I enjoy bringing my family out, some of us friends meet out there and it is a beautiful thing. However, my experience this past weekend (June 20) was anything but. Unsupervised Teenagers were there. The inappropriate language, the trucks and dirt bikes kicking up sand and the drinking has definitely gotten out of hand. I have no answer or idea on how to curtail these behaviors but at some point it will have to be addressed. One teen was so drunk he could barely stand. The others were trying to sober him up by standing him in the water; and the boy tipped over. We could not reach them because we were in the middle of the lake. It was a horrible situation. A young girl in an uncomfortable position being groped by an intoxicated boy as his friends stood by and watched. By the time an adult tried to intervene, they were gone. This lake should be a place for everyone to enjoy, but that's not easy to do any more

They have fit a lot into the space, and the large dog area allows quite a bit of open space. Unfortunately it was unmaintained and the overgrown grass is a haven for ticks, ants, and God knows what else. We saw teams playing baseball, a group of kids playing basketball, kids and their dad doing tennis drills, and kids at the splash pad and playground. The dog park areas were empty and we explored, but not for long because it was unwelcoming with the uncut grass. The parking lot was filled with litter and there was a bit of an unsafe feeling all around. Though people were there for recreation, all the parents were on edge, and just wary. I'm not from Jax so idk the safety of this area, just googled a free splash pad for my kid. It did the job, and was safe enough, but it wasn't a place we felt comfortable to stay for long.

I feel perfectly safe walking around, it's always clean, lawn manicured, quiet, & landscaped beautifully. The gorgeous old tree in the back by the open field is the true show stopper. The loop around the park is fairly short, but very pretty. If I had to take a guess on the length, I'd say it's half a mile long or a little less. It's the perfect length for dog walking on these hot summer days.

Alexandria Oaks Park is perfect for a large group playing frisbee, the loner with a good book, or a play park for the pups. Tips -- parking on North and South end, doggie bags available, massive greenway, basic walk path, rec leagues play here occasionally. When I first moved to San Marco, my kickball league used to play here on Sundays. The greenway that expands from the South to North end of the park is big enough for a music festival. Even if noise or crowds aren't your thing, there's plenty of room on the greenway for you to get some peace and quiet on your blanket. Hey, have I mentioned I have a new dog? Yeah, yeah. Well, we took her here for a play date yesterday and it was great. She had enough room to roam around, meet other dogs, and play until she was short of breath. I expect more frequent visits to Alexandria Oaks Park in the future.

All in all, Alejandro Garces Camp Tomahawk Park is a wonderful park and a great place in particular for the residents of this quiet side street. We need parks like this in our communities. This is a wonderful place to come in respite. I would definitely recommend a visit here, especially if you are in the neighborhood or anywhere in the general area. It ended up cutting itself off I believe around 7, or 8pm. Probably 8pm because it was getting a little darker around that time. As I rode around the walking path I noticed a basketball court, playground with play sets, two restroom, pavilion, about 2-3 baseball fields and even a batting cage. Which sounds great, but the amount of trash and loitering definitely made it seem like this park gets a little strange at night. One of the restroom towards the back had a truck camped close to it. As if they were living there. The restroom near the front entrance just looks sketchy in general plus people under the pavilion side eyeing me, along with all the parked vehicle activity made it even more sketchy.
