I am a 31 year old preschool teacher who has always loved athletic, competitive activities. Exercising has been a crucial element to managing daily stress in a positive way. After a lower back injury, the past 4 years have consisted of me continually wrestling with the question; healthy mind or healthy body? After refusing back surgery at age 29 and prior to starting my therapy at Fortius, I felt that having "manageable pain" was something I must learn to accept if I wanted to live an active life or be a good teacher. Picking up a crying child or bending down to help tie a shoe would result in sleepless nights, countless Advil, and so many ice packs that we could barely fit food in the freezer. Having been to two other physical therapy practices, I was skeptical of any results, to say the least. However, on my first day at Fortius I was warmly "high-fived" and given individualized attention upon my arrival. Jim and I discussed my injury and goals at length. After 3 weeks at Fortius, I have NOT been given generic exercises and pushed out the door. I like to tell people that I go to my "Personal Trainer Therapist" because I feel like I am being challenged while having someone with the educational background to correct my form and create an exercise plan to strengthen ME, specifically. Not only do I look forward to "therapy training" with an awesome, supportive, fun-loving group of people but I am... wait for it... closer to PAIN FREE than ever before. Where do I even begin?! After being hit by an NYC cab, I was recommended to Fortius to try and PT my knee situation. From the minute I walked in the door, throughout a year of PT, knee surgery and recovery, Fortius became my second home - and a great one at that! My case was a little difficult and needed some extra attention, and Fortius provided that. I worked with Evan twice a week for almost a year to help get me back on my feet - literally - and work on living as pain free a life as possible. He never gave up on me and, unlike most doctors, he always made the time. It doesn't matter how busy the office gets, Fortius treats each patient individually, greets them with a friendly smile and helps you to discover your full physical potential - a little laughter goes a long way too! From the front desk staff to the doctors and even the patients, Fortius maintains a wonderful environment for not only physical healing, but also the mental and emotional healing that can be needed when undergoing physical therapy. Everyone supports one another and cares about each others progress. I went to Fortius on a friend's recommendation when I tore a muscle in my shoulder. My entire experience with Evan and the rest of the Fortius team exceeded my expectations. I healed there, I grew stronger there, and the office has such an amazing energy that I looked forward to my appointments. The staff is friendly and knowledgeable. When I arrived for my first visit, Evan and his intern were meticulous in their examination of my injury and listened (really, really listened!) to what I had to say about my injury and how I move through my days. This visit resulted in a very fluid program that set me on the path to healing and regaining the use of my arm. Every time I walked through the door for an appointment they knew my name, like I walked into Cheers for the hundredth time. Any time I had questions about my progress or things that triggered flare-ups of pain, I was able to get answers. When I felt frustrated at the pace of my healing, I received encouragement. When I "leveled up" it was met with high fives all around. The office is cozy and often busy, but there was never a time when I arrived that I felt rushed or slighted on time for my treatment. The visits were never stressful. I often worked on the floor along side other patients, and more often than not they became friendly acquaintances. After putting off physical therapy literally for years for an ancient pilates/yoga/running injury I finally decided that I could no longer live with the constant throbbing in my hip. My Orthopedist referred me to Fortius Physical Therapy and I am SO glad he did! Dr. Jim Trakis immediately put me on the path to recovery. Within the first appointment I was already given an individualized and targeted game plan to get me back to 100%, complete with detailed home exercises to speed my healing. Jim was very approachable, listened to my concerns and answered all of my questions. He asked me what my post treatment goals were and genuinely cared about getting me back to where I wanted to be. At every session, the exercises and stretches were designed to push and challenge me. After several appointments and tremendous improvement I have no idea why I put off going for so long. A rehab doctor at Cornell referred me to Fortius following persistent lower back/si joint-related pain. I could not have been more pleased with the care I received there, which included sessions with both Evan and Jim. While the pain was precipitated by trying to lift my grandfather several months before, Evan diagnosed and set up a treatment plan for the underlying lack of lower back flexibility, proper core strength and misalignment in my hips that were likely at the root of things. Throughout the twelve sessions I was there, the Fortius team always answered my (often redundant) questions with detail and patience, paid close attention not only during stretches and massage therapy but also while I was doing exercises (coming over to correct form) and never made me feel rushed. Evan, Jim, their interns and the entire office staff could not have been more friendly and the small size of the office only assists in their ability to move seamlessly from patient to patient. Fortius Physical Therapy is the absolute BEST! Jim, Evan and the entire team will give you hands on, personal attention that you rarely find in a physical therapy office, especially in NYC! The Fortius team helped me through a foot injury that came up during my half marathon training. Not only did they help me recover from the injury but once I was healed, they showed me what to do to stay injury-free on my own. Because of them, I was able to run my first half and full marathon pain-free! Not only can you count on getting through whatever aches and pains you have at Fortius, but you'll look forward to going! Everyone in the office is so nice and they all truly care about the patients. The atmosphere is always energetic and fun and there's always some good music playing while you do your exercises. I had visited with a few physical therapists before coming to Fortius and never knew how great PT could be. Fortius PT was recommended to me from a family member. At first I was hesitant, because of how severe my injury and surgery was(cervical bone fusion from C2-C5, due from a car accident). At the time I was in a neck brace and was in a lot of pain. Jim listened, evaluated, and came up with a game plan that would make me stronger than I was before the accident. Every week my routine would be tweaked to further the strengthening of my body. Jim and his team were there to motivate and coach me all the way to a full recovery. Fortius PT is a place that coaches and teaches you ways to help heal and strengthen your body. Fortius was recommended by a few friends that have the same insurance that I have (Cigna PPO). I needed a program to recover from a pretty badly twisted ankle and some tips to alleviate pain in my knees. Jim Trakis very rapidly provided me with a program to improve both my ankle and knee, provided an "at home" exercise routine to make the recovery faster and provided invaluable advices to help me out on the longer term. Jim is extremely professional, knowledgeable and listen to what the patient has to say. Contrary to some other practices, the treatments he recommend are solely dedicated to improve / solve your issues. Jim, Lauren and the rest of the Fortius staff make you feel good, are extremely welcoming and help at every corner of the recovery. Though it's been two years since I was treated at Fortius, I'm still grateful for the experience I had there, and so I'm writing a belated review. My podiatrist sent me to Fortius to treat my plantar fasciitis, saying, "You'll love these guys!" and she was right. On my first visit, Jim Trakis and his team conducted a long, thoughtful, thorough intake, then started me on a twice-weekly regimen. I was also in cancer treatment at the time, and Jim was always mindful to adjust my regimen to accommodate my roller-coaster fatigue. I don't know that every PT would have had the patience or integrity to go that extra distance, but I was grateful for the care I got and was soon walking pain-free. I also remember that going to Fortius was always fun, what with the friendly staff, great music, and happy vibe. Thanks, you guys! read more

