BUYER BEWARE - READ THE FINE PRINT (IF YOU CAN FIND IT)…read more Ridiculous policies. Will shop other stores instead. Had a bad experience here a couple years ago, but tried to give it a second chance this week. I've now been burned twice, and I will not be spending anymore money here. Sad, because it does have cute stuff and it's in my neighborhood. In 2022, I purchased a clothing item for my son on black Friday. Everything in the store was discounted 20% or so that day, including full-priced items. This sale was announced verbally to customers as they shopped in the store. I purchased overalls (discounted to $70) in a 3T for my son who was wearing size 2T in most brands. Unfortunately, they were too tight to pull over his legs. When I tried to exchange for a larger size THE VERY NEXT MORNING, the owner said it could not be exchanged because I had purchased the item "on sale" on black Friday. Meanwhile, the other size was just sitting on the rack... and this policy was not announced at the time of my purchase! Had I known there was a no-exchange policy, I would not have purchased the silly overalls for my toddler! It was meant to be a fun purchase at a local store, a little splurge during the holiday break. There was no customization or monogram. What a waste of money! I felt like a sucker and hoped that I'd have a second kid who could fit into them someday. Last week, I purchased several items from the store for my child while he was at school. Because of my previous experience, I asked the cashier if the items could be returned if they didn't fit, as the items were all full price. She said yes, they can be returned. Today, I took two items into the store to return them, and another cashier said they only offer store credit, no refunds. I explained that I had asked about returns at the time of purchase, and the other employee said they could be returned. She just said "sorry the other person didn't explain it to you, that's the store policy". I scanned the room to see if I had missed a large and obvious sign explaining this policy for every item in the store. After several glances, I finally noticed the TINY sign next to some gift cards explaining the no-refunds policy. There are other local stores that offer the same brands, but don't make me feel foolish for shopping with them. (One of them is only a block away.) There is no need to be so stressed out shopping for little kid clothes! I will take my money elsewhere.

What a fantastic "mom & pop" shoe store. I recently needed a new pair of shoes for my 9-year old,…read morewho is very hard to fit. Living in the Lakeview area, I'm not sure how my wife stumbled onto Haase's Shoe Store, but I'm glad she did, as this is definitely our new go-to spot for kid's shoes. Located on Oak street just off of S. Carrollton, the exterior façade looks like it was taken right out of the 1960's; and I like that a lot. Founded in 1921 as Haase's Shoe Store and Young Folks Shop, they have 100 years of experience, and it shows. As I walked towards the store, I was immediately reminded of a Norman Rockwell painting, but I digress. Upon walking in, I was very courteously greeted by Mr. Kevin Caliva who, after asking what he could help us with, measured my sons feet and showed us what he had in stock. He was the consummate professional (no AL Bundy here) and treated us like we were the only people in the store, which we definitely were not. They had an incredible selection of kids' shoes. Not only did they have a large selection of tennis shoes, but they also carried boots, first walkers, casual shoes, infant crib shoes, loafers, moccasins, Oxfords, rain boots, slipper, sandals, lots of Velcro shoes up to size 5 and a huge assortment of kids school shoes. In fact, their section of solid black sneakers for school use was the most diverse I've ever seen in ANY shoe store. Haase's also sells clothing, some school uniforms, accessories and does monogramming. They even sell gift cards, which I think would be a big hit, as this store is phenomenal. We left the store with a brand new pair of Asics for my son. Kevin took my contact information, as we wanted another pair of shoes that he didn't currently have in stock. However, we are going to gladly wait for a new shipment, as this is now our go-to store shoe store for our son! I can't recommend this place enough!

Perlis is a men's clothing store in New Orleans. Depending on whom you ask, it is THE men's…read moreclothing store of New Orleans. (They have a limited ladies section upstairs as well as children's clothing, but my experience is for their main focus, men's clothing) If you're looking for simply new polos up to a white linen suit or white tie, you'll find it at Perlis. Another big value of shopping there is the opinion of their very well informed employees that seem to know every sartorial rule/best practice under the sun. This long running family business has never let me down when looking for a new outfit to stroll the quarter in or the right formal rental for a mardi gras ball or otherwise. I think the best testament I can give is I used them for our wedding with no issue whatsoever. Only con I've experienced, and usually excuse, is to make sure and always try on their rentals before grabbing and leaving. I'd say more times than not, there has been a fit issue with the rental attire when trying them on. Shirt sleeves too short, shoes too small, pants too high, bow tie missing, etc. Perlis urges their customers to try everything on when you come to pick up anyhow, so just make sure to keep up with common sense and you should be good.

Our visit to Perlis (Uptown location) on April 10, 2026 left a really bad impression…read more My girlfriend and I, both locals, were shopping on Magazine Street for a dress for a summer wedding. We spotted one in the window that we loved, so we went upstairs to check it out. A clerk asked if we needed anything, and we happily said yes--we were looking for the dress in the window and just wanted to check the sizes and availability. Her response? "There are four dresses in the window," delivered in a pretty snarky tone, like we were clueless. It caught us off guard. We clarified that we meant the one with the floral pattern, and she immediately pointed us toward the sale section instead. At that point, I honestly wish we had just walked out. What made it worse was what happened next. While we kept browsing, two other women came upstairs, and the same clerk greeted them warmly and even offered them water. One said yes, and the clerk happily went to get it. The difference in how we were treated was hard to ignore. I've always liked Perlis and the quality of their clothing, so I'll still shop there--but only at the Covington location. I won't be returning to the Uptown store. Management should really address how customers are treated upstairs. Not everyone who can afford to shop there is going to walk in dressed up--some of us are in shorts, flip-flops, or workout clothes. That shouldn't affect the level of service. Pretty disappointing experience overall.
