Customer Service--the definition of great customer service is Foothill Cyclery! My journey with them started over 10 years ago when I was looking for a place to service my Rad Rover e-bike. I first took it to CBO (it was downhill from my house) but they stuck their noses up in the air--they were not going to work on a silly ebike! I rode over to Foothill, and talked with the staff there about what I wanted to do, and they were happy to help me. About $1000 later my Rad was super Rad, and Foothill had a customer for life. Since then I have literally spent THOUSANDS of dollars there--purchased 4 bikes (so far) from them and a whole slew of accessories--all because Josh and the staff were willing to talk to an e-bike kook. No matter how crazy an idea I have for my bikes, the gang there will listen, weigh out the pros and cons of my decision (many times saving me from myself), and then execute! Nice big store with lots of inventory of everything and all kinds of bikes. But if you are looking for BIKE RENTAL beware. If you plan to rent but are riding on a Sunday or Wednesday then make other plans. The shop is closed on Sun and Wed and you will be charged for the days that the shop is closed. In other words, if you pick up the bikes at closing on Saturday and want to ride Sunday and then return the bikes in less than 24 hours you will be screwed. You will have to pay for 48 hours because the shop is closed. So even though you are not riding the bike Sunday afternoon - Monday, and the shop is not able to rent the bike during that time, you will be charged for it. If you want to rent a bike over a Sunday or Wednesday I recommend you contact Art's Cyclery near downtown. read more

Had a great experience renting an e-mountain bike from Foothill Cyclery. Bike was in perfect condition and the staff was really helpful. My daughter is not as excited about mountain biking as the rest of the family so the e-bike option was a great idea so that we could all enjoy the trails together. We are not from the area. The staff at the shop was really helpful recommending a trail that was suitable for our whole family. They knew all about the trails in the area and we had a great time!!! They took extra time to make sure my daughter was fitted to the bike and knew how to operate the electric boost. This is a great shop. So when I attended Cal Poly before yelp, like over two decades ago, I bought various parts for a road bike, later a mountain bike bought there, including tires, inner tubes, tools, etc.... I have always received great service and advice there. Even with a recent visit, I bought spare inner rubes and a tire, after destroying back tire on Poly Canyon. When you visit there, there are some tools and a floor pump near the front door available for you to use. Sales people are prompt and found me the items I needed since I was 250 miles away from my home base. Even over the span of two decades, it's still the same and part of the reason I still visit this shop. read more

We were very clear about our needs, 2 ebikes for gently sloping and flat dirt roads on a ranch. I was quoted $2,300 each and pd a deposit. When I picked them up 4 days later, I was charged $2,700 each. (I agreed to pay the correct price). When we got the bikes home, we took them out of the truck and rode 1 bike up a dirt road for approx 10 min. The ride was so bumpy, I deemed it somewhat dangerous and certainly not pleasant. The headlight rattled off the handlebars and the bike made sounds like something was mechanically off balance, so I walked the bike back to the truck. Never road bike #2. When I returned the bikes, I was charged $500 restocking fee! Based on the fact that I was very clear about my needs and the fact that the bike seemed to be rattling apart during the first 10 min ride, I feel this is totally unreasonable. So, if you buy a bike from this company, I highly recommend test driving it before you buy. My test drive cost me $500. read more

I rented a bike online from Foothill (Trek road bike). and the process was simple. I showed up, bike got minor adjustments, pedals and off I went. The local shop pro was kind enough to direct me to a couple local rides that would give me a good work out and some sweet pretty views - both didn't disappoint. WOW - I don't even know where to start. I walked in to Foothill Cyclery with my brother who had just had his bike tire stollen. So needless to say he was in a low place not very happy with the cards he was delt that day. We were greeted by Josh and from there our whole day just shifted... in the best way possible. Josh has a quick whit and inviting pretense about him. He began to tell us a story that I will never, ever forget. It made my brother and I laugh so hard... I'm still laughing about it. He was real. We just bought a Yuba cargo bike from them and from start to finish, I loved every bit of the experience. I worked with Josh over the phone to first order the bike and all the accessories we wanted included. He helped me get parts that were backordered and was quick to inform me if there was an item he couldn't get. He checked in often about the bike and they held onto it for an extra week or so to assemble a part that didn't come till later and I greatly appreciated that. When we drove up from Santa Barbara on a Saturday, we got to the shop and both guys at the front were helpful and knowledgeable. We had no idea what the bike would be like size wise, so we didn't have any straps on hand and the guy let us borrow some tie downs (he actually was letting us take them but we wanted to return them) so we could go to the nearest hardware store to purchase some of our own. I would 100% make the 1.5 hr drive to buy a bike from them again. I love when people love their jobs because they make the shops atmosphere that much more pleasant and you could tell everyone we worked with loved their jobs. read more

Really great bike shop in SLO. Excellent customer service beginning to end. I called them to see if they had any Hybrids in stock and they did so I drove 3 hours to get one. When I arrived they were busy but acknowledged my presence and said they would be with me in a few minutes (totally get it as all bikes shops!). The girl that ended up helping me out was super nice. She let us ride it behind the store which was nice. They also checked it out before letting me take it home. I came here with my boyfriend to rent my first mountain bike! My boyfriend is an avid mountain-biker and I thought I'd join him one day. Seeing as bikes are crazy expensive, renting one seemed like the best option. The staff here were awesome. They taught me about the bike and gave me all the gear I could possibly need. The bikes available for rent are demos and are some of the best of the best bikes available. I paid about $50 for a half day ride. I don't have anything to compare this too but considering how much the bikes are worth (upwards of 2-4K), the cost seemed reasonable. It is definitely an expensive sport but so much fun. read more

We've wanted to replace one vehicle with an ELECTRIC BIKE for a long time. Several ebikes were tried up our 500' 25% grade driveway here in SLO but all required significant effort and I was out of breath by the time I reach the house. No way would I be willing to do this several times a day while retrieving the morning newspaper, doing chores, errands, visiting friends and family or attending meetings in town. I had almost given up. Finally, I tested and purchased a Trek Powerfly 5. With my trifecta of being 71, 250Lbs, and with a 25% grade several times a day, I needed the right bike. The Powerfly 5 is it. That said, I am still keeping my Trek Domane as my road bike of choice but selling my truck.
