Decent food and prices. I don't really recommend their noodle items but their curry dishes are okay! Great place for large gatherings

Used to live in the apartment this was at so I frequented this place a lot. Prices were decent considering the portions. I graduated and recently went back and paid another visit and I think their fried stuff is a hit or a miss. I wish it was more consistent because when their chicken/pork katsu is done right, it's bomb. But unfortunately that wasn't the case and it was overfried :(. I think their sushi is a decent deal if you're craving it and don't wanna travel to.. kinkaku or something in the area. I personally feel like all their portions are great for students because I often end up taking it home as well and it becomes another meal. I really enjoy their cumin chicken skewers and it's something I miss a lot since I left that apartment. They always taste great! There's plenty of space to sit and it's a great place to hang out with friends after classes etc. I've also brought my family here when they came and visit because they offer enough options that everyone can usually find something they'd like. If you collect vicinity points, they also reward you for $5 after spending $50 there which isn't too bad!

Service here is fast and great and prices are student friendly. So the servers are very friendly, as soon as you're seated they bring you some water and salted peanuts. You have to call the server when you're ready and the service is pretty quick. The food portions are big as well. I usually get the rice dishes which come with salad and miso soup. As for taste, it could be better. Back when the restaurant first opened their food was very good, now it seems like it sort of fell off. The teriyaki chicken and salmon tastes okay but the meat is somewhat chewy. I've also had ramen here in the past and it isn't as good as Kenzo's. To finish they have free ice cream for dessert as well which is very good. In terms of value this place is really good, but it isn't the best food. I'd recommend this place once in a while if you're looking for some Asian fusion.

I would give this place a 3.5-4/5. Foodie fruitie is located at a good location, close for students and there's also a Coco's right downstairs for Bbt lovers. Rice here is a hit or miss (can be very good or super soggy or undercooked). My favorites here are the salmon teriyaki and the curry chicken. Meals here are around $10 so it's budget-friendly. You also get 10% off if you pay with cash. To start, you get free seaweed salad for sharing and a scoop of red bean ice cream (make sure to ask) at the end of your meal. Groups of six or more get free takoyaki. Most rice sets also come with miso soup and a salad The sushi here is also pretty good- I've had the fire red dragon roll and the black dragon roll. But I don't go for that because it's not filling as a meal. Ramen here on the other hand sucks. Basically just a ton of sodium, you can't even taste the flavour really. You get free noodle refills. Instant ramen is better lol. I gave it two chances and never again. Overall this is my go-to for food because their rice sets are pretty wholesome. I also like the salmon teriyaki and curry chicken.

I've been here many times and I think my overall experience is the same. It's very simple, they seat you down and give you water and a small plate of seaweed salad and then later ask you for your order. That's about as much service as you will get at a typical Chinese restaurant (not that I mind it that much). Despite what many people say about the food being 'meh', I actually find it decent. Now, I only order about two dishes from here every time, so I can't vouch for the whole menu. Their ramen, albeit not the authentic Japanese ramen you may be looking for, is quite good! I usually get the spicy soup ramen (really spicy for people who have average spice tolerance like me). It is packed with flavour, a generous helping of ramen noodles and a decent amount of meat. I am always very full after it, but if you want more, they provide a second helping of noodles for free! The only thing I wish they add to it is more veggies--they serve it with beansprout but it would be nice if they added some bok choy/watercress/shredded cabbage into it as well. My go-to side dish is the Japanese octopus balls. It comes in six pieces topped with mayo and dried bonito flakes. Being an avid fan of takoyaki, I was a little sad that they did not have takoyaki sauce on it. Still delicious nonetheless but would have been better if it was there. My overall experience was pretty good. Affordable and large food portions makes my tummy happy. (:

Food tastes decently. The sushi was quite filling, in my opinion. My parents and I both enjoyed the combo sets as the rice was cooked perfectly and still warm. Both sesame and curry chicken sets were delicious. It's the third time I've ate here and I for sure will be coming back!

