I celebrated my birthday dinner here on a Tuesday evening. The vibe was quiet because it was a week night but I enjoyed the attentive service. The food was all seasoned extremely well and the hit was the pork chops. The cocktails were yummy but could be stronger. Overall a great time will return! read more

Great ambiance. you can definitely take great pictures here. Service was not great, but it probably was the place packed, and our table was late with ppl showing up at different times..our bad.. the Jelea was the greatest thing I ate, and the tower at $55 was the right choice for drinks read more

Service was poor, sat on chairs that were broken and they refused to switch them out for different chairs. Food was clearly frozen. When asked if we could have our burger cooked medium they reported it's only cooked one way. Ambiance feels more like a nightclub setting that just happens to sell food. read more

went for dinner, wait staff seemed bothered that there was actually something to do. passed on sittiing in a swing to eat. tried to of the house specialty drinks; one tasted like scope mouth wash and can't even describe the other. had to wash those down with water from the plastic cups the give you. now the food; the kind word i'll use to explain it is: TERRIBLE. and not cheap. place was very disappointing. maybe it's a good night club but dinner sucked. edit: the drinks were: the vaccine and the machu pichu (the scope one) both very pretty but tasted terrible. read more

I wanted to love it but couldn't. We arrived close to 8pm on a Saturday and it wasn't packed. The atmosphere is nice, music and good vibes. Our server was great! We ordered the chicken empanada, 2/10. It was chicken in a can, not fresh chicken and not much seasoning either. Then we ordered the Arroz Chaufa and Arroz Chaufa de Mariscos, it was SALTY. I don't mean seasoned, I mean SALTY, we couldn't taste anything else. The moment it hit my lips I instantly had a headache. We had to send both dishes back and requested no soy sauce and it came back salty but just a tad bit less. We could t eat it and boxed it to go. Maybe it was one of those nights but won't be going back. If you have a hypertension or sensitive to salty food, I would not recommend. (I am not sensitive to salt nor hypertensive) read more

Food and ambiance were great!!! Service (waiter) Lomo Saltadowas good but I recommend that when food is order that we all get serve at the same time. My sister and I ordered the same dish and hers took an hour and a half to come out. And she was not the only one that had a late dinner, our party was of 20 and some waited longer to get food. read more

Being from Middletown, I'm always very excited when a new business pops up on Main Street. After doing research on it, I was a bit nervous because it seemed way too "clubby" and not a place I would feel like I belonged in. I'm so happy I decided to pop in with a group of friends! We went for dinner service and it was quiet, not too full, the food was incredible, and our server Samantha was attentive, so patient and lovely to work with. I think this is a great addition to my town with something for everyone. I'm looking forward to returning! read more

Food was delicious. Service was phenomenal. Ambiance is def very loud but we enjoyed it and knew that going in.

Have been here twice in the past week. The margaritas are delicious but service has rivaled the worst I've ever experienced. Tonight everything took far too long and it wasn't busy at all. We felt ignored overall. Also, they charged us double the price of the advertised $6 margarita special. I explained after the first margarita that I can't drink sour mix because of stomach aches. I asked for just the tequila for the 2nd round but the waiter brought me a 2nd margarita and said there was "just a little" sour mix in this one. I got another stomach ache. Even getting the bill and giving them money took way too long. Tonight was just an awful experience. If you want to try, avoid Monday nights. read more

Ahhh this place is SO MUCH FUN! A group of us went to celebrate a birthday, and it was the perfect local spot to do so. You feel like you're in a club in Miami! The staff was excellent and extremely friendly. I also have to give them a lot of credit because they must have danced to and sung Happy Birthday at least ten times in the few hours we were there. The food was excellent and the drinks were strong! Highly recommend it for a fun night out. If you are looking for something quiet and intimate, however, this is not the spot for you. read more

This review will only make sense and be appreciated for those who are at least 4o to 50 years of age... I Step in Friday we have a party of 6. The host asked for my parties reservation name, and I told him there isn't any. The host apologized and said they were only taking reservations. I gave him a little pushback bc they're site makes no mention of it being a reservations, only establishment. I then asked how longer before a table becomes available. He stated 35mints. LOL So I suggested can we have drinks at the bar and wait?! With a huge surprised look on his face he said yes of course you can do that. I asked if I could speak to the manager, just because I couldn't believe that he was going to let six people walk out on a Friday night. He shared with me that he was a manager ( this place going to hell in a basket) Then he said there is a table available but there's a party coming in for 10pm. It was 745!!! I said we will take the damn table LOL that's a little over 2hrs. Our waitress was nice and very accommodating, so our tip was at %20 hey. We ordered drinks and that took FOREVER still no silverware in our table not even water was offered. The apps came and the portions were tiny enough to satisfy a five year old. Not only were the actual size of the food small AF the portions were also minimal. My Gray Goose with a splash of lime was absolutely NOT Goose No Way in hell LOL I did not eat and our party decided the appetizers were enough to drive us away from ordering dinner. The place looks cute and hip and if it's your birthday they come out with these cute electric signage that makes for a cute Insta Gram Pic. But other than that, I Will NOT revisit this location. Bye! read more

