Placed an order on the phone. Associate did a great job helping me look for items in my discussed…read moresize range US 2-4. I was sent a pair of pants to consider in a UK size 4, BUT UAL tag was NOT labeled as UK. It simply said "4" and was the only visible size on the garment photo, leading both myself (and I'm assuming the associate who was only sending options she believed in my range) to believe it was a size 4 US. Pants were obviously several sizes too small after size conversion. I could not wear them upon arrival. Manager refused to allow me to return them for anything other than store credit even after my explaining entire situation and sending screenshots of conversation and recalling phone conversations that were not on text. She took one screenshot out of context as "proof" that I had size information. I had a waist and inseam measurement on the pants, which in no way defines the entire fit of the pant as a whole. The waist fit me as did the length, however they were bulging tight in the legs and did not fit as they should have had they been a US size 4. She ignored dozens of other texts and conversations that made it clear that I was looking specifically at a US size range and the associate was understanding and helping me with that. Manager also told me "our customers should just know" what brands require size conversions and which do not, even though nowhere on the UAL tag did it say "UK" 4, so I would have known to make the conversion. Overall, associate was wonderful and doing her best to be helpful. But mistakes do happen and it seems unfair to penalize a customer for a sizing error that her UAL staff also made (non-intentionally). Manager was incredibly condescending and difficult to deal with. UAL has great prices and pieces, but you better hope you never have an issue with anything because there is a huge unwillingness to resolve or be anything other than stubborn and defensive over something that should be a very simple refund for a misunderstanding in which UAL absolutely shared blame. based off of conversations with an associate knowing my desired size range and these subsequent photos, I reasonably assumed and relied on UAL's staff and tag to believe that these were my correct US size.

All of my pre-conceived notions about this store immediately disappeared, as Judson was very friendly and professional; and their suits were far less expensive that I had imagined. He was also extremely knowledgeable of their product line and let me try on several suits, as this would have to be my go-to suit since my other suits were now too big to be tailored and were given away to Goodwill. After trying on several offerings, and with a little reassurance from Judson, I purchased a suit and a shirt with an athletic build (I'm no athlete); as he stated it fit well with my recent weight loss. Also, don't be afraid to ask if something is going on sale soon if the price seems a little expensive, as Jos. A. Bank "throws" sales all the time. I was quite pleased that although the suit I selected was not on sale, he still discounted it to make it a little more affordable. I have been back since then to buy another dress shirt and tie to make this suit a little more versatile and Judson was just as helpful as he was during the initial purchase. I highly recommend shopping here if you are looking for men's formal wear, and although I'm sure all of the employees are good, I'd ask for Judson. (They have a limited ladies section upstairs as well as children's clothing, but my experience is for their main focus, men's clothing) If you're looking for simply new polos up to a white linen suit or white tie, you'll find it at Perlis. Another big value of shopping there is the opinion of their very well informed employees that seem to know every sartorial rule/best practice under the sun. This long running family business has never let me down when looking for a new outfit to stroll the quarter in or the right formal rental for a mardi gras ball or otherwise. I think the best testament I can give is I used them for our wedding with no issue whatsoever. Only con I've experienced, and usually excuse, is to make sure and always try on their rentals before grabbing and leaving. I'd say more times than not, there has been a fit issue with the rental attire when trying them on. Shirt sleeves too short, shoes too small, pants too high, bow tie missing, etc. Perlis urges their customers to try everything on when you come to pick up anyhow, so just make sure to keep up with common sense and you should be good.

We spotted one in the window that we loved, so we went upstairs to check it out. A clerk asked if we needed anything, and we happily said yes--we were looking for the dress in the window and just wanted to check the sizes and availability. Her response? "There are four dresses in the window," delivered in a pretty snarky tone, like we were clueless. It caught us off guard. We clarified that we meant the one with the floral pattern, and she immediately pointed us toward the sale section instead. At that point, I honestly wish we had just walked out. What made it worse was what happened next. While we kept browsing, two other women came upstairs, and the same clerk greeted them warmly and even offered them water. One said yes, and the clerk happily went to get it. The difference in how we were treated was hard to ignore. I've always liked Perlis and the quality of their clothing, so I'll still shop there--but only at the Covington location. I won't be returning to the Uptown store. Management should really address how customers are treated upstairs. Not everyone who can afford to shop there is going to walk in dressed up--some of us are in shorts, flip-flops, or workout clothes. That shouldn't affect the level of service. Pretty disappointing experience overall.
