Fordyce Farm is a family owned farm that has U Pick fields that you can pick throughout the seasons. While visiting Oregon during October last year, my husband and I stopped at this farm to pick apples because that is a tradition I like to do every fall. What was a nice surprise was that not only were there a few different types of apples (5 actually on the day we visited), along with Asian pears. The Asian pears we did pick were sweet and crisp. However, they seemed to have ripen very quickly so I would recommend eating those quickly if you do pick them and bring them home (we had to toss a few away since they had gone bad). This farm is a lot bigger than I had expected. We enjoyed walking around. There was a maze that was still set up that we walked through and saw a coloring area for children. There was also a large pumpkin patch and numerous of gourds to purchase, with different sizes to choose from. Also there a few small food items that you can purchase (coffee, hot chocolate, apple cider by the gallon, various baked goods, pie, ice cream and milk shakes). There are 2 unisex restrooms, but did need some attending during our visit. Overall, Fordyce Farm is a nice farm and worth a visit if you are visiting Salem, Oregon. read more

Went there in October for the corn maze and other fall activities. We really enjoyed the cider slushie, very refreshing, the best I've had. The staff recommended pumpkin chocolate bread which was also very good. It was a bummer that their cider donut machine was broken. read more

I don't have a lot of experience at you-pick farms, but Fordyce Farms exceeded my expectations. The facilities were clean and neat, with a store of local goods, potted plants, cut flowers, baked pastries, and more. There's a covered place to picnic, a clean restroom, and playground for the kids. We went in mid-July and were able to pick boysenberries, blueberries, raspberries, golden raspberries (my favorite!), kotatas (blackberries), three colors of currants, and more. We left with far more berries than we could eat, but it was so much fun that it was worth every penny. As I mentioned, we are novices at farm picking and the staff was friendly and helpful. We felt right at home on their farm. They even held our first haul in the refrigerator for us while we went out for more. Overall, this was a highlight to our trip to Oregon. read more

Pumpkin patch as a whole is average. A few play areas for the kids that are nice. Not a great place if you are hoping to take fun photographs. Most likely won't be going back. Last year we went on a Sunday & arrived just before opening. We couldn't get into the parking lot because we were about 10 minutes early, along with about 15 other cars...which created a dangerous situation, with cars lined up on the sides of the road. Today the lot was completely full & overflowing. We got stuck, along with another car at the end of the narrow lot and had to back out onto the main road. I'm sure weekdays are quieter & parking isn't such a bitch. But this patch isn't worth dealing with a much too tiny and narrow parking area. read more

Fordyce Farm has really gone above and beyond for their summer and fall seasons. Recently visited their pumpkin patch and I was amazed at how many activities were available for both kids and adults. The apple cider donuts were a hot commodity as supply was quickly bought out. I had to wait about 10-15 minutes before another fresh Half dozen was available and I would do it again!! The Apple cider donuts were delicious and definitely worth the wait. The shop offers a variety of fresh produce, locally sourced food items, and a variety of menu options. The traveling tap cart at Fordyce was the cherry on top of my whole experience, this tap cart offered a variety of tasty beers and ciders. The peach cider was my favorite. I will be coming back to Fordyce Farms before autumn is over! read more

I hadn't been to a you pick in years. The strawberry patch and green bean farm can't hold a candle to the blackberry and blueberries at the Fordyce Farm The berries were amazingly plump easy to reach and delicious. We also got delicious pies, giant cosmic crisp and honey crisp apples at the store This place is not far from Salem and well worth the drive. Stock up on the berries before they go out of season. The berries are $1.60 a quart!! You can pick a quart in less than 10 minutes I can't that good a price anywhere else! read more

What a great u-pick farm within 20 minutes from downtown Salem. The store sells baked goods (the raspberry and blueberry scones were our favorites), picked berries, potted outdoor plants and much more. This is also where you get your containers weighed before picking berries and where you get your berries weighed after picking. Mary who works in the store was very sweet and helpful in explaining the differences between boysenberries and kotatas, currants, and gooseberries. She also gave advice on whether the berries were better eaten raw or in baked goods. The only drawback is the parking lot is small. read more

