Ogunquit beach has a very gradual slope which makes it perfect for long walks - you don't get the feeling that you are walking on a slant. It's absolutely gorgeous, with large sandy expanses, especially at low tide. There are often flocks of sandpipers, which I love to watch as they run so quickly over the sand and search for food. Ogunquit Beach is especially nice in the off season - the crowd spreads out over the area so you never feel as if people are on top of you like you might in the peak season. There is a parking lot that is free from November-March, and you can also easily walk to the beach from in town. Next to the parking lot there is a covered area with chairs and benches which are perfect for just relaxing by the ocean. There are also a couple of restaurants, a snack bar, a beach store, and an ice cream shop very close by.

Perkins Cove gets really busy on summer weekends, so there wasn't any parking in the lot. We did see that our spot was open and asked if we could just park there for 2 hours before we checked in. Within 2 minutes we got a response that we could check in. This was great news since we were traveling with a 1.5 year old that needed to rest. The location is absolutely beautiful. It's very peaceful at night. During the day the cove is buzzing with activity. There were plenty of places to grab food from just by walking out the front door. There is also a trolly that runs every 20-30 minutes during the summer that will go to the main beach which is super convenient. The space had everything we could need. They had all the kitchen amenities you would need to prepare meals. A tv in every room and a washer and dryer. The unit was fully stocked. We absolutely loved the place and our vacation. A few things to note, during the day the cove is very busy during the summer. This comes with loud tourists. We could also hear the kids in the unit below us running through their rental and crying at night. We were in the Seaside Serenity 2, which is on the top of the building. You will have to carry everything up 2 flights of stairs. We were not bothered by this and will definitely be back.

Now,…read moreI am married and have three sons and we owned an adorable cottage on Post Road in Wells, Maine. The only problem was they did not allow fires in the evenings so my children were inside playing video games or watching TV once the mosquitoes came out to play around 6 PM. This past summer, my husband and I decided we don't want "cottage kids" we want "camping kids." We sold our cottage, bought a camper, and found the perfect home and Moody Beach Campground with manager Rick and his team. I don't know where to begin with the compliments for Rick and his entire staff. They are helpful, kind, friendly, loving, and they made us feel like we belong to part of the family that has been created at this amazing campground. Examples of this include, when I had packages delivered directly to the campground, because our primary home is in Washington DC, I was either notified about the packages immediately or they were literally dropped off at my site. Another example is when my new babysitter was NOT watching my young toddlers, two and three years old, swimming with floaties in the pool, instead she was on her cell phone texting. One of the cleaning people, brought it to my attention on the QT and I cannot thank her enough because ultimately she could've saved my children's lives by giving me this information. I was so PROUD to have guests come to my site to experience the family like atmosphere that Moody Beach Campground provides. At night, someone literally drives around in the golf cart dropping off/selling wood for people who need it. They have hayrides around the clock during the weekends. They also have a bus that takes you to the beach which is a little over a mile up the street and will pick you up at the beach to take you back. Not to mention, there are a ton activities for the kids, and amazing playground, a huge super clean pool, and the list goes on and on!! In conclusion, if you are looking for a place to call "HOME" for the summer or simply home for a weekend, or a week or two, look no further!!! If I were ever to hit the lottery for millions of dollars I would give a huge chunk to Rick (and Christy - she's sooooo awesome, and his entire team, especially the loving and friendly women who clean the cottages) because he is every camper's dream-come-true manager!!! Who goes there for hiking? Well, if you ever tire of the shore line and galleries, the GWLT (Great Works Regional Land Trust) Old Boston Preserve is a fine antidote and counterpoint. Blazed just a year or so ago, this new trail and nature preserve is easy to hike, easy to follow, and easy on the eyes. It features a couple of loops and leads you to vernal pools, impressive glacial boulders, old stone walls, a historic cemetery (the OG Boston family? Of Beantown fame? Maybe...), and the Boston family's farmhouse foundations. It's a great little trail to stretch the legs and a good springboard to explore the other GWLT trails in the area (as well as seeing a bit of Ogunquit outside of the typical tourist routes!).

Ogunquit can get crowded, traffic is ridiculous and while there are sidewalks along route 1, it's not always ideal when you have little ones. Also there was dried up soap imprint on the sink. The end table had rings from a drinking glass or bottle on it.The rug was filthy.It was not even vacuumed because I found a bobby pin on the rug!No tissue in the room .We did tell the front desk person ,but just apologized. wanted us to change rooms but we were only there for 1 night. And I had already cleaned the room at this point.Live and learn. The only good thing was the Ice machine had plenty of Ice!Never AGAIN!

It's less than 25 minutes to get to a white sand beach to dock / swim / walk. The water was crystal clear and not too deep! I don't know the gentleman's name who delivers and picks up the kayaks but he was super knowledgeable about the area and gave great directions! Super fun activity right from the campground for under $100!

The man we spoke to recommended we go in the afternoon because of the tides, so that's what we did. It was a perfect afternoon! We got a few tandem kayaks and the parents, grandparents and kids all had fun! We paddled to a few little islands and Wood Island, and had a nice walk out to the lighthouse. All in all a beautiful Maine afternoon. Highly recommend this activity- would definitely go again!
