One of the best chocolatiers around. Winner of numerous awards. Mount Vernon is hugely fortunate to have Forte Chocolates make its home here (and I am lucky it's a decent length drive from my house, else I'd gain 10 pounds a week ). Some of the bars are even made bean-to-bar by Forte. Others (and the various bonbons) use high-end couverture chocolate from some of the world's best. Yes, the chocolates here cost more. Get a grip. This is ethically sourced, top-shelf chocolate. It is going to cost more. If you want Russell Stover® chocolates at Russell Stover® prices and all the ethical slave and child labor issues that go along with that kind of chocolate, then don't even bother entering this store. But you are the one who is missing out. The flavor combos are incredible (and award-winning) and solidly executed. You may not like every flavor combo, but that's doesn't mean it's not a good flavor. It only means YOU don't like that particular flavor. Don't diss the chocolatier for your tastes. Besides the chocolates, the caramels are divine. If you're near Mount Vernon (even if you're passing through on I-5 or here for a festival), you owe it to yourself to stop in and load up. Oh, and who am I to make these claims? Just a certified international chocolate awards judge and cacao and chocolate taster and educator. Yeah, I'm the real thing. So is Forte. Don't miss this place!

While the chocolate is amazingly good (and I'm not a chocolate person). It can be hit or miss, and when coupled with the prices, that bland taste is even worse. The raspberry fig is SO good! The passion fruit is just meh. Sea salt caramel very goid The apple cider chocolate, I couldn't taste apple cider

Some Easter selections and a chocolate tulip arrangement with a chocolate vase.

So far it's hit or miss. It's an artistic experience or eating old toasted almonds on a less than fresh piece of $20 toffee. The Deets... I bought $100+ worth of goods and my $20 bag of almond butter toffee tastes old and stale, especially the nuts (think the smell of paint--don't care to eat something that tastes like it, especially after paying so much for it. I didn't taste the chocolate much for it being dark. I wish I had a sample of this one before purchasing. The woman that helped us was informative and the pieces, namely the truffles, were very beautiful. It was quite unique to taste the bars after our Salt & Straw collab experiences. The samples were great. My honey loved his lemon pepper white chocolate truffle, and the small bite I had was exquisite. Like eating a work of art. I tasted the pistachio and it wasn't so great. I'm looking forward to seeing what my Baking Bloc does for me, and I'll update when we break open the vanilla hot chocolate.

Ok. This place is kind of amazing. I can see why the head chocolatier is ranked 10 in the world. I can actually say that I hate white chocolate. It's normally crazy sweet and I can't stand it. Forte has 2 white chocolate bars that I could eat all day. One is the Rosemary & Sea Salt White Chocolate Bar. So good. I LOVED it. Her other is her White Chocolate Espresso Bar. This tasted like a latte. So amazing. Forte had works of art made of chocolate, crazy flavor combination bars, caramels and truffles. This is a place to check out while in Mt. Vernon.

Just as we were about to leave, Jacob, who was finishing up for the night, noticed us outside. Instead of turning us away, he graciously turned the lights back on, opened the door, and welcomed us in! While we selected our chocolates, another couple also stopped in and made a purchase. Jacob's kindness and willingness to go the extra mile, even at the end of his shift, was truly outstanding. This level of customer service deserves to be recognized--thank you, Jacob!

Our server was Rainey, she was awesome, very attentive, and came to our table right away to take our order. The atmosphere at Temperate Habits is very nice, there is outside seating but we sat inside due to the bright evening sun. Our meals took quite a while to arrive, I think we were at the tail end of the dinner rush and my guess is they have a small kitchen. My classic cheeseburger was about the most generic, predictable, and utterly boring burger I could imagine, and for $17 I would certainly not return for that or the mundane shoestring fries. The burger patty, bun, and fries were all non creative and the there was nothing even the slightest bit unique about my burger, in fact I swear it is the exact same burger that the Skagit River Brewery serves just around the corner. The surprise entree was the Crab and Lobster Tots, now whoever thought that would be good? The plate looked very strange to say the least but I have to say.... this dish was really good! So you'd think if they could create that total mayhem of a dish that they could get far more creative with the burgers and least have a house burger sauce or a higher quality bun for $17, something? I might return to Temperate Habits to have a drink with friends and share some tots, because they give you a large enough portion for four people, but I would certainly look elsewhere for a good burger. 5 stars for atmosphere and service, 1 star for the burger, 4 stars for the tots.

