Sometimes the price of cheap[er] is time in line. A lower tier Kroger/Ralph's located in sometimes less affluent parts of town, there are deals to be found, but also some things to avoid. However, if you go early in the morning you can usually beat the annoying, slow moving lines at the checkout. I've stumbled across good prices for everyday pantry items, and it's convenient for me to sometimes shop here while running errands in an efficient loop. The downside though is reduced selection in many areas, and no self-checkout kiosks. The carts can be pretty rough as well, dirty and bad wheels, and often left about the parking lot. On the whole, I come back fo selective items that I know are cheaper than the go-to Ralph's, that said, I've seen cheaper prices at Ralph's for the same thing occasionally, so study those Wednesday fliers in the mailbox ahead of time ;) read more

So I'm in here shopping the produce section on 1/24/26. There's an employee barricading his way through produce with his "stocking cart". He moved me out the way, and even looked at me, like I shouldn't have been in his way to begin with. An elderly Hispanic woman walks up to him, seeking help for an item and she is speaking Spanish. He let's her finish, then in return says to her, "I don't know what the hell you're saying, I'm not Mexican, I'm Samoan". I must've swung my head around so fast like, I know you did not just speak like that to a customer, and an elderly one at that. That was so rude and disrespectful of him. She must not have understood what he said, cause she still stood there, trying to get him to help her, and she ended up gesturing with her hands what she was looking for. I guess he figured out what she needed, and they walked away, with her following behind him. Shame on that employee!!! read more

For the most part the store is clean and well stocked in the mornings. On this particular morning the staff was stocking the store but no one greets the customers, or acknowledges us in any way. They were having personal conversations loudly as they worked and stocked the shelves. The cashier was nice enough though. If you have no choice and need something real quick then stop here. Overall 5/10, because the store is pretty clean. The parking lot gets quite full as well. read more

I have never heard of this store and went here with my Son to grab a few items. This is the cheapest grocery store I've seen in long time as they still have deals that were offered pre-Covid. I couldn't believe my eyes walking in and seeing some of the prices. The only thing that keeps confusing me about Cali is the fact, that you have to pay for grocery bags. I'd definitely shop here if we had one in AZ. The fresh produce looked as if it were delivered directly from the farms lol Everyone here were friendly. read more

Been many times we come to this store and there are never any employees when there are needed and they never have anything one is looking

I come here for my groceries because the prices are better. I left my wallet in a shopping cart 2 days ago on accident and realized today. Called the store and a lady answered quickly and told me they had it , she was very nice when giving it back to me. I didnt catch her name but she was working register 9 on 06/15/2025 at 7pm. The go-to grocery store for broke college students aka like me. This is the place I go to if I'm too lazy to go to Winco or Aldi's all the way in Moreno Valley. I went in the morning today and it seemed like all the vegetables were pretty fresh. It's definitely way different if you were to shop at a later time. A lot of variety of different brands and prices. I love how Food4Less carries Kroger Brand since they're my favorite knock off brand. Super affordable and a lot of the stuff are not that different from the original brands. Parking sucks because the parking slots are the slanted kind so I constantly have to circle around sometimes to park closer to the store. It's low-key in a sketch area where there's a lot of loiterers around which is why I prefer to park closer to the store front. Overall, cheap and wide selection. read more

Food 4 less is where I go if I want to shop groceries on a budget. They have everything that Winco or stater bros, but at a cheaper price. The fruit they have is also at a lower quality. There's nothing really special about this place. At night it seems pretty dangerous because there's people that just roam the parking lot. But it's also convenient because it's the last place that sells good alcohol at the later part of night. I go here to buy cleaning and kitchen supplies. I don't go here all the time because the fruit is really sour. read more

This grocery store is highly unwelcoming to college students!!! Today was my first time coming here because it was close to UCR and I needed onions for my Japanese curry. Instead of being greeted with a "welcome", the women at the front door scrutinized me and annoyingly told me to put my backpack at their unguarded corner. This is unlike any grocery store that I've been to and it's frankly, the most run down store I've seen. This store must so riddled with crime that they won't even trust UCR students who are buying groceries. Let me gladly say that I am never coming back. read more