DON'T BE FOOLED. If you look at the other reviews you will see they all praise the friendly atmosphere and how welcoming Fortius PT is. They are not wrong; on the surface they are very supportive and chatty. The problem is when it comes to documentation and treatment plans their skill is questionable. Turns out in my case I was kept on a plan that was designed for billing sessions and not a solid treatment plan for my recovery. Worse, what was being told to me by Fortius PT and what was being told about me to my doctor and insurance company were two different things. If your looking to socialize in an inviting atmosphere Fortius PT is your place, but if you're looking for a skilled physical therapist, I suggest you look elsewhere. read more

Total pros, and very friendly people as well. I went in with a crippling muscle spasm and a locked-up upper back. Over a few weeks, Jim Trakis and Evan were able to eliminate the pain and give me more mobility in my back than I've had in years. I'm a software developer who sits for many hours a day and this has made a great difference for me. I appreciated that Jim and his crew attacked not just the immediate problem of the muscle spasm, but the surrounding areas involved in the underlying problem. Incredibly knowledgeable people. I had a wonderful experience with Jim and his team-after having surgery on knee to repair my ACL and meniscus, it was a long road to hoe in terms of therapy, but their approach is hands on, consistent, and extremely knowledgeable. They pushed me just the right amount, and Jim and I worked together to get my knee and my leg back to better than fighting shape! Within just a year from my surgery, I completed my first Ironman! I still do a lot of the exercises Jim recommended almost every day. Whatever your goals are, Fortius can give you the therapy and strengthening you need to help you achieve them. read more

Dr. Jim Trackis and the staff at Fortius are just wonderful. They add a very personal touch to your PT experience and get the job done. They are all very knowledgeable and have a wonderful sunny attitude that makes the PT experience less painful. I cannot recommend Jim and his team enough. After ankle surgery they helped me get back to running, and I just completed a marathon this fall. When I first came in on crutches, I would not have thought that I could make it back to that level of performance. After seeing a chiropractor for lower back issues and getting no closer to being painless i found Dr Trakis. In just a couple of sessions and with take home exercises and stretches i am pain free.