Forbidden Llama is a beautiful place. The decor is very modern and great for parties and girls nights. I found the place on Tik Tok presented as a restaurant. So to my surprise when I headed there on a Saturday expecting the city vibes type of lounge experience we were instead left in the cold while the security decided who they wanted to let in. Once he said it was ok for me and my two friends we were searched and charged a $10 cover charge. At this point as long as I got to sit down I was forgiving. We headed to what seemed like an empty bench area and one of the workers rudely said NO we "absolutely" could not sit down because all the tables were spoken for. He said we could stand by the bar. The bar was FULL to capacity. The bartenders were purposefully ignoring me and my friends and others. The place was PACKED with a mixed crowd. People were genuinely eating their meals and the place was packed with people just standing around. I'm talking clubbing over someone's rice dinner. Now I was convinced it was a club and not a restaurant. My friends and I headed to the bar to grab the famous drinks they promoted and was told they "don't make those drinks after 10" even though they closed at 2am. The bartender said we could get vodka in a cup and no food or appetizers....that was enough we headed out. A week later I decided to give it another go and made reservations for a table in advance. I got three confirmations and reminder from the restaurant of the reservation. My friend got there a few mins before I did and called and said the man at the door said we did not have a reservation. I sent over confirmation of all three confirmations and my friend said no one was there so he sat us. I assume if people were there he would not honor my reservation. Completely unprofessional. Our waitress however was amazing. Very attentive and helpful. The drinks were great and food was hot and flavorful. Things were worth the second trip until the bill came. My friend and I split the bill down the middle to what came up to $86 and $81. Something was off. $18 entree, $15 drink, and another $14 Drink....even w taxes that wasn't $80. I even noticed when she was swiping $71 at the top plus $12.54 and asked if that was gratuity to which she said no it was taxes and me a bit tipsy didn't consider CT taxes aren't THAT high. Anyway she took both payments and did not offer a receipt but wanting to be sure before leaving cash on the table we asked for our receipts. Low and behold there was 18% gratuity on the receipts for just us two. Biased asf if you ask me and definitely not restaurant etiquette as the auto gratuity is for parties of 6 or more. My friend had also left a $11 tip on her card assuming she was paying taxes not gratuity, which was a $20 tip plus the $12.54 on mine plus the $10 I had on the table. They were very annoyed we asked for the receipts and the sweet fun personalities disappeared even though we didn't ask for our money back. Glad I at least got to experience it once. But never again!! That's what Tik Tok does to places, makes them overly popular and they're not always prepared or respectable enough to handle the surge. I would give them a 1 for both experiences but the evening was going great until that happened. Never again !! read more

Food was excellent, drinks were excellent, service was excellent! Thank you Samantha for being so attentive and friendly!

Ordered wings and they had no flavor! Plain fried wings.. I asked for sauce and they had none. The food was either too salty or too bland no in between. This place is all hype. The seats were way low for the tables as well, felt like I was sitting on an IKEA chair with an overly tall table. Would not recommend. read more

Owner too preoccupied with aesthetics, social media, and night life than actual service. Also, as a former restaurant/club waitress I know it's important to have beautiful waitresses that LOOK the part. But don't just have someone who looks the part but doesn't know how to be a waitress. The young platinum blonde girl, white nails, eyelash extensions, I didn't get her name. She obviously looks the part for this type of restaurant. But, that's where it ends. She needs training. Also, if you work at a restaurant that serves Latino food, you should kind of know what a ceviche is and also the word "picante" means. I asked for my ceviche to not be picante. Her face told me she didn't know what that meant. So I said "that means not Spicy". I told my friends "I bet she's going to still bring it spicy bc I don't think she understood". I was right. It was spicy. Mistakes happen I understand. Could've been an easy fix. Called her over told her what the problem was, I know she didn't understand anything I said. She got her manager to come and ask me what the problem was as if I didn't just tell her. When they finally got the ceviche right, it tasted good. She then proceeded to ignore me the rest of the night. When she came to check back only spoke to and looked at the other side of the table not me or my partner. It was not subtle. If a customer orders something, and you are unsure, JUST ASK for clarification. But she seemed clueless and annoyed. Instead of asking she walked away with my food and got the owner/manager to come talk for her - like she was a child. This is what happens when you hire ppl just for looks but have nothing going on upstairs Also, be aware- when they bring the food someone comes with a camera to record with the flash on. It was awkward and the whole table was uncomfortable. We weren't asked or told about this. read more

Was overcharged. Called to fix error and told to call again tomorrow. Called again as requested, was given attitude and then ignored. Management will take it personally when you point out an error and are unwilling to fix small issues. They're not running the business for the long run. read more

Made a reservation on yelp. Reservation was not taken at the restaurant. We stood there for 30 mins waiting for an open table, there were people sitting at tables once others got up after paying before an employee could clear the table. There was a table no one showed up for their reservation the employee told us that tables were for reservations and cost $200 if we wanted an open table to eat and that the menu was very small. Not to mention we already had paid to get in $10 each. Avoid this place at all costs unless you just want a drink standing up at the bar. Totally ruined our date night! Also, the videos online make the place look more entertaining than it really is. This is a restaurant not a club. They just squeeze a dj in a corner. read more

Reservation system is trash. Charged me after trying to cancel within 5 mins of reservation. Terrible customer service.