When I am running errands in this part of town I usually make a stop at Food 4 Less during my rounds: Post Office, Lolas Bakery, The Dollar Tree, maybe Jack In The Box/Dominos/Subway (maybe) and then there is Food 4 Less. I usually come here for produce, dairy, cereal, and frozen food items because they have the best prices that I've found in a 3 mile radius of here on those particular items. Ralphs is suppose to be their sister store but for whatever reason Food 4 Less carries better produce for cheaper. They also have random items that no other grocery stores seem to have or at least at the time I'm looking for them. One time I was trying to find apple butter for an apple butter bar recipe and I couldn't find it anywhere, I called Food 4 Less to make sure they had it before I drove that way and they had a huge jar under $4, score! It was delicious and I was able to make double the recipe. My biggest gripe are the checkout lines. They have about 10 checkout lanes, yet I have only seen 2 ever in operation at one time and the lines are always super long. I know they save money by customers bagging their own groceries so I wish they would help the process of shopping there being less time consuming by hiring more cashiers, at least during the busy hours. And although there is always a security guard on duty (maybe because Food 4 Less' aren't always in the safest of neighborhoods???) it doesn't make me feel any safer. One time a customer was cursing at a cashier loudly and security did not do anything, didn't kick him out, nothing. *what's the point?* I guess if prices are low, quality of service suffers too, getting what I'm paying for I suppose; at least I go home with some good groceries. read more

Given the field I work in, I take notice of such where ever I run around. This place is not that great for security or one's personal safety. Yes, I know it's a grocery store but I bring up the important factor of ones safety while coming and going from somewhere. This place gets ghetto scary when the sun goes down. I mean you will find transients, beggers, bums, and other misc. questionables hanging around the front of the store as well as in the parking lot. In the times I've been here I have seen at least two very heated arguments happening in the parking lot (this venue's parking lot is 4 or 5 rows with about 10 slots deep in each row, which is really really small for an actual grocery store parking lot). Security? No where to be found. The times I have found them, they are off in some corner talking with friends or whoever it is. The store itself? It's your average food store. Some good deals here and there and some cheap prices. If you have to come here, come during the day. It's not worth risking your safety for a dollar or two of savings. read more

Hate this place. Probably one of the worst grocery shopping experiences I've ever had going to this place multiple times. Their prices may be cheaper SOMETIMES, but I'm not sure it's worth the rude customers bumping into you and the ghetto area/parking lot overall. Finding parking's such a b****. It's like a warzone out there since the parking lot is so small. Also, theres's often a bunch of bums hanging around pestering you for money or loose change in the parking lot, so be careful. Don't get the store brand bread at Food 4 Less. Even if it's cheaper, it's not worth it. Their bread never molds! I bought two loaves of bread from them before. Both times, the bread would still be "fresh" for over a month - two months! You do not want those crazy preservatives to be digested in your stomach -- It can't be good for you... Also, the check-out line gets ri-dic-u-lousssss. There are times when the line starts looking like you're at Costco trying to check-out. Just the whole set-up of the place, I don't like. I prefer Safeway/Von's or Stater Bros, personally... I feel like they have more of a selection, not as ghetto, fresher foods, and have a nicer set-up. read more

