My son-in-law is military and my daughter go shopping and let me tell you the staff is everything they are sweet they're kind they're helpful and to mention the prices are great for military families and they let you know when things come in cannot say enough for how they treat our soldiers. read more

Not a huge variety except for chips and soda; that's the most variety you will get. You have to check expiration dates carefully or you will get something three months expired like I have on multiple occasions. One good thing is they are open 7 days a week, and a 0730. Huge benefit for people who wake up at the crack of dawn. read more

The new access policy is still broken on it's second week. Soldiers getting off duty at 4pm are rushing to get in and shop before 5 and retirees are lined up to get in at 5. This creates exactly the situation everyone is tryptophan avoid. Vulnerable older people mixed in with troops that have been in groups all day. They still have not sped up the checkin process either. Of course most of the shelves of staples and cleaning supplies are still empty. PLEASE reverse the times or designate specific days for each group. read more

I LOVE THE COMMISSARY! I was so stubborn for so long and kept trying to buy my groceries at Wal Mart like an idiot. Cheapest price for meat, although attempt to get your meat on sunday afternoons or tuesdays as thats right after they get a new shipment in.. They accept manufacterer and other stores coupons, so it's great to stack up and get even more savings! I dont like that this place is closed on monday..for some reason thats always when I want to get my groceries. read more

Having lived overseas for awhile, the produce that arrived at Pearl Harbor, Schofield, and Hickam AFB looks a whole lot better than what we have at Fort Drum. Having been a MFI for the Army, the produce section is so not up to standard. I have been on the lookout for the MFIs here on Fort Drum but have yet to see them at the commissary. PCSing from Hawaii to Fort Drum, buying groceries at the commissary is about the same price which makes me wish we still had COLA. Also, the is the FIRST and ONLY commissary I have been to that is closed for a full work day. Most commissaries have staggered times but open everyday of the week and has different operating schedules for the holidays. On Mondays, the store is closed. Tuesday to Friday it is open for early bird shopping starting at 0730, normal hours are from 0800 to 2000. On Saturday, it's from 0900 to 1800 and on Sunday 1000 to 1800. There is the barely there Asian section. I have a friend that emailed the grocery manager to request items sold at the Pearl Harbor Commissary to be sold here on Fort Drum but still haven't received a reply yet. There is only one Asian market off post but it's a twenty minute drive into Watertown and pricey too. Walmart has better produce and meat selection as well. I figured moving to the mainland would be more affordable especially coming from overseas. We were stationed in SC and the Commissary had almost everything there. I guess it's because DeCA HQ is in VA thus the better access to better market. I hope they improve selection for patrons here on Fort Drum because we rely on having affordable prices on post as compared to shopping off post. Also, it would be nice if the surcharge for shopping wasn't so expensive!! read more

They are mostly friendly however the manager at the meat department is pretty rude. When I asked for a package to be split in half she rolled her eyes and took FOREVER to bring it back out! The baggers are very nice as are the cashiers. I'm always disappointed that they never seem to stock anything "new" and usually stop stocking things we love! It's annoying! The other complaint is that prices jump so high around payday. I've literally gone in the day or so before and a tub of peanut butter marked at 1.99 is now 3.09 on payday!! I buy the SAME laundry soap every month and it is always 4.87 however on payday it goes up to 6.99 or higher!!! Ridiculous read more

Like every other military family, we rely on the Commissary for our basic grocery needs. Prices are great and the people are friendly! One star off because of their awful Asian ingredient selection. It consists of one refrigerated section in a far-off corner of the store that sells, maybe, ginger, wonton wrappers, and kimchi, and that's it? The kimchi is awful as well. So maybe the Commissary doesn't suffice for EVERY item on my grocery list, but they don't try to be fancy in the first place. Beats shopping at Wal-Mart for sure! Still looking for a decent Asian market and Fresh Market/Whole Foods type place in the area! Alas. read more

Deli counter makes some of the best sub sandwiches in the area. They even have a good system down to accommodate the lunch crowd. Sushi bar is right next to the sandwich bar and is made fresh daily and to order. Great alternative for a quick lunch. read more

