From there the dog and I cut onto a gravel path that takes you through some nice Wisconsin flora. A few Jack in the Pulpits in the spring, Solomon's Seal, trillium, woodland lilies, bloodroot, mayapple and more. The gravel is nice and compact so my bum ankle feels secure on the path. I value a place I can let my dog off leash without running in front of bikers. It is an easy walk to the Urban Ecology Center or even to North ave. Like the other reviewer, I do see the occasional homeless person (or couple) sleeping in the woods or people getting stoned in the stick huts along the river. But hey, this is a city. I have never felt unsafe or in danger (knock on wood).

While this was a spacious park, I don't think it's worth the daily pass fee of $7. There is a good…read moreamount of parking available and a small pond for people/dogs to play in. Checked out some of the trails but they weren't too well maintained. We primarily stopped by for a beer garden and car show. If you don't pay the fee beforehand online, you'll receive something in the mail about a month later. Surprised they charge this much considering they don't put more into their park. I'd rather check out a different free park in the area, like Whitnall.

I went this past visit with my pup to paddle board- I personally wouldn't go again for this since it really is a pond and the water is a bit stinky and quite yucky! If we would have fallen in the water I would have been so upset so we only did one lap and then I let him play some water fetch. I do love the expanse of trails however and it looks like they have a beer garden set up as well. I'll come back just not for the water portion here

There are 3.5 mi of walking/running trails along water and through a wooded area, I would say there and back. If you like beauty and trail running, it's useful. Also it is home to many birds and animals some of which only reside there. There is a breeding time for frogs and turtles which is a great time to nature hike with kids as well and you would be assured to see many. Dog friendly, required to be on leash during bird breeding and nesting times. Many fish here, I do not. You can canoe or kayak when the water is high enough and it usually is. There is hunting as well but I do not and have never had a problem running on the trail along side hunters. I would say visit. Also Frog Alley Greenhouses is right down the street and has some of the best vegetation for purchase and a lot of information and advice.

Overall pretty easy terrain in my opinion and mostly flat with some small ups and downs. The trails dual as mountain bike trails so be on the lookout as you may need to step aside. I pulled in and got out of my car wondering what I was going to see. There was a cute round stone table with seating, tons of beautiful trees and a very well manicured walking path. Since the day was so lovely, I took my time and enjoyed the solitude. Being a weekday afternoon, I only saw one other couple going for a stroll. There is a map that lays out the walking trail. It consists of a nice big circle approximately a mile long. There is sun and shade on the trail. This was my first visit but I can imagine this trail being gorgeous in all four seasons. I highly recommend visiting here if you are looking for an easy hike that isn't too long or too steep. Next time I'll visit the adjoining Ten Chimneys when it is open.

We loved playing on the playground located on the park too. The only downside of the playground is that it's sandy, which can get a little messy, but our boys loved playing in the sand! Outside of the playground, the park is made up of large green fields to explore and run around. We wandered all around until we found a set of stairs leading down to the lake and takes you right to the beach. The path was so pretty! The lakefront in Chicago is always so busy, it was nice to be right along the water and it be so quiet. Doc Park is a gem!

I love that it's such a vast park, which so much open space to run, picnic, or post up on a blanket with a book. It also happens to have my son's favorite playground around, so he's always requesting we go! Surrounding the play area are plenty of picnic tables where we have seen grill-out type gatherings before. It's on our list to plan a big one with friends this summer. Plus there's a pavilion down one of the paths that has bathrooms and a covered space which comes in handy. Oh and the BEST part? The very best part!? The relaxing and beautiful walk down into the woods that leads your straight to the Milwaukee shoreline. Everytime I walk down I think that it must be the best kept secret because it's never (ever!) busy. Maybe I'll regret telling the community in this post!? The two pathways, be it quite steep, are wide and paved, winding down into the forest. When you get to the water you find the most stunning and serene views. Sometimes I forget how lucky we are to have Lake Michigan attached to our city. There's nothing not to love at Doctors. Get outdoors and enjoy!