There's an older bigger white man there who is ALWAYS rude. I always feel discriminated by him. I believe his name is Ken but not entirely sure, I hate when I end up in his line. I also was discriminated by one of the security guards. I came in one day to grab a few things and as I was walking out, he allowed all the white people to go not saying a word to any of them, but when it got to me he put his hand out and made me stop and put my stuff down and then made me turn slowly to see if I had stolen anything. Come here all the time. Lines are always long. Other then that everything is fine. Today however, while I was waiting in line I couldn't help but overhear and watch the cashier "sujayla" be extremely rude to an elderly woman. She had an attitude because the woman asked her about something she saw an ad for. She rudely told the woman to bring her the paper and when she didn't answer fast enough for her she told her "be for real! I don't have your time". Mind you the elderly woman only seemed to speak Spanish. How do you not have time to help a customer with a simple question. It's literally part of ur job. Maybe food 4 less should reconsider hiring rude people to be cashiers or train on how to improve customer service . The homeless people really like hanging out here in front. There's an outdoor picnic table nearby and the homeless beg for money and drink. I used to belong to Altura credit union and one day saw a homeless man sleeping in front and when the woke him he got up and went to food 4 less to beg for more money. This whole area is bad. I am really growing to love this store! I live close to Ralph's and have been shopping there for the past year. WHAT A WASTE! Just a little further down (and yes, in a lower income area of town) is Food 4 Less, and that is no lie! The food here is so inexpensive. Today, I decided to shop Ralph's out of convenience. My husband and I went in with our grocery list, pulled 3 items from the produce aisle, and realized we were about to spend $5 on 3 items. I couldn't bring myself to spend it (I still had a long list to go). We walked out and drove down to Food 4 Less. I got ALL my produce for $12. For example, Ralph's was charging $0.99 for a single bell pepper, Food 4 Less was charging $0.88 for two. Since I only needed one, I paid $0.44 for my bell pepper. And guess what? The quality wasn't any less. I've been impressed with the produce. The worst I've had to do was sift through a couple cucumbers to find some good ones, but whatever. Their produce section reminds me a little bit of a farmer's market--especially their herb section. Meat section doesn't seem any less fresh than anything else I've seen, and they're all marked with expiration dates. Last week (after my first shopping trip there) I made dinner every single night with the food I'd bought there and it tasted fresh, delicious, and no one got sick. :) I'd say they're selling totally good food. At Ralph's, I agree, you're in a nicer environment, but I really haven't seen the so-called crack heads or vagrants that people have written about. What I see at Food 4 Less are families, students, and other smart shoppers looking to stretch their food budget. I've gone at various times in the day, including after sundown. I know the area and the store have a stigma attached to it, I was in that same place of feeling too good to shop there, but I feel like a fool when I think of how much I've wasted shopping at "better" stores. Today, I bought 55 items for $96 dollars. On average, that means I spent less than $2 per item. I dare you to try sticking to that budget at any of the other grocery stores in the area. read more

Summoning my inner fat kid I couldn't pass up the offer. I also couldn't show up empty handed, I mean I'm a free loading low life, but I refuse to come over only to get free stuff, I'm not "That guy", we all know "That guy", hell you might even be "That guy", if you are, we all talk about you behind your back and even yelp about you, DEAL WITH IT! When I parked I coulda swore I entered into some sorta bizaro Twilight zone time warp because I saw a white guy driving one of those trucks with the cow sticker on the side, slammed to the floor with those little ball thingies on the dash and a white guy in front of the store taking donations for the Red Cross. Call me a racist if you want, I don't care but you'd be lying if you didn't also think that was weird. Okay I'm gonna wrap this up because nobody reads long drawn out reviews and quit frankly I'm getting board of typing this out, besides It's Food 4 Less anybody who actually shops here couldn't give two shits what some guy from the OC thinks. Parking can be an issue depending on when go shopping, the people may look sketch, but it feels like home to me. Spice is the variety of life. And, sure, the surrounding area can be improved when compared to other 'upscale' grocery stores nearby. However, this is my go to joint as they be selling their produce/fruits for the low-low (only when in season though). Otherwise, swing by. Don't listen to the complaints. This is one of two of the best groceries in the city for people like us: people without cable, without their own personal internet, people without money. This place is truly inexpensive but most of the goods are for people who are above the poverty line, but still poor. The lower middle class might shop here with impunity. The goods the poorer of us will be getting is peanut butter, cheap hotdogs, bread, yogurt (instead of milk), and vitamins. The vitamins are the expensive part, but Kroger's vitamins are actually mentioned in some health magazines as excelling in providing nutrient value. That's not a menu for children; for children it should be vegetables (spinach or yams) and red meat (red meat has recently been shown to be as safe as the safest vegetables), milk and bread, for all three meals, plus a daily vitamin. You can get food from here, just keep in mind there's a lot of poor people in the world, it's never just yourself. Other people didn't pay attention in math class, and so we're all stuck without fancy jobs in engineering and economics. Oh well. Hang for awhile with sexy, smart people who read Proust, Joyce, and Montaigne but who need spare change for cigarettes and laundry. It's all in this store. Love it because without this and the other nearby option, your only alternative is illegal and dangerous. read more