Tldr: Asian fusion restaurant, decent price and good portions, 3.5/5 for taste, ok service, would recommend to students Foodie Fruitie is my go-to place for an asian fusion dine-in restaurant when i'm in Waterloo. I would say it's probably the best asian place that is close to campus, though if they decided to open up in Scarborough, Markham, Richmond hill, GTA, i don't think it will survive. This place thrives on university students who are deprived of asian cuisine and want a place that serves relatively good quality dishes at a cost-friendly level. Thus it's pretty packed during lunch and dinner times. When i come here, i usually get the Terriyaki salmon ($9.99) or Beef short ribs ($9.99) rice sets. It comes with salad, miso soup, and a heap of vegetables (has been nappa recently, bean sprouts in the past). For the salmon set, they give around 3 reasonable sized pieces of salmon drenched in their terriyaki sauce. They give a good amount of beef short ribs as well, though it's inconsistent with the level of dryness of the beef. Flavor-wise, it's 3.5/5. It can also get pretty salty as the meat and vegetables drown in the sauce. I guarantee that you will get full when you order their rice set combos. The portions are great, and you can ask for an extra bowl of rice at no extra cost. The sushi combos are not bad for the price as well, but it's nothing special. When i do decide to get the sushi, i go with the sushi combo C ($13.99) and it comes with salmon, eel, shrimp and crab sushi, 6pcs spicy salmon roll, and 8pcs Red dragon roll. Service here is meh, though i usually get what i ordered. They do separate bills for small and larger groups as long as you go up to the front desk to pay. They also give you ice cream (usually red-bean) as a dessert for free. So i guess that makes up for the inconsistent service? Anyways, as a waterloo student myself, i do come here often since it's close-by. I would 100% recommend this place to my fellow peers, though if you're not from here and you want asian cuisine, i would look elsewhere.

First and foremost: I love Foodie Fruitie. It tries to do a lot of things. It does some of it very well, some of it not so well. But let this be clear: its 5.99 crispy salmon roll and 6.99 dynamite roll are HUGE and incredibly delicious for the price. This restaurant is mostly a fix for me to get cheap sushi for great value. This is a restaurant that I frequent, since I live so closeby. I've visited over 20 times, and I've tried most options on the menu. Let's start off with the pros: WHAT A VARIETY. From Ramen to Curry rice, teriyaki to fried chicken, Sushi to bubble tea, $7 Toast deserts to free ice cream; this place does it all! The quality is not consistent. I am a huge fan of the sushi at this place - the portions are ridiculously large for the price (compared to other places near UW). A single dynamite roll here is enough to fill me up. And it tastes amazing - arguably the best dynamite roll I've ever had. Other dishes that I really enjoy from here: Curry Udon, or just Udon with chicken, is very delicious but also very oily. Teriyaki short ribs on rice Cumin Lamb Skewers (expensive, but good) Outside of that, this place is subpar. Its ramen is not that great. Its fried rice is actually quite bad. Its appetizers, like fried calamari and lobster balls are good, but a bit expensive. It's bubble tea selection is wide, but tastes average (and overpriced). Its service is absolute crap, and I think this is the one factor that pushes it down to a 3/5 from 4/5. 15% of the time, they forget your order, or bring you the wrong order. Each time I order the udon, I ask for no onions, but 40% of the time it comes with onion. Sometimes, food will take 30-40 minutes to arrive (if it's not forgotten). Some servers are friendly and nice, some clearly so not want to be there or talk to you. But! Free red bean ice cream if you eat in, so it's not all bad. After all of that, I have to say that I LOVE this restaurant. Im a regular, and I'm satisfied with the food I get most of the time. The sushi and the udon and the lamb skewers make me come crawling back for more. Just, there are so many improvements this restaurant can make, especially with service. I hope to one day change my rating to a higher one. I love foodie and I don't want to give it a 3, but it's what it deserves.

