Overall this is a cute, level free beach with people spacing themselves out nicely. However I got here at 9am on a saturday and the beach had tire and rake marks on it so it was cleaned. Yet it us dirty. I put my chair down in a clean spot but im still surrounded by trash. See pics. The town needs to do better w cleaning their beach. I did not walk barefoot. Its a nice spot for families and you get one hours beachfront parking for $1. Arcade and bowling will satisfy the kiddies. Tshirt and gift shops for the parents. Plenty of places to eat. Plus the bathrooms are cleaned often by onsite staff.

Was at Long Sands Beach this week and I have a few issues to let you know so you are aware before you go. The beach at the end of Long Sands beach (south end) there are huge rocks that the town put in at bottom of new concrete breaker steps which are painful to walk over and there is only 1 handicap parking at the north end that we saw. There are no ramps for wheelchairs or handicapped persons to use in the southern part of this beach either. Not sure if there are any at any beaches up here. Then there are the parking kiosks that rip people off and there is no phone numbers on the machine to call if you have any problems. We inserted 2 - $5.00 bills and only 1 was recognized.. so we canceled the parking and of course only 1 bill was returned. No contact numbers on machine. Same issue in the York beach store area except it was 2- $1.00 bills which only 1 was recognized and when we continued anyway, the connection of machine failed and we received no parking receipt and no refund. Unbelievable!! This is unfair to tourists who don't have permits. So, if you are going to stay here for any amt of time, you might consider getting a parking permit so you don't have to deal with kiosks that are basically robbing the tourists.

Large beach near many attractions. Great for family all day and for dinner. Playground is right on the beach.

Great beach area with street parking. There are coffee, surf, and sandwich shops right on the beach. Super cool places to stay too.

Once you cross the bridge, the beach is very close. The sand is nice and the water is cold. The bathrooms were tight but it's at the front by parking. If you go at noon during a busy summer season, be prepared to wait. Wish there was food vendors for some snacks. So make sure to bring your own drinks/food. There is a lobster shack at the end of the road but looks like a hassle to walk to.

Let's just say, folks kept at least 12' from the person next to them, in front of them, behind them, etc so my mood was further lifted. In keeping with the summer vibe, I didn't want to leave Maine without stepping foot at a beach. But I also wanted our beach outing to be a healthy one and more importantly- safe without people hovering all over me. Ogunquit Beach was our initial visit- but the parking lot was jam-packed so was the sand area. We took off and a short drive later, came here. $25 to park and masks required walking on ramps. Folks in front of us kept a noticeable distance- but there were folks behind us and next to us who weren't nearly distant enough for me to make me want to stay more than the 45 minutes we were here. But I will say, there are restrooms, outdoor showers, beach is well kept, and the water....oh man....the water looked like sapphire. Under (real) normal circumstances, I would've had my fill of beach time, then head out for Lobsters. Just one of those was achieved.

I guess I'm just used to all the garbage and crowds along the Jersey Shore. The only downside is that parking is a bit pricey, at $20 a pop. But if you are an early bird and can make it there before I think either 8 or 9, then parking is only $5. Since we came on a Tuesday (at around noon), there weren't much people around, which was super nice. The weather for that day was only forecasted at the low 70s with some clouds, but it turned out to be a great beach day. It was warm, but not sweltering. Warm enough to go in the water - but only if you're brave. The water was icy cold. But after a while, you just become numb and don't even notice it (lol). There aren't really any waves but there is a very strong current so you definitely don't want to mess around with that. I never went out further than past my stomach, especially since I don't swim very well. Even just standing there with the water up to my waist, I could feel the currents pulling me. The best part of this beach is that it's only a 20-minute drive from Portland. We were visiting for the week and staying in Downtown, and didn't want to drive far to get to a beach so Ferry Beach was perfect for us. If I lived in the area, I would totally get a season pass.
