We decided to give this place a try knowing it was still their first week and there might be kinks needing to be ironed out. The place was pretty dead for a Thursday night being so close to a grand opening. We sat at the bar as we normally do, the staff was friendly and helpful, but very new. I was shocked at the price of drinks, a bottle of domestic Miller Lite, Bud etc for $6 was a bit much for my taste even though I wasn't drinking. There we no NA beers or flavored drinks as an alternative either. My wife had a $10 martini that she enjoyed but again was over priced. Our appetizer order was messed up and when we finally got our seared tuna tataki, it was cubes of tuna and not seared at all. The rock and roll and Louisiana roll were both great, but not good enough to get us to frequent this place. Other menu items also seemed over priced. read more

Have been probably 6 or so times. Gotten hibachi mainly and the last 2 or so times the quality of the "ny strip" has gone way down hill. They cut the meat into bite size pieces smaller than chipotle does. First few times I never questioned the quality or cut of the meat, but recently I question whether it's strip. The sauces are good but with inexperienced staff you have to ask multiple times. Other little things I've noticed is the menu says 5 or 7 pieces of shrimp but are consistently served fewer every time. All in all the food is pretty good, but place is not usually full and orders always are messed up. Would try again, but gonna give them a break for awhile. read more

One waiter who was also the fill-in bartender, didn't know the wine on the menu. We had the spicy edamame, which I'll admit was different and tasty, the potstickers were good, but I'm not certain that they were fresh made...I ordered a sashimi bowl and the fish was sliced super thick and were large pieces, no really cold either. Can't believe the management. I've worked in the food industry for over 10 years and this place has by far been the worst I've seen. My server was excellent but the food wasn't as expected. After I let the server know about the food I asked if there was something we could do about it. She spoke with her manager and she refused to refund us or give us another option. I then asked to speak to the manager and my server came back saying that she's too busy to talk. I told the server I'm not paying until I speak to the manager because this is unacceptable. I walked out without paying and don't have any intentions of going back. read more

Kimberly looked me up and I got a phone call an hour or two later asking me if I was missing my OTL roll. She said next time we're back she'd give me two just to make up for it. Wow! This is our second visit to this new place downtown Roanoke. We really enjoyed visit 1, but this time, not so much. We live very close to Oak Street, so we were super excited to have this place here. We placed our order, and the appetizer came at the same time as the meal (it was edamame,so :/). My husband and I were done eating before my daughter's meal even showed up. Don't expect any substitution on anything, we asked and got frowned on, literally. I ordered the Highway 377 roll and it was very different from the first time. It had Frosted Flakes on top, which is fine but that's not on the menu. The roll was just okay (first time it was great). We also got fried rice and it was very dry, lacking flavor. Very different from the first time. I asked if they got a new chef and apparently they have. No offer to take the food off the bill or to discount. All in all, for the price, I'll keep driving to Southlake for the sushi craving. read more

On my first review, I defended Fosters & the service given that they were a new restaurant. Tonight, we had one of the worst experiences we've ever had at a restaurant. All my daughter wanted for her 7th birthday dinner was sushi. After almost 2 hours, she finally got her "Salmon", but we ordered "Smoked Salmon". When confronting the manager about the poor service, he tried to paint the picture that it was our fault. Needless to say, I am no longer a supporter of this restaurant and if they don't figure out their service issues, they won't last long. I will never set foot in this restaurant again. read more

We ordered 6 different sushi rolls, sushi, and sashimi. Our kids ordered fried rice and bulgogi. The sushi was just ok at best but our kids food was so bad. Rice was old, bulgogi did not have any sesame oil, and generally was bland. Will not eat here again. read more

Not quite sure where to start. . . This restaurant has an identity problem between the menu variety and the music versus atmosphere. The menu had everything from a cheeseburger to sushi rolls. We tried the Bulgogi burger and a few rolls - California and rainbow. The rolls were good and the flavor of the Bulgogi was nice but the burger concept didn't work for me. We had a couple beers and started with a salmon stack and ended up with a $99 lunch plus tip. The highlight of the experience was our server who was friendly and attentive. Long story short, we will go to Craft and Vine or Jack & Grill next time. read more

