This was recommended to me when I couldn't get a table at another Shanklin restaurant. I'm so glad I dined here! The food was fabulous (more about that in a moment) and the staff was lovely. It was the perfect evening meal after walking about 15 miles all over the island.
The food was glorious: I had the grilled sardines as a starter and pork chops as my main. The sardines were a revelation, mouth watering in a lemon and garlicky sauce. The pork was perfectly cooked and the sides of steamed veggies and chips (one needs a bit of vice) were of such large proportions, I might have been at home here in the U.S. Even after all that food, I opted for dessert because they had Eton Mess on the menu and I couldn't resist. It was amazing! Truly one of the best desserts I've ever eaten. The meringue was crisp and had a slight lemon tang to it and despite all the cream, it was light, airy and so delicious!
This was a budget trip for me so I didn't seek fine dining experiences. That said, this was a glorious and special meal, the best I had during my visit. read more
