This is the second time I've gone to these guys. This time was because of a cylinder misfiring. I have a Porsche Cayenne. Was in Redlands so went straight to Foreign Auto Tech. They went out of their way to help. They determined the issue - ignition coil needed replacing. They had the part in stock, replaced it, test drove and I got the car back in less than 90 minutes. Do not come here. Slow service and our car still had oil leaking issues afterwards. Customer service is not their forte.

I believe this shop is capable of doing good work. However, my husband and I both noticed that they tend to ignore what I ask them to do and they are very responsive to my husband. They put three transmissions into our Jaguar, the third one worked. They left the cap off when they changed the oil in our Range Rover, we were on a trip and kept smelling oil, finally pulled off the road in Redding and the local dealer discovered what had happened, steam cleaning the engine and filling the oil up. We were late getting to our final destination. When we told the people at foreign auto, they shrugged and said, "Oh well." I stopped in to get new windscreen wipers, asked if they had the right size for the Jag. They assured me they did. When I drove out, $155 later, discovered that they did not have the right size -- it was raining and the wipers didn't clear the rain -- but when I returned they assured me they would get the right size next Monday and I could bring the car back and they would install them at no extra charge! We ordered tires for the Jag, saying specifically that I didn't want a particular tire because it had gotten low consumer ratings. I returned to pick the car up and discovered that they had put the precisely wrong tires on the car. They argued with me about taking the tires off. The girl who worked at the front desk (she's not there anymore), muttered to me, "Make them get the tires you wanted, I heard you tell them you didn't want those tires." The final straw was taking the Range Rover in to have the brakes worked on. We picked the car up and the brakes felt really soft, so we took it back to have them adjusted. Still not happy. We actually took the car back 3 times to have them look at the brakes because they felt soft, we really had to stomp hard to get the car to stop. My brother-in-law drove the car, he noticed it too. Finally took the car to the dealer where we bought it, they discovered that they had put the wrong size disc brake in the car, using a non-factory part. We were told it was a driving hazard. We've found a shop we like in Yucaipa, won't return to Foreign Auto. read more

We've brought our BMWs and Mercedes here for many years. The two other posts are from somebody with some bizarre axe to grind. Their service has always been prompt, reasonably priced and competently performed. It is strange to see someone from N. Calif. who is claiming to be a repeat customer and that rates the service the same as Brian H. Brian clearly is bridging a few factual gaps to reach the conclusion that Foreign Auto Tech is responsible for inappropriate conduct. In all instances, they have bent over backwards to be helpful and courteous. At least fifteen years of my experience have been that Foreign Auto Tech is outstanding in every way. read more

I have been taking my cars to FAT for about twenty years now, a BMW 735i and Mercedes E320. Overall the quality of work has been excellent. I have generally found that if I give them a good description of the symptoms they are able to provide a quick and accurate diagnosis of the problem which is 80% of the work. I can't tell you how frustrating it is to leave a car with someone who can't figure out whats wrong. No one is perfect but they stand behind their work and charge far less than the dealership. If you Have a BMW and you live in or near the Inland empire there is no better place to have your car serviced, repaired or in my case rebuilt. I bought a poor running 1990 325i that was in need of lots of running gear attention. I did my research, I know cars well enough but i am new to the e30. Everything about Foreign Auto tech is impressive. The young Man at the front desk is friendly and helpful. I dealt with Cal the manger and Mo the mechanic. We did an engine swap to a better used M20, replaced every part that wears out like gaskets, hoses, sensors, plugs, wires. we decided to rebuild the head and install a new cam. We did so much more to this car that i am going to list but It runs like it new. Mo installed upgraded parts to give better durability. he suggested other repairs that were in need and always checked with me for approval. His attention to detail is impeccable, he has the knowledge and experience to build you what you want. These guys are Awesome. read more

Scheduled an appointment .... first customer there -- 1 hour and 30 mins for simple oil change. Asked specifically what oil was going to be used prior to giving them my car. They LIED put different oil in car - when questioned said they were all out of oil they had promised - never told me or asked if I was ok with different oil. Went to leave after paying dealership prices for WRONG oil - Now my Service Engine Light is on !!! WTF are they doing to our cars!! Worse off after I brought it in. This shop was horrible!!!!!!! My Mercedes GL450 had problems starting they told me that the key was having problems starting the vehicle so they ordered a new key witch took 2 wks witch they kept the car during this time. The next day after I picked the vehicle up the SAME problem Who wants to stuck at the grocery store with your car not starting!!!!!??? Took it to another shop this time THEY found the real problem bad battery was causing the ignition switch to fail thanks to the other Mercedes shop my vehicle is running fine I will Never!!! We have used Foreign Auto Tech almost since it opened 30 some years ago. It was recommended by a friend who is very particular about the care of his cars. I have since recommended them to many friends. They are all very happy with the service and continue to use them. own a BMW 1979, took it in due to the smog check failed. Was promised they will make diagnosis and inform us why and if anything needed to be replace and how much. They also said the car hasn't been driven often so that might be the cause. After two weeks, they told us 525 dollars will be charged to change oil, spark plugs..ect..and after that it might be ok. By the third week, i called and was told that we will have to pay 614 and still the car is not passing smog check. They insisted to keep the car for another 3 days to "look more into it"....after 3 days, we took the car home paid approx 600 dollars and the car still has not passing smog check. Once they keep the car, they kept on insisting that they will or might be able to fix the problem but they can't and charged a bundle. Will never come back. read more

Very good experience, they saved me thousands of dollars. Basically, I have a BMW 650i with a transmission shifting problem. I sent it to BMW dealer in Ontario and told me that the transmission is bad and must be replaced. That cost around $10K. Two weeks later, I came to this shop and they found fluid leak from the transmission which cost only $600. The car runs great now. I highly recommend this place as they know what they are doing. read more

After the dealer couldn't even figure out what was wrong with my car, I diagnosed it as a head gasket problem (none of the classic symptoms). I had Foreign Auto Tech give my car a cold test, then a chemical test. Sure enough...They "fixed" the head gasket and my car ran for 14,000 miles. The head gasket blew again. I took it in before any overheating and they said sometimes oil in the radiator fluid remains from previous repairs and sent me home. I went back in a week knowing it was a gasket issue. This was past the legally required warranty (6,000 miles). I asked if they would help me out and pay for part of the repeat repair. They offered to fix it a second time for $1800.00. I am still wondering if they replaced the bolts at the time of repair or used old ones, thus allowing for mileage to pile up on the car before repeat gasket failure. I found a guy in Temecula who will guarantee his work for 36,000 miles (unlike the 6,000). I will not be using Foreign Auto Tech again. I am disappointed in the service and frankly, I don't have $1800 to put into my car every 14,000 miles. read more