My only refrain is to not share the best secret, but this is a legacy worth sharing. Farmer fordyce has built this farm up to what it is now with his own two hands and his loving family. The whole family takes part in all seasons and their baked goods in the store front are incomparable. But most notably they do not over use pesticides. They use a variety of alternative deterrents such as sun reflectors, bird noises to scare off other birds, and even grow in green houses. They seasonally have strawberries, blueberries, raspberries, black berries, pears, apples, pumpkins and more. They also have hay stack, corn maze, hay bales under covered area to play, coloring and pumpkin patch for September-October. They also have a year round play ground complete with covered table swings slide rock wall stairs for easy access and a tractor. Can't go wrong here and am a lifetime subscriber. read more

Had a great experience with my son here this morning. There were multiple free things for a small kid to do since it's harvest festival time. My son liked playing on the playground, going down the hay pyramid slide, and going through the hay maze. We got some freshly baked scones and I highly recommend them. It's not a huge place but definitely check it out if you are looking for something to do with your child in October. So nice of them to offer this for free and if we return I'll make sure to buy some more tasty treats. read more

Don't buy the pre-picked flats. All the berries were unripe and sour. Total waste of time and money being across town. They top them with a few ripe ones so they look like a good flat but it's just a deception. So sour and non-edible. Pricey too for $39. read more

We had a great time at their pumpkin patch today. The kids had a blast, especially on the hay pyramid, with its little hobbit holes. What a great spot! The people working were so, so kind and accommodating, and answered all of my questions. The bushes were LOADED. The store is cute - we got a scone which was really good and a few other little treats we haven't yet tried. Love that there is a bathroom, too. I've eaten scones in a number of countries, but the ones from Fordyce Farms are the best I've ever had! The rest of their baked goods are amazing, not to mention they take special orders. The atmosphere is welcoming and a great place to buy a dish of homemade ice cream (try the coffee- it's delicious) and eat it while sitting on their patio in the summer! First time visit today. Called first to see if strawberries were available and was glad to hear yes they were. Paid for a crate and got home to find the berries were all going to seed mostly dried out and under the top layer of each hallock the berries were the size of small grapes. Shame on them for selling these berries to anyone without full disclosure. Won't be visiting there again. There are too many honest farmers in the area I'd rather buy from. read more

I think one can probably get a one star experience all the way to a 5 star experience here depending on what day one goes and what one buys. We had a 1 star day today, unfortunately. Unfortunately for us and for Fordyce as it's resulted in a review I wish I wasn't inspired to write. The four of us left Silverton after a pleasant enough lunch and thought some ice cream somewhere would be a nice followup. My wife and I were up from Sacramento visiting local Salem friends who remembered the Fordyce ads. We were close by so we found the place and went in. The fruit and baked goods all looked nice but they were advertising home-made ice cream on the board; a bowl for $2.65. I asked the girl at the counter how big a bowl was and she said, " 5 scoops"! Perhaps that should have been a tip off but greedy as I am for ice cream, I thought it sounded like a good deal. We ordered three bowls of the five flavors offered. Bottom line: either I don't know what ice cream is, or whoever made these batches doesn't. Being as I once made home-made ice cream for 30 every week for a couple years in my youth, I'm pretty sure I am familiar with how it is supposed to taste and feel. I had a couple bites and started to feel bad, as did my companions. We dumped the bowls in the can at the outside table. That was stupid, I admit, as I later realized I could probably have traded for a decent piece of pie. Oh, well. Fordyce: Puleeze make sure whoever is cranking out your ice cream knows what they are doing. And if they are using whole cream, that is a problem; it should be half and half. But that can't be the entire problem with those recipes. read more

Our car had broken down after we went to the pumpkin patch and the owner was so gracious and sweet -- she made sure we had help on the way and offered us free apples and water while we waited for our help to come. The employees were also very sweet and helpful (as were other customers -- thank you all!). We've started a tradition of going here for our pumpkins and will definitely continue after the special treatment they gave us. Truly appreciate the kindness. :) read more