Def worth the price. They give you a free bowl of Japanese seaweed salad (one per table). I always order the chicken cutlet dandan porkbone soup ramen ($8.99). Plus it's 20% for the month of July/Aug. The ramen also comes with a spring roll. You can also ask for an extra small bowl of ramen noodles. And, there's free red bean or vanilla ice cream. If you pay by cash, it's 10% off. Vicinity members get up to $5 off for every $50 spent. For less than $10 you practically get an app, side, main, and dessert. Their food overall taste pretty good. Their service is occasionally slow. After coming here 20+ times, their service and food is very inconsistent. Sometimes they would run out of ice cream or spring rolls. And sometimes the bowl of ramen would be huge or smaller than usual ... But for most part it's the food is good and it's convenient considering they are open pretty late.

Take out chicken cutlet ramen with pork bone soup. Soup and chicken were terrible
    Linda L.

Update...I dont know what came over my mind but I decided to give this place a chance and get ramen takeout. Another disappointment indeed. The pork bone soup tasted so bad and not anything remotely close to what pork bone soup is supposed to taste like. The chicken cutlet was bland and I literally had to dip it into the soup to get some salty flavour. Same goes for the pork cutlet my friend got. We also ordered takoyaki and man that was bad. The balls weren't even crispy.

Tom Yum Ramen with BBQ Pork

Foodie Fruitie is located on the second floor of 203 Lester, the building that lights up at night. The atmosphere is pretty big with good lighting and tables. It's a nice place to get some food and just hang out. They have ramen options, bento boxes, a la carte sushi, bubble teas, cakes and typical asian snacks like takoyaki and popcorn chicken. I've tried two different ramen bases, the Dandan Pork and the Tom Yum. The pork is a little too bland and greasy for my liking, and the Tom Yum is all right. I hear their curry one is good so that'll probably be the next one I try. Their ramen portions are quite large and apparently there's free noodle refills so it's definitely worth the price. If you order the chicken or pork cutlet, it will come in a little dish on the side. I thought the chicken cutlet was average but the bbq pork was tasty. Their ramen noodles aren't as chewy or thick like some of the downtown Toronto options but weren't bad. I definitely prefer Foodie Fruitie's ramen in comparision to Kenzo's. Overall, the ramen gets 3 out of 5 stars, great portion size and okay taste. I was really surprised with their a la carte sushi, it was actually surprisingly delicious (and the reason why I'm giving this place four stars). Their Dragon Rolls are so big and I've gone back twice to get the Black Dragon Roll because it's so delicious! (They put squid in which adds a unique taste to it that works well). The Golden Fried Roll is a dragon roll with torched salmon on top, it was tasty and just as big as the Black Dragon Roll. I've also gotten the Red Dragon Roll with the simply a Dragon Roll with roe on top. A la carte sushi is never cheap, but Foodie Fruitie's are definitely filling and in my opinion, worth the price.

Chicken and pork cutlet curry on rice!

The location is conveniently located right at University Ave. and Lester St. Aka the Lester plaza. Not to mention the price here is remarkably low for students around campus. This usually ends up being the go-to place when I'm with friends, or if I want to get some quick take out on the way home from campus. I wouldn't recommend the ramen here. The ramen that comes with the spicy soup here is all spicy but no flavour. BUT I definitely would suggest getting their rice dishes. My favourites are the lemongrass chicken along with the curry pork cutlet which are only around $9 to $10. The sushi is also at a budget worthy price for those that crave it often. I remember getting one of the combos for around $14 however I'm not one to trust cheap sushi because we're dealing with raw fish over here. But I'm definitely okay with getting their California rolls! Service wise - I rate it anywhere from satisfactory to decent. Most of the time you get greeted upon arrival, but other times they stare at you until you say how many people need to be seated. Some servers could care less about what you want, others are right on point with what you want. It varies with each person that works there.

