I'm always a fan of Chinese takeaway, and, having used to have lived in this neck of the woods, I did once give Fortune House a try. Sadly, it didn't really live up to expectations: the food was MSG-heavy and not particularly good, although I seem to have been lucky, judging by some of the reviews below. I certainly haven't experienced anything that badly sanitised, but it wouldn't surprise me greatly. The food here was truly nothing special.
It's not as if Fortune House are doing anything particularly wrong: the prices and menu all scream of cheap, not-particularly-well-made take-away: if you're expecting anything more than that, then ordering take-away probably isn't for you in the first place. The stuff I had was basically perfectly acceptable, if not the best Chinese food I've ever had. I guess what I'm trying to say is: even the best take-away couldn't be more than 3 stars in my book, and this one seemed perfectly acceptable.
In the end, there's nothing particularly to write home about when it comes to Fortune House. It's your bog-standard take-away; I didn't have a particularly bad experience, but if you're a frequent orderer of takeaway, you'll know the risks! read more
