We came to this park for family pictures and it did not disappoint! Parking was easy and convenient. This park has wonderful views of the St Johns River. It's also equipped with old willow trees, which really gives your pictures depth and character. There is also an older house on the property that you can get pictures taken in front of. The showstopper is the beautiful foliage AND the boardwalk. You can get some awesome sunsetting/golden hours pics. This park also has rocking swings to take in the sights and a jungle gym for the kiddos. read more

I have been to Alpine Groves Park for many years. I remember when just a few people knew about it but word spread quickly. It's great because the walks are paved and just beautiful scenery all the way to the Pier. The park also has the original cottage from the time the area was an orange grove. Great park to take a hike along the Saint Johns River. There are 2 trails, one short one by the entrance which is a loop through the woods. The second trail leads into the woods and opens up by the river. There are bathrooms and a picnic area too. read more

So happy to find that park as it's a great way to spend a day with family! We stopped at Playground, then walked among forest, enjoyed pier and river view, stopped for picnic and swings. Everything SHADOWED!!! ISNT IT GREAT! I wish it would be Everywhere like this, as we need more shadow and trees! read more

Wonderful park in north St.John's along the St John's River. It is a historic park in that there is a farm house on property from the 1700's; owned until 2000 then it was all deeded to the county. They have a nice play ground, picnic tables on the St John's and building that are probably used for events...very nice! read more

If you love to hike, run, checkout nature, or just a photographer at heart, this is one park worth checking into. A rather small park, yet it offers big things. The park has paved and shaded walking trails, with bench seats where you can rest in between. These trails are well kept. Leading back into the trails you will find a nice abandoned, historic house that is PERFECT for picture taking. And just within 20 yards from that house, is the Saint Johns River which pairs up for an even beautiful scenery. And while you are at it, walk further down into the pier, have a sit, relax and enjoy God's gift around you. The pier is very scenic. There are so many things this park offers and despite it all; the park continues to remain well maintained and well kept each time I go. I just wish this park had some trails worth riding. Well, perhaps somewhere in the near future. read more

My family and I were looking to get out of the house and go somewhere. We decided on Alpine Groves after being recommended it by our neighborhood newsletter. It was a short drive from our house, and when we started driving through the entrance, we were impressed by how far back the park goes to the river. It was a little challenging to find parking, as there are not many spots on a busy day, but we were able to find one. We pulled out the stroller for the baby and started walking. There's sidewalks from the river to the front of the park, and the trails are long and winding through the trees. There's not a sidewalk around the main green space of the riverfront park, so be careful when pushing a stroller through the grass and dirt. They offer tours of the farmhouse where William Bartram lived from 1-3 pm. There were families sitting around playing and eating near the farmhouse and playing music. There were families near the playground for a birthday party, and plenty of kids were on the playground playing. The dock goes out into the St. Johns River and gives a beautiful view. We had a wonderful time enjoying the fresh air and walking around. We recommend and will be back soon! read more

This is a nice, neighborhood park. There is one hiking/walking trail which is paved and wanders thru the woods. Several lovely spots for a picnic, a pretty pier, spots along the water to wander with benches to stop and enjoy the view. For the kids, the playground is nice and there is lots of room to run and explore. read more

What a beautiful park. 4 stars only for a filthy bathroom. We went there to meet friends for a 4th of July boat party. Before getting out on the water we had a chance to explore. Beautiful settings all throughout the park. Beautiful water views. Terrific deck area. Plenty of parking. Park was very clean...with the exception of the bathroom. This was my first visit here and it is a long way from my home. Not sure how often I will come back. Had a great day in the park and on the water with friends and family. read more

This is one of the most relaxing places to go located in the Switzerland area on the St. Johns River where you can take a nice walk and enjoy the natural Florida scenery. Never too crowded nor touristy. It's a terrific place to be with nature and reflect. Definitely bring your camera and some drinking water. And if you just want to take a break from the urban area yyou call home, leave your wallet because this place is free. :) A hidden gem. read more

We spend a lot of time here year round. It is one of our favorite places to go with or without the kids on a nice day. Park in the first parking area and take the trail past the playground and all the way to the back (there is also a parking area here) to enjoy a quick walk and then end up at the home. This used to be a working orange grove and the owner left it to his daughter. It's my understanding that she gifted it to the city with an agreement it would never be developed and always be a free park for all to enjoy. Key things to see and do: For kids there is a great playground (near first parking lot) For the history buffs: Well maintained home and buildings (barn etc) on the property (back parking lot but also accessible via the trail. For the romantic: Swings and long pier overlooking the water For the adventurous: Kayak put in on the back of the property (watch for gators). We love it here and there is a great breeze off the water, plenty of green space to relax and spend an afternoon. The only downside is this is a very popular photography location so 9 times out of 10 you will have to move around someone getting their picture taken by a professional...they do tend to take over a bit. Also, look at the facebook page for events and fundraisers held here often. read more