I've been here a couple of times because it is easy access from the 203 Lester Street building. Not sure why the reviews from this place is so bad (around 2.5 stars at the time of writing this review). The service could be a bit better but the food is fine and is one of the better places around the university if you ask me. 1. Food (4/5) The food is fairly priced. For around $8 - $11 a meal, you get the main dish, a salad, a soup, and a bowl of red bean ice cream if you ask for it at the end of the meal. I personally like the sushi combos which range from $10.99 - $13.99 depending on which one you get. Sushi combo A comes with 14 pieces, I think. It's actually pretty good and I would recommend it to my friends and family. The teriyaki dishes that the restaurant offers aren't too bad at all. If you're kind of thirsty. I recommend the avocado smoothie. It's really rich and creamy but at the same time, its rather healthy. However, food does take a while to come out for some reason. Depending on what you order, expect a 20 - 30min wait. 2. Service (4/5) I have yet to have a problem with their service. They do not ignore you in any way and are quick to react when you need something. The food does come out slow but I don't think that is the fault of the servers. Note: There's a service charge on credit cards. If you pay with cash, you get 5% off, and if you have a kw4rent card, its 10% off!! Overall (4/5) There's nothing wrong with the food here, and its actually a lot better than many places in the plaza across the street. You can find cheaper food in the plaza, but I think the price to quality on the food is a bit better than them!

*4.5* stars This…read morerestaurant has a very unique taste and dishes that aren't really seen anywhere else in the KW region (not that I'm aware of at least!) I saw it on Ubereats and saw there was a BOGO going on so I ordered it. I was pleasantly surprised at the complexity and variety of dishes they had! If you crave Asian food, I definitely recommend this place. This place seems to primarily be for hotpot, but I can understand with covid it's harder to see that side right now. Nonetheless, they have many options outside their hotpot as well. I got the seafood with vermecilli noodles for my partner and a Mala spice with fish noodles for myself. The beef pho was a BOGO option so I got them for tomorrow's meal. (the BOGO list was quite limited). They were delicious and I found the portion sizing to be quite nice! The soup was very very flavorful and hits the spot. Again something that I haven't found in the KW area at all until now and would crave (since it can be found commonly back home in Toronto) Packaging, wait time and everything was fine. Why it's not a perfect score is because of its price point. It's a lot pricier than some other places. Their primary feature is hotpot and noodles. The hotpot options seemed fairly nice but there's also a few other hotpot places just around the corner too. With the noodles, you can get the same large portion (but different noodle type, same richness in broth though) for half the price that they set it at here. I personally see this place as somewhere I'd get ever so often, or special occasions only. For student prices, I'd probably look to go elsewhere. However, you can't deny how good their broth is, so it's not a big enough deal to knock off a star completely.

We ordered the tonkotsu ramen and the shio both with an egg, but the order came out with both tonkotsu. We weren't sure if both orders were wrong, as the "chashu pork" seemed to be more like a ground/minced pork - similar to the "tantan". Upon confirming with the waiter if this was the correct order, she said yes that is what the chashu is supposed to look like. (see photo for reference) The ramen I would give a 5/10. - The noodles were good, they were chewy and not too soft. I only wish there were options for thin/thick noodles. 7/10 - The broth was very thick and heavy, and also salty. 5/10 - The ramen egg (additional $2) was very good, however at other ramen places, an additional egg would only be ~50¢-$1. 8/10 - There were no vegetables in the ramen dish. Although it was clear that there weren't any from the menu, I wish there was corn or bean sprouts to balance the heavy flavour of the broth. (bean sprouts would've been another $2, corn $1) - The ground pork was ok. I was expecting slices of chashu (as it does mean japanese braised pork belly). 1/10 The dumplings were a 1/10. - They came out very soft and wet. We could barely pick it up with our chopsticks. The dough was very thin and the dumplings were not filled properly. - They resembled more as a wonton or soup dumpling as you'd have to slurp it up. Not fried like actual "gyoza" The service was an 7/10. - The server was very friendly and checked up on us frequently. - As it was their opening the server (she) did a good job. - Our only complaint is the wrong order - though we should've double checked after. Overall i'm giving ramen rebels a 2 stars out of 5. The ramen was ok but quite pricey (especially for students), the chashu pork was not what I expected, the dumplings were not good but the service was decent.

There were many options on the menu to choose from but I finally settled for spicy bulgogi which comes with a bowl of rice. The spicy bulgogi came on a sizzling plate, mixed with different veggies and glass noodles. I haven't tried glass noodles in bulgogi before but I found that it was a nice addition since it carried the sauce well. It was a really yummy dish and I'd order it again. I'd recommend coming here if you're looking for a tasty and satisfying meal. Can't wait to be back for more!
