I don't know if I've ever had more genuinely nice, or good, service at a restaurant ever. It's really hard for me to knock a star off and only give four, because our maître d' was that amazing. We managed to stumble in off the street and get a table before most of the other diners arrived, as the place was fully booked. We had the table for just over an hour, so it was fairly rushed, though we felt very lucky and glad we settled on Forresters.
There are a couple of things that could have been better: my rib eye steak, though a decent size, was quite thin and therefore came out medium well, rather than medium rare - probably unavoidable with such a thin cut. And we didn't really have time for it to be returned to the kitchen. Luckily it was still delicious and tender, but I always find overcooked steak a little disappointing. And the cheesecake dessert appeared within a minute of ordering it. I know most restaurants prepare items like this in advance, but even one minute more and it wouldn't have felt like it had been whipped straight out of the fridge. Again, this is largely because we had such little time, and it tasted great anyway.
The good points far outweighed these niggles though - my friend's duck looked perfectly cooked and by all accounts it was. I had a surprisingly excellent side salad, the presentation of the food was pleasing but not fussy, the ambience was relaxed, the whole experience was enjoyable and especially so because of the warmest, friendliest (and somehow totally unobtrusive) service I think I've ever had. My only regret is that I think I forgot to tip when I left, which is something I intend to make up for the next time I dine there. read more
