Super rude employee. I walked in the store eating the last 2 bites of a chocolate covered banana and the guy said to me "didn't you see the sign on the door no food or drinks!" There are so many kind ways to address the issue. The door was open i'm sure anyone eating a snack misses their dinky sign. You can't be blatantly rude to customers and expect to sell anything. IMHO On my last visit to the quaint touristy town of Carmel-by-the-Sea, I was hoping to find a nice "Carmel" tee shirt as a souvenir. However, I'm cheap (okay, thrifty) and Carmel isn't known for its bargain shopping. There were many fine and pretty choices in other stores, but I didn't want to pay $35 or more unless it was absolutely spectacular! Forever Carmel's store-front windows caught my eye as they showcased some of their touristy ware, and it was enough to draw me in. Suffice it to say, they've got the affordable souvenir merchandise you're looking for. I walked past all that stuff searching for the perfect tee shirt and I found it!!! What made it even more perfect was the price! It was only $15.99!!! The nice sales associate encouraged me to try the shirt on for size. Note: there are no dressing rooms, but he said I could just put it on over my own top. Okay! He recommended a size large, but I opted for a size medium. Love my shirt, loved the price, and I will definitely return on my next Carmel visit! read more

But they certainly have lots of options. This cute souvenir shop has so many things to offer- from things you'll need at the beach (blankets, pail & shovel) to one's you take home for family and friends and as a souviner. I love the hoodies and tees especially! The store is clean and everything is neatly organized, and easy to find. One customer (a local) said among all the stores, this one has the best & reasonable pricing. It turns out, this is a favorite among locals and tourists alike! They even sell balls like volleyball, playground ball, and a rugby ball, in case you forget to bring your own to play with at the beach. Odd, maybe, but I took note of it because we always forget to bring ours when we go to the beach. The staff were warm and helpful! read more

My 19 month old boy, my elderly mother, and I were browsing for souvenirs. My mom was looking at T-shirts. My boy discovered multiple small plastic baskets with toys in them... little cars, etc. these were already "open" -- i.e. there was no packaging. Naturally, he grabbed a small toy bus and started pushing it on the floor, like any child would. No big deal right? The young man working there rudely stated to me/us "Watch the floors!" Surprised, I looked up and asked "He can't push that on the floor?" And the guy replied "It says it on the signs" while he pointed to small signs on the toys' baskets that said "Do not open prior to purchase." We did not "open" anything sir. It was already open. Your signs said nothing about "Do not play with toys" or "Do not push toys on the floor." That would be quite ridiculous considering you have small childrens' toys right there, at child height, wide open and ready to touch and try. Very rude employee. We left and won't go back. Too many other souvenir shops around where they are actually nice. Suggestion: Replace these rude and unprofessional employees with good, nice ones. read more

A pretty nice shop for tourist merchandise! I picked up a couple of Carmel postcards here but they also had apparel, jewelry, collectibles, magnets, stickers, and pretty much everything you can think of (all Carmel-themed, of course). The good: This is a souvenir shop for Carmel/Monterey-related gifts with really affordable gifts! I got 2 pairs of super cushiony flip flops here with leather straps for only $16.99 each. They were the kind that I'd expect to be around $60. I also got a Carmel Christmas ornament for under $9. They also have very nice bags and allow returns. They sell things that include baby clothes, purses, adult clothes, ornaments, stickers, wallets, toys and much more. The bad: Parking is limited in this area and can get very crowded on the weekends. The cashier girl wasn't unfriendly but she wasn't friendly either. The interesting: There's a souvenir shop next door as well but it has more clothes and this store has more knick-knacks. read more

Came into this store because I was drawn by the puny shirts they had displayed outside. This store had the typical shirts and jackets with Monterey Bay printed on the front and other Knick knacks and novelty items. I made my way to the shirts I had been eyeing, which were located in the racks in front of the cashier area. I ended up grabbing a Hairy Otter shirt and a hOtter Sauce shirt for my boyfriend. I approached the register and the worker there took a bit to realize I was there to make a purchase before I was on my way again. read more

Horrible customer service by cashier. There is a certain way to speak to people and that was not it. The checkout cashier made it a point to individually call out my husband after walking in and around the store for about 5-6 mins, for having A LOLLIPOP STICK in his mouth and state "you know if you knew to read the sign at the front, there's a sign that says no food or drink". . . For a lollipop stick?! Regardless, even if it was an issue, there's a certain way to POLITELY ask to dispose of it but that's not ok. Not sure if the dude was having a bad day or just hates his job but if so, find another job. Sucks because it ruined our whole Carmel experience being that there are very little souvenir stores on that street. That attitude was so uncalled for. I came here on Saturday and I regret of purchasing some of their stuff. When I was ready to purchase, two Hispanic girls that works there were very rude. Bad customer service. They don't greet their customers or say thank you. They look at each other and make weird faces like they were just making fun of their customers. They heavy set girl who helped at the register along with her short tiny friend/co-worker needs to be taught how to work at a retail store. I would never come back there ever. And also the manager "Whitney" who I spoke to her over the phone a minute ago wasn't professional herself. I would love to give zero star if there's a only a way. It has some nice quality souvenirs for your loved ones. OK selection of warm hoodies, mugs, fridge magnets and a pretty good children's selection... but what made this visit horrible is the poor staff that work here. While people were walking around in the store, two Hispanic workers were talking about customers of Asian decent which is horrible and absurd! Even a customer and I frowned at each other at the rudeness! I was checking out my Christmas ornament and when I asked where the manager was, they replied with a nasty look that she had left already. Purchase pants at there Carmel By the Sea store and paid cash. The clerk handed me the bag, I assumed the receipt wasn't in the bag. Went back to my room, tried them on and they were to small. Very very bad customer service received today. I always come down to Carmel by the Sea, CA once a month The ladies (two) that were there today we the most rude and obnoxious individuals they had........I was there around Noon today I will never go back, they humiliated a senior lady who was asking about sizes for her granddaughter......They told her "size is on it, cant you read".... the senior responded that she had difficult eyes. I told them they should NOT be working here if this is how they treat customers. Shameful, disrespectful and THey should NOT be here serving the public with that attitude. Two women cashiers...standing doing nothing. When my turn came I asked for a bag 3 times before they gave it to me, i was entitled to a bag since my purchase was over 100.00 I always received a canvas bag, forever Carmel.....they said they NEVEr carried them......I have them and they pretty much have no clue that they do. I recently had family visit and I showed them around Carmel. We walked into this cute little shop and loved it! The sales associate who helped us was extremely helpful in getting us sizes.
