I've taken a few dance classes around the city but nothing can compare to the experience I had at Forward Space, especially in Candace's class.

I decided to it would be fun to host my birthday there with a song of my choice - and what an unforgettable experience! I had the best time. I'm grateful to have had that experience and to be able to go back to more classes!

They have a schedule updated monthly, with separate sign-up options for both member and non-members. As a non member, I paid for the drop-in class, which was $25. The class runs for an hour with around 10+ students, where an instructor first starts up with a quick warm-up and then jumps into teaching you a choreo to the song. The choreo is broken into several routines, so you learn them slowly in detail, and then piece them all together with the song incrementally. Dancing is as challenging for your brain as it is for your body, as you need to really exercise your memory and mind body coordination! The whole class went by super fast. Everyone who went seemed to be regulars and quite experienced, but you'd be too busy trying to master the dance to care. At the end, we are placed into two groups, where we are given a chance to perform and record ourselves. DivaDance emphasizes community as they have a whole FB group where you can see past dance classes and meet new members as well! I met some cool friendly people my first time and I'd totally attend more classes in the future!

They also provide bathrooms for changing and cubbies in the studio to store your belongings.

This time, I took class with Amber, and she is truly a 10 out of 10 -- from her character to her teaching style, choreography, and ability to educate dancers in real time. She doesn't just teach steps; she teaches movement vocabulary and helps you understand how to inhabit the choreography as it unfolds. That presence and clarity make the experience special. A lot of what I enjoy about Sass Class comes down to both the choreographers and the energy of the space. That said, there are some practical considerations. There is no elevator, which can be challenging because of the number of stairs you have to go up and down. The studio itself is small but functional. There's a small waiting area, a check-in desk, two bathrooms, and a spot to quickly change if needed. There are two studios, which allows classes to run smoothly without feeling crowded. The location is central, not far from Moynihan Train Hall or Port Authority, and there are plenty of food options nearby for before or after class. Overall, SASS Class continues to be a space I value. I fully intend to take more classes there in the future. For me, it's about the quality of instruction, the intentionality of the movement, and the community -- and that keeps drawing me back.

Learning from a retired company member was such a great honor. The adult open modern class is every Thursday night and is $20/class. The class size in this studio school is very small and offers quite a different experience from most other much more crowded dance classes in Manhattan. Expect to be called on by your first name and receive a lot of personal attention and constructive criticism. Also unlike other dance classes, you will have a warm-up and learn a string of short pieces (instead of one long piece of choreography) with each short piece incorporating and concentrating on at least one Paul Taylor signature move. Being able to learn these characteristic moves that I had just watched the company perform on stage was both interesting and rewarding. It seems like these pieces are taught and redone week after week rather than being expanded on which may be preferable for some. The class is also taught with live music, which always makes the dance process much more stimulating. While the room is large and contains many windows, the downside is the lack of mirrors. This may be a personal preference, but I like to be able to watch the instructor, other dancers, and my own body in the mirror to be able to compare and self-correct. Learning the choreography not by watching the instructor's reflection in the mirror, but by copying her mirror image while she faced us, was something that took some time to get used to. Likelihood of another visit: I may go back!

Our instructor (Slice) was very accommodating and went at a pace that was comfortable for the whole class. The building was large with multiple floors and studios. I came here recently to take a Burlesque Jazz dance class taught by Tony Guerrero. My friend brought me here with her, I probably never would think to come here if it weren't for her. My friend had been coming to this studio for years. I'll get the bad out of the way first. I am a bit of a germaphobe so having to touch the same floor that probably thousands of other feet have sweated on during the floor parts of the warm up routine, I was like NOoooOOOooOOOooOO inside anyway lol I still did it. I know it won't kill me but still I was like ew lol The pricing is pretty reasonable, it was $29 for an hour and a half long class. There's a hefty warm up routine that Tony leads you through before getting into the actual choreography. It's been two days since I took that class, and somehow I'm more sore today than yesterday LOL it had been a while since I last exercised to be fair. But this is a good thing though, you're basically getting a work out class and a dance class all in one! It's easy to why Tony does this for a living, he seems to really enjoy what he does. He was so energetic and was making funny jokes the whole time. I would definitely consider myself a beginner beginner, so I was slow to pick up the choreography but it really didn't matter, you just have to be close enough, you don't have to do everything perfectly! It was a lot of fun, I would totally go again with my friend if she invited me again. Also a tip, my friend told me that people don't usually wear sneakers to these things so she told me to either wear heeled dancing shoes or just dance in my socks, so I opted for the latter. I don't think this is really true because I saw other people in the class wear their sneakers so I wish I kept my shoes on haha but it's fine, it fun nonetheless! I would recommend a dance class here with your friends for a fun time. Also this way you have someone to take a video of you doing the choreo later instead of having to ask a stranger

You cannot pay me to get on the treadmill, so if I'm going to do cardio this is the way I'm gonna accomplish the task. In case you're nervous about this being a room full of professional dancers, it isn't and you're gonna be fine. Everybody's just there to have a good time and flail around the music to the best of their abilities. It's much more about moving and pumping some cardio into your day so no need to feel insecure about your dancing abilities - you're gonna fit in and have a great time! There's also a DJ for every class which is a delightful touch that adds to the party atmosphere. The AMENITIES! WOAH! If you need to take a shower and get ready here, there are two showers in the women's locker room and they're full of Malin + Goetz products. They also have great hair products and a Dyson you can use with a diffuser if needed! The bathroom isn't huge so I could see it getting a little congested and stressful getting ready in the bathroom but wouldn't be a problem if you go during off hours. Overall, this might be my favorite fitness class I've taken in New York City and I will definitely be coming back regularly.

As soon as I stepped in, the staff by the counter greets us and are super helpful and friendly. Keep in mind they look for vaccine verification. There's lockers and showers available. The locker area was really dark, with a water fountain station. And once you open a door, there's the studio! My instructor was so energetic! I thought they would be calm from the reviews, but no no! Not only were they so motivating and fun, but the DJ by the corner mixed trendy songs to match their vibes. We pretty much do dance cardio moves to different pop music the whole class, with a yoga mat ab workout in between. I loved how the lights danced along to the music change. The instructor really embraces feeling confident and loving your body throughout the whole class, that you just finish your class feeling good about yourself. I'm so happy exercising and fun can exist in the same sentence, thanks to 305 Fitness. I would totally come back whenever I want to party but also sweat it out.
