Ogunquit Beach is a wide stretch of soft white sand. The…read morehistoric downtown area is filled with charming local shops, great spots to eat, and classic New England buildings. Walking along the scenic Marginal Way cliff path gives you breathtaking views of the crashing waves below. It is a wonderful, lively destination for a relaxing getaway by the sea. The welcoming coastal vibe makes it a place you will want to visit over and over again.

Ogunquit beach has a very gradual slope which makes it perfect for long walks - you don't get the feeling that you are walking on a slant. It's absolutely gorgeous, with large sandy expanses, especially at low tide. There are often flocks of sandpipers, which I love to watch as they run so quickly over the sand and search for food. Ogunquit Beach is especially nice in the off season - the crowd spreads out over the area so you never feel as if people are on top of you like you might in the peak season. There is a parking lot that is free from November-March, and you can also easily walk to the beach from in town. Next to the parking lot there is a covered area with chairs and benches which are perfect for just relaxing by the ocean. There are also a couple of restaurants, a snack bar, a beach store, and an ice cream shop very close by.

This review is intended for loud tourists from MA that don't know how to park their Abrams…read moretank-sized car. DO NOT GO THERE. If someone has told you that this is a beautiful beach park with fabulous views, they were dead wrong. If you think it might be a great place to fire up a grill and relax, you are sorely mistaken. If you got the crazy idea in your head that this would be the perfect way to spend a summer day, I say, no way, Jose. This place is not for you. Keep on trucking in your monstrous SUV. The fried dough at Old Orchard Beach is calling out to you.

After a long car ride there was nothing more I wanted to do than put my feet in the ocean. I was…read moredrawn here before I knew I needed to be here. Not seeing the ocean in over two years I was in desperate need to have that sand between the toes moment I had been missing. From where I was staying I had many choices of beaches to discover, but I am so glad that it was this one that I did discover. Getting here was a bit tricky for me, but with determination anything is possible. When I arrived to the area where everyone was parking, I see that I was not the only one that had the idea to head the beach that day. I parked and started trekking my way to the beach. It's a beautiful short walk from where you park. Along the way you get to see a lot of the great people that live in the area. Each one of them at least smiled at me as we passed. One even said that it is beautiful back there and I was going to enjoy myself. She did not lie. Like many said, this is an old fort. So there is some history to this place. Which makes it that much more of a beautiful place. As soon as I reached the beach area I didn't look around much, I just b-lined it to the beach, kicked off my shoes and stood there and waited for that rush of water over my feet. The type where you feel shocked because of the temperature difference, but one that relieves all the stress you have been feeling. Nearing sunset this place affords some pretty great pictures to be taken. The pier allows you to venture out onto the water without having to swim your way out. Even though the water is a bright green you can see all the way to the bottom. Man, this is exactly what I needed on a vacation. Sun, sand and surf. Breathing in that salty air really cleared my mind.

Something about this beach is magical. This is the most amazing beach for kids. Water is shallow,…read moreand still. Feels as warm as swimming in the lake. Hermit crabs and little shrimps for kiddos to see. You're allowed to fly kites, you can dig for clams, there is minimal sea gulls, and there's an awesome sand bar. Someone told me it's a great spot for bird watching early in the morning as well. When we come here I'm in the water with my 2 year old almost the ENTIRE time because it's so comfortable. LOVE IT!!!! only negative is that there are horseflies Just wear/bring bug spray I think parking is $15 per car until 3pm and after 3pm it's $5. We have a beach pass we got at Scarborough town hall for $40 because we're residents of Scarborough. Pays for itself very quickly!

I guess I'm just used to all the garbage and crowds along the Jersey Shore. The only downside is that parking is a bit pricey, at $20 a pop. But if you are an early bird and can make it there before I think either 8 or 9, then parking is only $5. Since we came on a Tuesday (at around noon), there weren't much people around, which was super nice. The weather for that day was only forecasted at the low 70s with some clouds, but it turned out to be a great beach day. It was warm, but not sweltering. Warm enough to go in the water - but only if you're brave. The water was icy cold. But after a while, you just become numb and don't even notice it (lol). There aren't really any waves but there is a very strong current so you definitely don't want to mess around with that. I never went out further than past my stomach, especially since I don't swim very well. Even just standing there with the water up to my waist, I could feel the currents pulling me. The best part of this beach is that it's only a 20-minute drive from Portland. We were visiting for the week and staying in Downtown, and didn't want to drive far to get to a beach so Ferry Beach was perfect for us. If I lived in the area, I would totally get a season pass.
