Had a back door in our room, which I had to make sure whas shut /lcoked. btu this was great because I was travelign with my dog, so potty breaks were super easy (especially in hte 5* 5* weather!) and it looked out to a lake. Nice hot breakfast and seating area. I'm not a huge breakfast person, but there was hot coffee & tea, milk juice, hot scambled eggs, bacon & biscuits and gracy, plus juice and some cold options. It was really nice as expected: historic house and gardens, well maintained. For quality and amenities it's more on the level of a nice B&B, with a generous cafe just a short walk away (but not in winter!). Staff were kind and upgraded our room when the small room we checked in somehow had a messed bed. Generous parking and much of the main sites are drivable. I'd love to come back in another season!

They might have some events that are cool, but grounds not taken care of at least get some goats. If you like easy snooze trails, this if your hike, nothing here is even a moderate level, all easy. We stayed in the Carl Vrooman suite; had 3 rooms. One was "standard", with a comfortable bed, the second was a sitting room with Carl's desk and a couch; then a separate bath with clawfoot tub. Everything was very "period". It was quiet, clean, and easy access to restaurants in Bloomington. We bounced a dinner idea off Brian and he heartily agreed - and it was great! Left at 9:00 the next morning, refreshed and happy.

When I stopped at the desk to advise that someone was smoking she advised that smoking is allowed here and that she believes they may be the last Hampton branded property that allows it- she mentioned complaints on the other floors as well because I had initially suggested we might prefer to move to a non-smoking floor. There apparently isn't one. It's too bad because the location of the property is good, too. She said the policy is "unclear" on pot- so if you're a smoker (herbal or otherwise) this may be a great option for you. If you're sensitive to smoke, I advise booking elsewhere. On the plus side - The pool and fitness facilities are clean and well maintained as is the lobby and our room- no complaints there - and staff is friendly and helpful.

All along the walls, and behind the mattress there was probably years of dust and who knows what else. There was black mold in the bathroom that was very visible to the eye and a health hazard at that. The shower head had so much black mold that it had started to penetrate it. I scrubbed off what I could before showering, but contemplated taking a sink bath to avoid touching any of it. The furniture, carpet, and everything is old and dated. And I have been in older hotels that are well maintained and clean. But this place is not even trying. I could not wait to check out. I unfortunately just sucked it up and stayed the night because I was in town for business the next morning and there are very few options to choose from in the area. The breakfast was probably the worst continental breakfast I have ever seen. Very few options, not even a banana. I would have preferred a granola bar to the offerings they had. Do better Hilton. This is no name roadside motel quality.

It needed to be soaked in some CLR or something as some of the nozzles were crusted over and made a few nozzles have such a force and painful. Also, no hairdryer so make sure you bring your own. The lady at the night shift was very nice. We talked knitting. It was cool to chat. Pros: almost Middle of town, near yoders kitchen. Nearly everything is walking distance in the area. Very quiet.
