It's just one stop away on the red line from Harvard, so it's a convenient option for students. It's $15 for the samba class, but they'll take cash and credit card. There's a Santander right across the street if you need an ATM, since some of the classes are cash only. Note for Bank of America cardholders, there is a $3 ATM fee. There is a gender neutral bathroom available The 1:30-3pm Samba class was super fun. It was my first time doing Samba, but the teacher was super energetic and there are plenty of other beginners so you don't have to feel awkward. You can put your stuff on the right hand side along the wall, and there's plenty of mirror space so you can watch yourself shake it. There were people of all ages and it was good vibes all around. It started with a warm up and then payment, and then the actual Samba class. There was even a live band that played while we danced. At the end, there was a dance circle and everyone left sweaty but happy. The dance center overall is a cool spot and you can try out a number of different dance styles and classes no matter what age you are. I noticed on the bulletin board they have kid classes as well.

It can be uncomfortable just to be standing in that kind of weather, let alone doing cardio for an hour plus. Honestly, this seems irresponsible to me, and I'm confused by the fact that they don't seem to be concerned about heat stroke. There are definitely days when the only reason I don't go to class is because there's no AC. I also wish they had contemporary classes (they have one "contemporary modern" once a week, which is not the same as contemporary).

She's kind patient friendly and extremely talented. She cares a great deal about her customers. She's energetic and has great ideas and is a terrific communicator. A fantastic teacher who understands her students needs and potential. Thank you very very much Kendall for adding to our wedding. We started our lessons at a different studio but it didn't seem to work well and then we found DB studios and I am so glad we did!

While browsing Groupon I noticed a deal for dance lessons at db studios, which was very conveniently located for us. Of course I browsed reviews ahead of time to make sure we weren't walking into a trap, and noticed that they had several glowing reviews on here. Congratulations to db studios too for celebrating their 1 year anniversary! The owner and instructor, Kendall responded immediately to our initial e-mail inquiry and we set up a FREE consultation dance lesson with her. I may have inadvertently made her update the website since it now says the Groupon/Yelp deals can't be combined. Oops! Kendall welcomed us to db studios, which is located within the Newton Congregational Church. The private lessons are rehearsed on the upper stage, which mimics the size of most venue dance floors. For the consultation she listened to our song to determine what type of ballroom dance style would fit best and we decided on the fox trot. We had the option of another style, but it did not allow for us to move around the stage as much. During the first lesson we learned the basic step as well as the box step. (I know, we are starting from the ground up here.) She worked with each of us individually by having us follow her side by side along with dancing with us directly. For each class she took notes to give us specific points of improvement to work on outside of class. We highly appreciated Kendall's flexible hours as I often work quite late. So we've had lessons starting at 8 PM. It's great that for Monday - Wednesday she is available until 10 PM! In addition, Kendall worked with our limited budget and we accomplished all that we hoped within the 3 official dance lessons. If the Groupon or Yelp offer is still available, I would definitely recommend taking advantage of the limited time offer. Regular priced private lessons are $85 for 45 minutes. I imagine that since this is a relatively new business she is just building up positive buzz and clientele base. Otherwise there are other comparable dance studios you can contact (most of them don't post the rates) to find out if their dance studios packages are more suitable. For more details about the actual lessons, what song we chose, photos from the wedding, and interactions with the owner check out my blog. https://ratedbyhanna.com/dance-lessons-db-studios/

My back is a bit sore today, and I earned 5 Weight Watchers Activity Points for the 1 hour class - which for me is equivalent to walking 10 miles! No dance experience is needed to have fun & get a great work out from the class. (Trust me, I'm NOT a dancer.) The class I attended was a free promotion, but the normal rate is a reasonable $12 per class.

Whatever you want to call it, I love BollyX and haven't stopped going to class. When I can, I try to go two to three nights a week. Now that I'm officially a BollyX trainee, I wanted to give more positive feedback. First off, classes are offered at The Dance Complex in Central Square, and are taught there by a few instructors, Fen, Dom, Nellie, and Liza (8:30pm Mon and Thurs nights). Classes are also taught by Anita Patel at iDance in Burlington. Dom also teaches at VIM Fitness, across the street from Dance Complex on Wed nights at 6:30pm. Classes are phenomenally invigorating. You get your heart pumping, your body moving like it's never moved before (in my case), and you have a blast dancing the night away to some awesome Bollywood tunes. I bought a 3 class pack (as mentioned in my previous review), and since then I haven't thought twice about going to class as much as possible (visit BollyX.com for new client specials!!). Then I sprained my knee and was out of commission...but I came back to BollyX ASAP, and got back on track. Each class is never the same. We start with warm up songs, then jump right in to the workout. My favorite part is still the performance segment of class. We learn a song twice, and then it's performed by the class split up into teams. We cheer each other on, and then we rock our BollyX poses too. Awesome sauce :) I love it. BollyX brings out the inner dancer in me...and works out muscles that I probably never knew I even had. The music just gets you going too...I found myself googling the lyrics to songs so I can practice on my own...haha. All BollyX instructors are amazing. They are supportive, positive, and they care about you. They want you to come to class and enjoy yourself and give it your all. And I appreciate that :) A special thanks to Yelp for getting me addicted to BollyX. Without that free class, I wouldn't have gotten this far, so thank you, Yelp. Thanks a lot :)

I started as a member of this amazingly supportive and motivating dance studio for Zumba classes…read more Little could I have imagined that just weeks later I would be embarking upon a life changing journey into dance. Having no experience with ballroom (or dancing in general really) I found myself in an unfamiliar world with lots of learning to do. The special perk was never feeling as if I was anything but meant to be a part of it all. That has nothing to do with my ability and everything to do with the unbelievable professionals of Avalon. Jess is an amazing instructor. She has a wonderful "straight to the point" attitude with an incredible ability to make the most challenging steps and moves easy to understand. Her commitment to your learning is present at every moment. And her true love of dance is literally contagious. I went from Zumba with Angela and Karen, to adding Ladies Formation class and performance with a wonderful group of women, as well as private lessons with Jess, and am now beginning to welcome the idea of taking some private lessons with Peter to become skilled at partnering/ ballroom. (Peter- have patience my courage my take some time) I can not say enough about just how much this studio has contributed to building confidence and joy into my life. Although I am challenged to learn and grow as a newibie, I feel am more able to express myself physically through movement and have truly fallen in love with dance. This is because of the wonderful environment and the amazing support and welcoming energy of Jess and Peter as well as the dedicated dancers I have met there. In less than a year I have quickly gone from trying out a Zumba class on a whim to a dedicated "lifer." So amazing. I look forward to every class and my future as part of this special studio and team of pros. Thank you, from the bottom of my heart, Randi