Saturday rainy midday, bar empty Agee tables taken. Lots of staff, owner very attentive, ordered wine, white not chilled, nice Cabernet, big pours. Menu is only accessed on line, a bit awkward but easy. Food was great, got Peruvian 'sushi' done just right great sauce. Wings were some of the best we've had in Middletown. We were the first group in after the parade and your servers were already a wreck. We waited nearly 30 minutes to order while they ran in circles. When they finally asked for our order we said ONE drink before they walked away, without hearing the rest of the order. Then proceeded to add our drink to our friends tab and charged them instead of doing separate tabs. We sat down at a table taken aback by that. After a few minutes of trying to understand how that made sense we went back up to order the rest of our planned drinks/food. Also your chicken is DRY. You are trying to be hip and a nice "bar" but you aren't succeeding. If I could give zero stars - I would. read more

Went to this restaurant tonight for the first time. The ambience is nice but the food and drink quality is very poor. We ordered the calamari which was very overcooked to the point that my teeth hurt chewing it, had to send it back. The cosmopolitan drinks were pure juice thought it was just me but my friend ordered the same drink and definitely agreed. We ended up sending back all the food tonight and went to esca restaurant were we finally received good quality food and drinks that night. Went to the Forbidden Llama this past Saturday for the first time after seeing much videos and photos on social media. The location in downtown Middletown was probably one of the good things going for it. Upon entering the venue looks like it is meant to be for nightlife and not really for the dining scene. Music was ridiculously loud and you couldn't even have a conversation with the person sitting across from you. The service was rather slow and not attentive to the tables. The food and drinks were bit on the expensive side for what you are getting. Hopefully they're able to find their true identity instead of trying to live a double lifestyle since it is catered more to the nightlife and not the upscale dining scene. read more

I want to preface this by saying this is not our waiter's fault. He was great. But our experience wasn't unfortunately. I only saw two waiters running for every table in the place, so service understandably took a hit. Drinks took 47 minutes to arrive. Waiter was MIA so couldn't even order food until they came back with our drinks. Food took an additional hour to arrive. By the time food arrived, mine was missing. Was told mine was on its way. Waited another hour before a plate that I did not order arrived. When I told the waiter this was not my order, he offered to run another order to remedy the issue, but at this point, I was not about to wait another hour to eat and keep everyone else in my party waiting. Honestly this place has potential but I would not recommend it. I am sympathetic to the staff for doing their best, but from an organizational standpoint, this place failed too many times in a row for this to be an anomaly. Clearly they lack the organization and discipline to properly serve their customers. Can't even comment on the food since I did not get to eat, but the rest of my party was not impressed. If you are willing to wait, or have a nice podcast that you can kill an hour with, I recommend the pisco sour. Otherwise, please don't waste your time. They are more concerned with creating Instagrammable backdrops and birthday shout outs to provide decent service. Again, I cannot comment on food as mine never arrived, but secondhand, my peers were not impressed. If I could leave 0 stars I would.  Ps. Bathroom had no soap or paper towels??? Do they expect people not to  wash their hands??? 2nd ps. They charged us for the food they did not bring me. Please do not bother with this place..... read more

Ever since they opened up a few months ago, I was so excited to give this place a try. The music & decoration looked so fun, and the drinks they advertised looked delicious. Even the manager was nice & friendly when he first opened up and would give us tours around the venue to look at what they offered and get excited. I finally got the opportunity to come by last night and was disturbed by a few things: firstly, they charged a $20 per person cover charge to enter into the establishment when there wasn't even anyone there yet. It was 11pm and we paid our covers and then were a little confused why there weren't many people inside and the people who WERE there were still eating dinner & the lights were still bright. Why charge a cover entry like a club would when it's still very clearly a restaurant? We approached the extremely messy bar, waited to be served, and all of the bartenders were just standing around on their phones or chatting amongst each other. After waiting for a while, we just ended up leaving because no one was even dancing, everyone was just sitting around eating, at 11pm! The manager told us before we left that it starts to get more fun the later it gets but it was already almost midnight at that point and this is Connecticut... Maybe I'll try coming back for brunch or a dinner reservation instead but definitely not coming back to pay a $20 cover to stand around. read more