This park is very well clean. Nice view off St. John's River pier you can walk out on and to the left a little trail that you can walk to the water and sand. My granddaughter found a lot of shells and a crab ce to say hi. The playground is nice for kids and shaded. read more

Love this little park! Walking trails, butterfly garden and pier. There is also a playground for the little guys. The old homestead and surrounding buildings are being restored and will someday be open to the public. The pier has a nice view of the St. John's River. Most of the time there is a nice relaxing breeze there. Nice place to walk your dog. read more

We love taking the kids to the playground and then walking around to see the water and citrus trees.

This is a great park. I almost don't want to review it so no one else will go here. The views of the river a freaking gorgeous. There is a nice dock to fish or just hang out on. There are some trails but not really enough to drive here to go "running". There is a nice play area for the kids though. You can't swing a dead cat here on the weekends without hitting someone doing family pictures or something like that. Which really is a problem for my dead cat swinging club that meets every third Saturday. read more

my wife and i love this park. there is a large playground with a short 'rock' wall that our oldest grandson has mastered, swings, teeter totter, multiple slides, and typical rides for our second oldest. there are several short walking trails with many kinds of vegetation. there is a barn up front with a butterfly garden and sour orange trees. the park has a nice waterfront area with a large fishing pier. there is an old barn and home which is currently being refurbished. this park will get quite busy on spring weekends with wedding/family photo shoots but just walk around them. there are several swinging seats to sit and rock with the wifey (these will often be occupied). overall, this is our favorite park in st johns county, we come here at least once a month; you should too! read more

Beautiful paved trails, lots of places to sit & have a Picnic, gorgeous views of the Saint Johns River, what else can you ask for? One of my fave outdoor parks since i just moved In town. We went down by the water during low tide & it was super cool to take pics & see all the old trees by the shore, old driftwood & some unlucky tree that fell down but its beautiful still to see & go up to take pics of the park in background. There was a bit of trash by shore, but nothing too bad & some poor smelly fish dead (poor babies) but overall park is super clean (even bathrooms). They have an old plantation house & old farm behind the house as well as a barn that is closed up for now (i believe the county will renovate) its cool to see a lot of history so close to home. They had some citrus trees all around, but the oaks are just incredible, specially on a windy day, the moss just swinging around & the most relaxing sound of the trees swaggering. This park is dog friendly (please pick up your dog poo people!!!) & has a nice area for the kids just by the entrance. A butterfly garden is set up there by an old stable .... it was a bit dead since its winter, I'm sure will be beautiful in spring. My pup enjoyed the trails so much. By the water the pier also is very well kept & has nice views. Perfect place for a fun family day or romantic picnic, i can't wait to go & see a sunset once its warmer. read more

Its one of my favorite locations in Jacksonville to hangout, relax and photograph. There are grills, play area for kids, small butterfly garden, vintage horse stable, woods, gorgeous walkway, small comfortable hike for 2 miles, swings, white cute house, pier and a beautiful sunset. Its a perfect location for kids, family and couple to take pictures. read more

My husband and I were out driving a week ago and stumbled onto this park- it was sunset so the park would be closing soon, so I thought I would just drive through. Well, we hopped out and took a short walk and knew we had to come back for further exploration! Yesterday we returned and was not disappointed! The trees are amazing- live oaks so huge it would take 5-6 adults to "hug" around the tree! Magnolias and Pecan trees too that were so old and huge~ simply breathtaking. The park is on the Julington Creek and has a pier that is covered at the end. It also has a small kayak launch, trails, picnic tables and several historic buildings. The buildings are closed to the public- boarded up or gated off. There seems to be plans for restoring them. This property is an old citrus farm. Seems to be a hot spot for photographers- lots of families, couples and people doing photo shoots on the property. For me, the trees made this park. read more

This park is incredible! We spent most of our time on the playground and walking the trail immediately near it. My child loved the playground. My husband and I enjoyed the views while walking. There is plenty of room for children to explore. The park was clean and very well maintained. Highly recommend! read more