We read all these great reviews about the food and the service at Foster's. We made a reservation for Friday night for our date night. We arrived about 5 minutes early, were seated immediately kand that is where the good part ends. We sat for over 20 minutes, had 3 different waiters walk by and no one would make eye contact. They were obviously flustered, but the restaurant wasn't that busy. We thought about going to the sushi bar, but it hadn't been cleared from prior guests. We finally walked out while the host mumbled sorry, but made no effort to try to resolve the issue. The descriptions of the rolls were really enticing. I've read reviews mentioning the slow service and that the food was slow to come out but we did not experience that at all. If there were problems in the past I believe that it is in the past!! I am from Seattle, where you find the best sushi outside of Japan. And I. Loooove. sushi. We have searched high and low for good fresh sushi in Texas for the last four years, and this is the best Sushi we've had since moving here! After hearing mixed reviews about Foster's, we were hesitant to try them out...BUT, we're so happy we did! We were warmly greeted and dining with regulars, so treated to complimentary little treats like cucumbers w vinegar, crispy fried potato strings and spicy pickled jalapeños. Sushi was fresh, portions were HUGE and presentation was very nice! Other dishes ordered were also very well received. Our server was sweet as could be and very attentive. The owner came to check on us, regularly. Even the bartender let us keep a glass of wine, on the house, after it was mistakenly poured (believe it or not, not all establishments do this!). We'll definitely be visiting, again! Especially to take advantage of the amazing lunch and happy hour specials! Service was very poor. We tried Foster's because we like to support local businesses but will not be returning. There was confusion on who our server was. When asked about recommendations the sever responded with " I just look at the menu and see what the ingredients are". Ordered the scallops. They came out over cooked and portion was tiny for the price. California roll and Philadelphia roll were moderate but nothing special. I ordered the Hibachi Steak and was told three times it would be out soon. Then 25 minutes after having placed the order the server then came out and asked hi I would like it cooked. Even after being told three times it was being prepared it had not even been started. The steak was cold and over smothered in sauce. The asparagus was over cooked and the grilled zucchini were oily. For a bill of almost $60 this experience was not worth it. read more

I cant believe this place is rate less than 4 stars! From reading through the prior reviews, it seems like they have made some changes...I found the place to be very good quality sushi which is kinda hard to find in these parts. Go for the Chef Surprise for $25...I think it is probably the best value item even though it looks like the most expensive roll. I got nigiri, sashimi and a roll! It was tasty. Go check this place out becuase I would hate for our area to lose it. read more

Well, I read and consider reviews when selecting a new place to try and the prior reviews were somewhat dicey.... let me say this: This place is fantastic. Casual. Comfortable. Sports on the TV combined with good and 'not-overpowering sound'. An outstanding, sweet, cheerful, and attentive server. The food is ON POINT and by 'on point' I mean I'm blown away. I've been to places that cost 4x as much and gotten questionable and *fishy* tasting "sushi" combined with reheated frozen food that is on the level with Wal-mart's private label. Not only am I completely happy with this place as a whole I absolutely plan to spend more casual/family/and night-outs with the spouse here. A+++ Foster's! read more

I was SO disappointed with the service and food availability! They were out of several things we asked for. There were two tables outside and we were the only people inside yet our waiter was still too "busy" with the other two tables to fill our drinks or take our order. After we finally ordered we waited for our sushi for a while. During that time the sushi chefs were focused on watching the tv and changing the channels (for whom?). Food was absolutely delicious! We got the calamari as a starter and it was crispy and very tender. Everything was well seasoned and cooked to perfection. For my entree I got the steak and chicken hibachi and it was ammazzinggg!!! The steak was very tender and the chicken was also very tasty. I received my entree and appetizer in only about 15 minutes! I have eaten here 3 times. The first time was pretty good. The 2nd time we got an inexperienced waitress and she didn't know the menu. We couldn't remember the name of one of the rolls we had the first time and she had no clue. She was also surprised when we filled out the sushi order form. The third time killed it. I ordered hot sake and some rolls. I had the same waitress as visit 2 and she was improved. As I poured the last shot of sake a fly came out of the bottle and into my shot glass. I pointed it out to the waitress and her response was well it wasn't there when I brought it to your table. I tried to like this place because the sushi is good but the service is horrible. Great food...have eaten there several times and every time is good...sometimes service is a little slow but food is worth the wait.

Excellent place. My youngest has gluten and soy allergies so I talked with the sushi chefs. They listened carefully, asked questions, and made rolls just for her. Best part is she did not complain of her stomach hurting afterward. Which happens so often when you have food allergies. Our server was super sweet and attentive, taking multiple orders over the duration of our dinner. Last but not least the bar is spot on with the mixed drinks. The summer eclipse is very yummy and the margarita was perfect. We will definitely eat here when we are in town. read more

Food is really good. Service is horrible! I recommend taking the food to go. No need to waste your time on poor service and rude wait staff. Four of us walked in around 7:15pm on a Friday and only 2 tables were eating. This should have been a sign as Roanoke is usually busy most Friday nights. The waiter walked up to our table and just said the words "drinks, drinks, drinks" we each ordered water. Then the waiter comes by and says "appetizer... You want one" then literally walks off. Just says the words and walks off. So by this point we are looking around for cameras this has got to be a joke. Nope no film crew in sight.
