near impossible to extract the egg out of its pocket without inevitably destroying the shell, thereby obliterating any chances of enjoying a tasty breakfast. 2.) Even IF you somehow manage to liberate said egg from its inherent captivity without destroying it, you'll ostensibly have to deal with the remnants of egg carton pieces that remain glued to the outer shell. My pro life tip for the second reason is to hard boil the egg so that you may avoid any chances of carton bits mixing in with an otherwise raw egg yolk once you crack it. And, so far as I know, no - you can't just wash it off. Because it's glued. Again, WHY ARE THEY DOING THIS?! I'm not sure if it's only this location that has this problem or if ALL Whole Foods stores are shipping their eggs with a few of them totally immobilized inside their respective pockets. It's like they were totally petrified of the idea that MAYBE the eggs would somehow escape the carton and break. Well, NUTS to that, since I usually end up breaking them regardless when trying carefully to extract them out of their cemented position. So, yeah....that, combined with the fact Whole Foods' hot bar has also somehow gotten worse with time instead of better, I find myself regressing my rating back to where I originally had them. It's still a wicked good place to get a few select items here and there. But these two REALLY annoying anomalies compel me to give Whole Foods on Amherst 4 immovable eggs out of 5.

And while that's not entirely hyperbolic, there are a few caveats one should be aware of concerning said grocery store. For one thing, they have online ordering, which is great! Thing is, they don't exactly contact you after placing an order to let you know that your order is ready for pick up. Basically, you just choose your time slot, place the order, then are expected to just...show up at your prescribed timeslot. Not really a huge deal. But it's a bit of an adjustment compared to the online ordering procedures of Walmart groceries. No checking in via the app, unfortunately. Also, this pickup service is way slower and stranger. For instance, you don't even park in a designated pick up spot. Instead, you pull up to what can only be described as a drive thru situation with no speaker box to talk into. Nah, evidently you just call the store to let them know you're there for an online order, along with which car position you're in at the time. Although I almost didn't catch that second part the first time around because I could barely understand the words coming out of the lady's mouth. That's another thing. Depending on who's delivering your groceries, you might get a young man capable of lifting up to 10 grocery bags at a time, or an elderly person who looks like they're about two weeks shy from retirement. At any rate, you gotta have patience with this service. One thing I like about Hannaford is their choice of grocery bags. It's like we're getting the best of both worlds here. That is, a paper bag with handles like the plastic ones. It's a nice touch you don't see too often in grocery stores. Oh, side note! The steak cuts here are legit! So far, I've only purchased the prepackaged rib eyes and they grilled up very nicely! We're talking juicy, thick cuts of steak with plenty of marbling. Naturally, they have a fresh meats and seafood counter as well. But....I didn't really feel like doing all that. At any rate, I believe this will be my go-to for picking up groceries for the most part. I still go to other stores to pick up brand-specific items as well. But as far as Hannaford is concerned, I'd grant them 4 thick, juicy fresh rib eye steaks ready for the grill out of 5.

But we recently made the transition from small water bottles (I know, I know) to the 5 gallon refillable jugs. So far as I know, this is one of the only Hannafords close to me that offers a *mostly* straightforward machine that dispenses water in minutes AND....accepts all forms of payment, to include NFC. The reason I say "mostly straightforward" is because if this is your very first time using the water dispensary, payment can be a bit confusing. I must've spent 10 minutes trying to understand how to get the thing to accept payment. As I understand it, you apparently have to scan your phone for NFC payments TWICE. Once to get the machine to ask you to make a selection (pointless), and again to...ya know...actually pay for the water. Could've just kept it basic to the latter, but...whatevs. Btw, the other thing I should mention is that this is totally worth the drive, considering you only pay around two and a half dollars for every 5 gallons as of the time I'm writing this review. Other than that, probably my least favorite thing about this Hannaford is the parking lot and the way its entrances and exits are arranged. Not only is it co-located with a McDonald's (haven't seen this before), but the parking entrance is almost half a block away from the store. In other words, if you had to make a left turn onto Derry road, you'd have to use the exit with the traffic lights for a protected left. Also, having a drive thru right next to your grocery store is pretty cumbersome, but...maybe that's just me. It's your typical Hannaford, only with a really neat and convenient water dispensary located just inside the front entrance to your immediate right. I think every grocery store should have one of these, but I ain't the mayor of Nashua. Hannaford gets 4 conveniently placed water dispensaries out of 5.

Trader Joe's is another one of those places I've driven by quite a few times, despite never having…read moreset foot inside of one. That is....until recently. It seems opinions on this place are quite strong on both extremes. As for mine? Well, it sort of reminds me of a more upscale version of Aldi's. Perhaps it's just this one location. But I honestly expected the inside of the store to be bigger. Not to say that it's a microcosm of sorts, mind you. Still, I couldn't help but notice the interior arrangement was similar to Aldi's. And in keeping of such themes, I came here for one ingredient specifically: ground beef. Let me tell you though...just from sampling this one item, I could tell you legions about TJ's quality control. I kid you not when I say this is quite possibly the finest quality of ground beef I have ever sculpted into a burger. They also have pre-formed patties which are 1/3 pounders each. However, I like the freedom of being able to craft my own patty to the size and weight of my choosing (typically 8oz with a 5.5 inch diameter). Hey, I know what I like. Anyway, what really grabbed my attention with this product was how incredibly malleable the meat was. If you go to, say....Walmart and get the classic 80/20 beef, it's a bit more fragmented when it comes to sculpting it into a standard patty. Probably the reason most people just get the pre-formed ones instead. TJ's beef, on the other hand, is so refined it even translates in flavor. As I went to season these like I do before placing them on the grill, the end product was (in my very humble opinion) possibly one of the tastiest renditions of a burger I ever crafted! Best of all, I don't feel the product was all that expensive when compared to its competitors. You'll hear some folks complain about the prices. But honestly, I have a feeling they would do that regardless of where they shop because grocery prices are going up EVERYWHERE! It's a moot point anyway. You go to which ever store fits your requirements at the time and (hopefully) choose your items carefully and wisely. That is all to say....I think I'll be going to TJ's as my personal gold standard for ground beef; future steak endeavors to follow shortly hereafter. Wanna know what I find most vexing about this location though? The parking lot. I dunno what exactly it is. But the formation of islands in this parking lot have me feeling cramped and anxious all at once. I totally dodged 4 cars pulling in before I could park. Granted, one of those cars was some idiot driving through parking spaces to, I presume, exit the lot but....you get the idea. Just be mindful navigating this lot and for f*#! sake, people - pay attention to ALL the stop signs! Make no mistake, I'll be returning here in the near future. Just not during the busy hours, if I can help it. They're most likely going to be a place where I hand pick specific items only, much like Whole Foods.