The patio faces one of the main streets so there was lots of good people watching. I ordered a beer flight and was very satisfied with all four of my selections: Prickly Pear Kolsch - it was creamy and easy to drink, bursting with prickly pear flavor; just the right amount of tart and sweet. Lightly Buzzed Honey Lavender Blonde - my favorite of the flight; it was very hoppy but light and refreshing and well balanced by intense lavender flavor and a smooth honey finish. Get it! You won't regret it. High Five Hefe - lighter/less hazy and more hoppy than most hefes it made for a unique and complimentary beer on my flight. Pommeroys Citra Pale Ale - a perfect West Coast IPA. To eat, my pup got the Lucky Dog hamburger (which the chef pre-cut) and loved it! He chowed down in less than a minute. And I got the Mac & Cheese Burger (sub a veggie patty) with the Garlic Fries. It was a very indulgent meal to say the least. The burger was loaded with so much Mac & Cheese that I couldn't even put the top bun on it and pick it up. lol I had to knife and fork the whole thing which was totally worth it. The Mac is a classic home style recipe (think Stouffers but better). Their fries are shoestring and super crispy and salty. And they loaded those up with an amazing garlic aioli and Parmesan. I got a side of their house-made curry aioli and was obsessed with it. Every fry that didn't have sauce or parm got a dip in that deliciousness and I added it to quite a few of the burger bites too. All in all, a great brewpub that I look forward to returning to in the future!

The name of this…read moreplace excited him so much that he decided to surprise me by not telling me where we were going. He could not be more hype about an average diner called 'Big Scoop'. The area has some parking spots, but when we arrived, all the parking spaces and all the tables were taken. They were quite busy for a Wednesday evening. When we arrived, we had no idea what to do. Do we sit ourselves? Do we wait to be seated? Do we place an order at the counter and then sit? There was no signage and no greeting to inform us. So we stood there, feeling silly and out of place, for a good few minutes, before one adult staff member approached the counter to punch an order into a computer and literally said to us, 'I don't have time to talk to customers right now, sorry.' Ooooookay we'll just keep standing here. Eventually, our waitress/savior Kate greeted us, sat us at a table, and gave us menus. She was younger, upbeat, kind, and apologetic for the confusion. We looked over the menu, and a third staff member came by to take our order. I ordered the Big Scoop cheeseburger basket with fries & my husband ordered the hot ham & cheese with fries. The hot ham & cheese was your average grilled cheese with a protein. Nothing special. The burger was good, but nothing special there either. You'll notice that the other half of the menu is all. ice. cream. Just options and options of different ways to order your ice cream; the flavors are listed on the wall, not on the menu. They are happy to make any changes or customizations to your ice cream order. IMO the menu was overwhelming with no easy way to sort or compare options, so it needs an overhaul in the way it's presented. We ended up getting the #13, Sweet Superstitions, with the flavors Moose Tracks & chocolate peanut butter ice cream scoops. Again, nothing special here; the two cherries promised in the menu was just one cherry cut in half, and the peanuts were stale. The fudge wasn't hot either. For a place called Big Scoop, we got pretty small scoops of ice cream. When we checked out at the counter, Kate helped us out again. She was very encouraging and was so excited to have us in town for the tulip festival. I hope Kate gets a raise or goes far in life! Overall, a fun memory but an underwhelming experience in terms of service and flavor.