If you want to get some steaks cut for you, go somewhere else. These butchers dont know what they are doing at all and they hide stuff. I asked for 13 steaks to be cut 1&1/2 inches thick and for there to be minimal fat on them as well. I noticed once I started preparing them at home that there was an excessive amount of fat on all of them except for 3 and those were the top 3 on the stack. There was over 5 pounds of fat that they didnt cut off. Tried to take all the fat back in with my receipt and they wouldnt refund my money. Point being, if you want good steaks cut and dont want to be cheated, then go somewhere else. read more

This Commissary is Large! Well stocked, great staff, very helpful and eager to please any request. Store is very clean, easy access. G-r-e-a-t prices! I saved quite a bit on my purchases here, and the meat prices can't be beat even by the discount chains! Wonderful cuts of beef and pork, too! Definitely a 5 star store in my opinion! :-) read more

I've used the Ft Drum Commissary for several decades it has definitely changed over that time. While I live no more than 10 minutes from the commissary I seldom use it. I find the selection of goods to be limited and prices over the past decade have sky rocketed. IMO, Vendor Stocking was great for DECA but not very good for the consumer. Their claim of customer savings is at best misleading. I find that a smart shopper can buy the same groceries downtown cheaper. Why is it that the commissary won't give us the option of purchasing no name brands of can goods? I shop at Aldi's and save up to 50% for the same product with quality is just as good as the name brand. A can of corn for example at Aldi's is $.49 to $.60 in the commissary it's a minimum of $.85 and that's on-sale. Meat Department: Select grade reigns supreme at the Commissary and it is cheaper than what you'll find downtown, so if you like sirloin that has no flavor you'll save money. Me I like beef to taste like beef so I buy at Sam's where I may pay a little more for the same product but the flavor and tenderness is worth it to me. One other thing is in NY food (unless it's prepared) is non taxable where at the Commissary you'll pay the surcharge on your whole order. I don't like that they no longer have butchers instead they have cutters. It makes a huge difference when you purchase a bulk piece of meat and have them cut it for you. Deli Section: This is a vendor and their meats are way overpriced. I deli meats at Walmart to be cheaper and it's the same brand. Dairy Section: usually cheaper at the Commissary but not by much milk, butter, eggs, cream, and etc is the same or lower at Aldi's and I've yet to purchase an expired item. I can't say the same for the Commissary. Fresh Vegetables: I use the term fresh loosely for the Commissary. I've purchased rotten potato's, passed up crinkled old looking green beans, soft cucumbers, and limp asparagus just to name a few items. Their selection is limited and seldom changes. I'd rater pay a few cents more downtown. All I can say is that this is not the Commissary system I used in my 22 years of service. I sometimes wonder if AAFES hasn't taken over DECA. read more

I really do like the commissary. Cheapest place in Watertown to buy groceries. I spend 120 dollars for me and my husbands grocery for two weeks. And we have plenty of food for those two weeks. They also have great customer service and always willing to help the customer find the product they are looking for. read more

I was at Drum from 2007-2011 and I found the commissary and PX to be subpar. I am picky when comes to food shopping and I have found that every commissary is always a bit dirty and lacking in items. Typically my wife and I go to whole foods or fresh market when back home in GA. The commissaries may be cheaper and you get more for your money, but they don't have the choices, ambiance, or quality of food. During our 4 years there, we would head down to Syracuse and go to Wegman's. Well worth the 2 hr round trip drive. read more

if you shop sales, shop smart with coupons, and dedicate 2 hours a week, you'll spend 1/3 less shopping at the other local stores primarily than the commissary, even though they promise the best prices, you end up with higher quality food, and its far less of a hassle. its decent to grab a few things on your way home. avoid payday, the day before, and the day after. closed Mondays. seemingly always out of ground turkey and random meats on certain days are out...wicked inconsistent, and pooooor quality.....ugh. vegetables are lousy, fruits are good, potatoes/onions good. deli can be a cluster---no set system. poorly stocked sometimes. only 4 self check out registers---annoying, because there's a ton of non-self check outs, but you have zero option when it comes to the baggers bagging your food, bringing it to your car for you, and then standing waiting for their tip, they work on tips only. so, instead of looking lazy but getting through a line in 5 minutes, I do self check out, which usually takes 30+ mins. I have too much dignity to be a healthy strong woman with 2 arms and 2 legs to be lazy and have someone else carry my groceries. they really need to get rid of that system army-wide. read more
