Forte Chocolates is where you go when you want exceptional chocolate. A chocolate boutique with bars, truffles, and more this isn't a place on par with mass produced chocolate - this is a place where you indulge with moderation as the price is on the upper end. Not that I can complain as everything about Forte reminds me of artistry and craftsmanship. The place is pristine with thoughtful displays. It is a pretty store reminding me of the old chocolate stores of my youth. There are more chocolate combinations than I have seen elsewhere. But it is expensive. Disappointed on the truffles as some rated "good", others blah... Not crazy about the textures and did not find the chocolate to be outstanding. Mount Vernon is hugely fortunate to have Forte Chocolates make its home here (and I am lucky it's a decent length drive from my house, else I'd gain 10 pounds a week ). Some of the bars are even made bean-to-bar by Forte. Others (and the various bonbons) use high-end couverture chocolate from some of the world's best. Yes, the chocolates here cost more. Get a grip. This is ethically sourced, top-shelf chocolate. It is going to cost more. If you want Russell Stover® chocolates at Russell Stover® prices and all the ethical slave and child labor issues that go along with that kind of chocolate, then don't even bother entering this store. But you are the one who is missing out. The flavor combos are incredible (and award-winning) and solidly executed. You may not like every flavor combo, but that's doesn't mean it's not a good flavor. It only means YOU don't like that particular flavor. Don't diss the chocolatier for your tastes. Besides the chocolates, the caramels are divine. If you're near Mount Vernon (even if you're passing through on I-5 or here for a festival), you owe it to yourself to stop in and load up. Oh, and who am I to make these claims? Tried a variety of the caramels and truffles. Love the decorative truffles. The passion fruit, honey lemon, strawberry lemonade, and my absolute fave..chocolate fig truffle with a nut. The boxes are expensive. I think the truffles are $5 a piece. The mid size box of 15 was $75. Great as a splurge chocolate. They have different bars and cocoa mixes too. So far it's hit or miss. It's an artistic experience or eating old toasted almonds on a less than fresh piece of $20 toffee. The Deets... I bought $100+ worth of goods and my $20 bag of almond butter toffee tastes old and stale, especially the nuts (think the smell of paint--don't care to eat something that tastes like it, especially after paying so much for it. I didn't taste the chocolate much for it being dark. I wish I had a sample of this one before purchasing. The woman that helped us was informative and the pieces, namely the truffles, were very beautiful. It was quite unique to taste the bars after our Salt & Straw collab experiences. The samples were great. My honey loved his lemon pepper white chocolate truffle, and the small bite I had was exquisite. Like eating a work of art. I tasted the pistachio and it wasn't so great. Ok. This place is kind of amazing. I can see why the head chocolatier is ranked 10 in the world. I can actually say that I hate white chocolate. It's normally crazy sweet and I can't stand it. Forte has 2 white chocolate bars that I could eat all day. One is the Rosemary & Sea Salt White Chocolate Bar. So good. I LOVED it. Her other is her White Chocolate Espresso Bar. This tasted like a latte. So amazing. Forte had works of art made of chocolate, crazy flavor combination bars, caramels and truffles. This is a place to check out while in Mt. Vernon. read more

Overall good experience. I had the lemon pepper truffle which packed a flavor punch, a more milk pistachio truffle, and a raspberry fig truffle which I really disliked because half of it was just fig. I also got a plain dark chocolate love heart that had yet to be eaten. The problem lies in the fact that there is no pricing to be seen on their truffles -- I assumed it would be on par with most other chocolatiers and run about 3.50 a piece. Well, my 4 truffles came out to $21.50, which honestly is absurd; however the more absurd part is that I was not made aware of the cost until after my card had been ran. So just a heads up, they're $5 each with the heart being an extra $1.50 for shape. read more

It's a hidden gem. It doesn't matter If you are a chocolate lover or not, you will love this place. They have the most unique flavors I have ever tried. This is a new chocolate store in Mt. Vermont. We stopped by to have lunch and found this place. Never imagined we would love this place. They have lot of sample to try and each one of them is unique and tasty. We ended up buying lot of chocolates. They also have really high quality macaroons. They import directly from France. I tried the lemon flavor and it was delicious. I wish they were located close to my house! They come to the Seattle chocolate festival every year. So looking forward to seeing the place again!! read more

Walked in, heard about the master chocolatier Karen winning these artisan awards, I had a terrific feeling that I was in the right place. And for owners out there who are too cheap to give out samples, that's why you're not making as much sales as can be. This decadent chocolate shop is the best. The staff there are phenomenal. We have a Summer Camp Educational Program, and our themed field-trip was candy/sweet businesses. Our group was actually meant to visit the factory up in Bellingham, but the trip became too long so we stopped at the Forte Location on 1st St in Mt Vernon. The staff there gave our group of 30 a small taste test for multiple flavors chocolates, Mrs. Samantha was very accommodating, She even read the children a book about the creation of chocolates, Sweet Coco, illustrated by Sarah Watson. Simple but elegant, Forte Chocolates has brought life back to downtown Mt. Vernon. When I entered the shop my ears were delighted by the soft piano music in the background. It seemed to drown out the rest of the world. There were samples on the shelves and a fantastic sales associate behind the counter. What an excellent surprise! My mom and I were walking down the street and greeted with a chocolate sample at the door of this chocolate shop. I don't want to say we are "easy" ladies, but we were definitely easily lured into this chocolate shop. Molly helped us and offered us plenty of chocolate samples. She knew an impressive amount of fun facts about the chocolates. She easily recalled all price questions as well. So I walked into the store in the Bellingham mall. Best. Decision. Ever. I hate white chocolate. I love the lemon pepper white chocolate. There's lemon. There's pepper. There's sea salt. Heaven exists in this delicious chocolate! My husband does not like dark chocolate. But when he tasted the sea salt milk chocolate, he was hooked. These are the best chocolate truffles I have had in the USA. They are also gold medal winners and the trufffles speak for themselves. The milk chocolate were not overly sweet like many other places. The dark chocolate was smooth but not super dense and leave ample flavor. This is a must try and I am defn going back to this place. The service was nice and friendly. Dissapointed to say the price and quality do not match up. Macarons($25 for 6) were dry, either from sitting out in the freezer too long or from being frozen immediately after being made and not thawed previous to selling(bakers will understand why this is a no-no) resulting in a crumbly, dry cookie throughout with no chew. The truffle($50 for 12) flavors were exceptional(balsamic fig, pumpkin spice, cherry almond being our favorites out of the twelve we purchased), but sadly the chocolate quality is just not up to par. This carried over to the house Willy Wonka themed chocolate bars($8 each/1.5oz). Finally the toffee($22) was the final letdown and final straw for the determination we will not be returning, with such a thin layer of actual toffee, the thick double coating of dark chocolate and large quantity of salted almonds masked the toffee flavor entirely. As avid fine food enthusiasts with a particular soft spot for small batch chocolates, this was a let down we did not see coming. read more