If you're a UCR student looking to load up on groceries, then this is pretty much the closest place there is. Actually, it might be pretty much the only thing to do on a Saturday afternoon, if you're not looking to drive far. I'm used to the organic/locally - grown/artisinal stores that mainly populate my hometown of SF/Marin County, so this place is like a ghettofabulous breath of fresh air, for me. I've been shopping here for over 10 years. Lately every time I come in, the carts aren't wanting to move, or make really loud noises. The employees are very rude. I went in today, and told the cashier about a problem I was having, and she rolled her eyes, and said "sorry" that was it, then continued to talk to the cart boy. She asked if I wanted a bad, didn't even listen to when I said yes, and kept talking to the boy more. I paid, grabbed my own bag, and left. Seems like she was more there to flirt with the "cute" boy than to give her customer, good quality customer service. Won't be shopping here anytime soon. read more

I usually just shop there for sale items but a few weeks ago I passed by the bakery. I was very surprised. They had some of the most beautifully decorated cakes that I have ever seen! A few days later the occasion arose so we bought a birthday cake for a friend and it tasted as good as it looked! Since then I have tried their oatmeal/raisin cookies and today bought some sugar cookies, both freshly baked at the store. Both were as good as any oatmeal or sugar cookies that I have ever had. I simply would not have expected to find such high quality baked goods at this store. I will be back to try more of their goodies :) When they have a sale their prices can be hard to beat but the regular prices on produce etc are not generally exceptional. I have another store that I shop at where they practically give it away sometimes. The Food 4 Less on Chicago is the only store I can find that carries the brand of coconut milk that I prefer (Golden Star) for making ice cream. They also have some very high quality whole wheat bread which they sell for about 1/2 the price of the Orowheat that I used to buy. read more

Alright...so maybe my last review was a lil' harsh and based more on the customers + surrounding area. I still stick to "it's your standard Food 4 Less" because, well, it is. They probably do have the best deals in terms of any wholesale foods you can get but I couldn't find any fruits/veggies labeled "organic" which might not be important to some people but to me it is very important. But hey, when you can get 3lbs of oranges for 0.99, who's complaining, right? They also carry a vast amount of choices when it comes to brands. In terms of customer service I felt pretty welcomed. The staff is friendly and when I needed to know where something was located they were able to assist me AND without coming off as annoyed that I asked a question. So, to update just a couple days later, I'll give 3 stars. OH...Food 4 Less...why don't y'all carry any Coffee Monster energy drinks? I love those things... read more

Food 4 Less is probably the cheapest grocery option close to the UC Riverside campus for general groceries. I've actually found produce to be cheaper across the street at Big Saver Mart... So if you have extra time, it doesn't hurt to buy your produce items from Big Saver and get your other stuff from Food 4 Less. I kind of love how this Food 4 Less attracts the shadiest, most ghetto folks in the world. Prepare to deal with pan handing bums, meth heads, and crack fiends every time you step within a 15 foot radius of Food 4 Less. But I suppose that's the price you pay for cheaper groceries. If you have the time and energy, drive over to WinnCo In Moreno Valley. I've found them to be on the whole a good notch cheaper than Food 4 Less... but I only head over there when I'm buying a huge haul. For casual grocery shopping, Food 4 Less does the job. They have the cheapest 30 packs of beer by far out of any store close to the Riverside area just as a side note. I haven't seen cheaper. I just wish they'd have a bit more selection of 40 oz malt liquor. read more

The employees are all nice and helpful and the store is clean and they just recently moved some things and added freezers to the front of the store which I happen to love. Convenience is key and this store is very convenient. The only reason I took off one star is because I really don't like bagging my own groceries and it's especially hard with 3 kids! Food 4 Less is really the alternative if you do not want to go to Stater Bro's. They have a wide selection like any other Food 4 Less. Keep in mind, the product you see there are the same brand as Ralph's (Kroger). My theory is that some products that could not sell in Ralph's would eventually end up here. THis is because of the expiration dates. Comparing with Ralph's, expiration date on Kroger and many products are a lot longer. In Food 4 Less, items tend to have a much shorter shelf life. Never really consider the expiration date right?? Is always best to keep in mind. Next time you see the SALE label, consider the time to consume the product. It does get ghetto outside this parking lot. There use to be a lot of homeless people asking for change. Overall, pretty decent grocery place. read more
