I was excited to try this place as I've been looking for a good ramen restaurant in the KW area. On their opening day I immediately made plans to check it out. We ordered the tonkotsu ramen and the shio both with an egg, but the order came out with both tonkotsu. We weren't sure if both orders were wrong, as the "chashu pork" seemed to be more like a ground/minced pork - similar to the "tantan". Upon confirming with the waiter if this was the correct order, she said yes that is what the chashu is supposed to look like. (see photo for reference) The ramen I would give a 5/10. - The noodles were good, they were chewy and not too soft. I only wish there were options for thin/thick noodles. 7/10 - The broth was very thick and heavy, and also salty. 5/10 - The ramen egg (additional $2) was very good, however at other ramen places, an additional egg would only be ~50¢-$1. 8/10 - There were no vegetables in the ramen dish. Although it was clear that there weren't any from the menu, I wish there was corn or bean sprouts to balance the heavy flavour of the broth. (bean sprouts would've been another $2, corn $1) - The ground pork was ok. I was expecting slices of chashu (as it does mean japanese braised pork belly). 1/10 The dumplings were a 1/10. - They came out very soft and wet. We could barely pick it up with our chopsticks. The dough was very thin and the dumplings were not filled properly. - They resembled more as a wonton or soup dumpling as you'd have to slurp it up. Not fried like actual "gyoza" The service was an 7/10. - The server was very friendly and checked up on us frequently. - As it was their opening the server (she) did a good job. - Our only complaint is the wrong order - though we should've double checked after. Overall i'm giving ramen rebels a 2 stars out of 5. The ramen was ok but quite pricey (especially for students), the chashu pork was not what I expected, the dumplings were not good but the service was decent. read more

I haven't had a whole lot of ramen in my life but this was definitely the best I've had so far! I was very happy with the meal we recieved for the price. I ordered the pork bone broth bowl (I can't remember the actual name right now) and it was very good. It was delicious to begin with, but the sesame sauce made it fantastic. The cut of pork that was in the ramen was okay, just a little "marrow-y" in some places. The best flavor of the meal came from the sesame sauce in my opinion. The service was also very friendly and helpful with the menu. I would absolutely visit again next time we're in Canada. read more

Ever since having my first bowl of ramen a few years back, I have been on a quest to find the best bowl in KW. So when a new ramen shop opened - I had to try it. Sadly, Ramen Rebels was disappointing. I had the Spicy Tonkotsu. The positives: it was spicy, and the noodles were good (well cooked and a good thickness). The negatives: there was a complete lack of flavour, a layer of fat/oil on the top of the broth, and the most fatty piece of chashu pork I've ever seen in a bowl of ramen. The toppings are very limited. You can pay to add a few more toppings - I added corn - but for an extra $1, I only found a few kernels in my bowl. In contrast to some other locations in town (Crafty Ramen, Asakusa, Izna Noodle House), Ramen Rebels does not come close. If you want an authentic, delicious, and flavourful bowl of ramen, I'd suggest you find another place in town. read more

Pricey for SIMPLE ramen dishes. Normally when I had no good experience, I wouldn't comment and would'n go back again. But its a new startup and i just wanna give some constructive advice: 1. big bowls make the portion look small. basically half bowl of noodles. give some more broth and noodles. 2. bland looking ramen make the portion looks even smaller. try to add something like dried seaweed, chili flakes, green beans, sesame seeds, splashes of soy sauce. 3. Plating is terrible. Could have spent 2 more seconds plate my sad looking $8 six dumplings better. 4. GOTTA learn how to fry chicken. You know the oil temperature is too high the sizzling sound is huge. Dark chicken look like burnt, dry and CHEWY. 5. Need more salt for some ramen broth. If you have ever tried ramen spots in GTA or especially in downtown Toronto, you know the huge difference for the same styled foods that you have paid with same money. The pork bone broth needed to be skimmed more as there was about a full centimeter of fat floating on top. The chashu pork did not have any flavour and didn't appear to have been cooked enough as the fat hadn't rendered out much. Charging $2 for an egg or $1 for vegetables that would normally be included in a ramen is a little excessive when the ramen is already more expensive than most places, and, truthfully, not as good. read more

All I have to say is try this place out! They have solid broths and their spices are bang on. I had the appetizer tater tots to start. Really enjoyable. Pickled ginger, scallions and a sauce that made it fun. The Spicy pork tonkotsu is ah-maze-omg! It's spicy, the pork belly was perfect and the fatty to broth balance was awesome. It was like a warm hug from your mom after a bad day. Totally comforting. Don't buy into the previous reviews that found it too salty and fatty. It's what ramen is. No fat no flavour. And it's a pork broth. Duh. The service is warm and welcoming here. I had a great experience and can't wait to go back and try more. Do yourselves a favour and get some of this place's ramen and enjoy yourselves. The chef and owner put a lot of pride and effort into this place and it shows. read more

I was super disappointed, people who only go on and leave negative reviews are not people I want to trust, that being said I have to leave a very negative review. I ordered the miso and added pork. I am honestly being generous when I say that it just tasted like salty brown water.I don't know if they did something wrong with mine or if that is how it is supposed to taste. It had corn and some yummy mushrooms As well as a random disc of what could've possibly been butter? but I found it seriously lacking in noodles. This is a Ramen restaurant and so I anticipated it being filled with Ramen not having to hunt below the broth to find what I honestly believe was much less than one packet of Mr. doodle. The pork was completely inedible, I mean it was 2, 10 to 12 inch strips of what looked like pork belly that wasn't smoked and so the fat was not rendered. I would say that this was a lower grade pork belly as well, because the fat to meat ratio was a bare minimum of 60%. Although if that had been in a frying pan and crisped up it would've been probably quite nice but it was this gigantic fatty strip that really needed a plate and a knife and a fork. I'm not an expert with chopsticks but many times I've managed to eat my fill in a short amount of time using them, in this situation I managed to use my fingers and get a few tastes but the flavour and quality of the meat was not worth eating with my hands... Remember this is soup. The checkout was also a little bit troublesome as the first option on the debit machine is 25% tip, it's also flat on the desk 7 inches from the server and the obligation to leave a high percentage tip is strongly felt. Let's remember this is essentially a fast food restaurant where you serve yourself a beverage, a 25% tip is a little bit ludicrous. I ordered one bowl of Ramen with pork and drank a glass of water And my bill with a 15% tip was $18.10. Especially in today's day and age where everyone is worried about germs having a giant bowl on each table full of reusable chopsticks causes me some concern. How many people have touch those chopsticks, did somebody use a pair of chopsticks and put them back in the bowl? I understand not wanting to pollute the earth, but I strongly do not want to be polluted either. In order to be fair I think I will go back again and try something different, I sure wish there was a shrimp option. The staff were nice, without a doubt, and the delivery of my salty brown water with strips off un-rendered fatty meat was very quick. So if my meal was an anomaly this place could be good, with a few housekeeping changes and perhaps setting the debit machine with the first option as 10% read more
