If you're looking for "cheap and cheerful" options for Carmel souvenirs - this is the place! A lot of little knick knacks here. A bit more kitchy than the fanicer shops around the main strip. But they certainly have lots of options. They were also well staffed for a busy day on Boxing Day, but overheard 2 staff talking about previous customers -- which wasn't very professional and my friends and I left without buying anything...

This cute souvenir shop has so many things to offer- from things you'll need at the beach (blankets, pail & shovel) to one's you take home for family and friends and as a souviner. I love the hoodies and tees especially! The store is clean and everything is neatly organized, and easy to find. One customer (a local) said among all the stores, this one has the best & reasonable pricing. It turns out, this is a favorite among locals and tourists alike! They even sell balls like volleyball, playground ball, and a rugby ball, in case you forget to bring your own to play with at the beach. Odd, maybe, but I took note of it because we always forget to bring ours when we go to the beach. The staff were warm and helpful!

A pretty nice shop for tourist merchandise! I picked up a couple of Carmel postcards here but they also had apparel, jewelry, collectibles, magnets, stickers, and pretty much everything you can think of (all Carmel-themed, of course). Everything was really neat and the service was good. Worth a look if you're souvenir hunting!

Canvas bag you get with purchase of $50.00 or more.

Young male with black hair at register was rude. Not helpful at all and had an unwelcoming personality.

I loved the sweatshirts here and the ornaments. You get a cute Forever Carmel bag if you spend over a certain amount of money.

One thing about going to a new city is how you imagine an area in your mind's eye, sometimes…read moredoesn't match the reality. Knowing that this outdoor shopping center was 3 stories and had over 30 stores, I expected the area around it to be like a city center, with heavy foot and car traffic, lots of noise, and business advertisement. Instead, I wasn't sure if we were in the right place, because the neighborhood looked residential. The city planners/architects did a really nice job to implement this intention. The shopping center first opened in 1960, as an open-air courtyard style with a luxury department store, unheard of at the time for a town that small. Throughout the years, it hosted a major department store chain (Saks Fifth Avenue) as well. Now, in keeping with Carmel's intention to not have any national brand retail in it's city limits, the majority of stores/restaurants at this mall are local (though there are exceptions like Tiffany & Co, Anthropologie, and Brunello Cuccinelli). We got lucky and found free street a block from the center. Even on a Monday late morning, it was quite busy with tourists and locals alike hanging out in the main courtyard. A really nice feature was the large outdoor gas firepit that people were using to keep warm. We had come for a particular restaurant, but were informed that they were closed for the day for a private event (no signs or mention on their website)...I guess that's how this particular business rolls.

It was a little pricy at $110, but we like to support local art. The attendant gave us a new one in the box, instead of one already hanging that we were looking at. When we got home to Arizona, I unpacked the item, and found a MADE IN CHINA TAG!!! They appear to buy cheap art from China, and mark it up. If you want to support local art, find another store.

Now, I…read moreexpected that things would be expensive, I mean it's a gift shop for tourists (i.e., things will be overpriced) and at Big Sur (i.e., an area where everything is overpriced). But if you look at something in this gift shop, and think about what would be an overpriced price for it, and then double that, then you'll almost be at the price for it. Like there was this tiny little jar of local salt that was about the size of a thimble, and I thought oh that's cute, maybe that would be a nice souvenier, and then it was either $17 or $19 when I looked at the price. I mean it was tiny!! I mean, it was the kind of thing that should be like $3, but I thought gift shop so probably $7 or $8, but no, more than double that. Things were crazy expensive, and the more I looked at things, the more it just pissed me off, and took away from the experience of even just looking at nice things without intention to buy. It made me want to leave the store. I've never had a feeling like that in any touristy gift shop I've ever been to in my life, not anywhere in the US including other coastal areas of CA, not overseas. It was also not friendly while you are browsing, nor welcoming when you walk in. I would not go here again, and I would not recommend it to friends.
