This is a big and shiny (though no longer quite so new) Morrison's in the centre of the new…read moreharbourside development in Barry. Although it's surrounded by new housing, it's actually pretty central, and only a 10 minute walk from the centre of town. It's also served by several of Barry's local buses. Although a lot of people are disparaging about Morrison's, I quite like this store: it's clean, bright, and well-stocked, and with wide aisles. The quality of fruit and veg is fine (not quite up to Waitrose standards, but then you're paying less) and it's large enough to cope with the most demanding weekly shop. There's an in-store bakery, cake shop, butcher, fish counter and delicatessen, as well as a fresh salad and fresh pizza counter. The large cafe at one end of the store is fine, if you need some sustenance before or after your shop, and it seems popular with pensioners and the odd family doing just that. There's a very large car park, and a petrol station with very competitive prices and reasonable opening hours (NB it doesn't open until 7am, so if you have an early start, fill up the night before). Other facilities include a cashpoint, customer toilets and recycling centre.

Morrisons is great at trying to get that 'market feel' with a bakery, deli counter, fish counter and butchers. The petrol station can be a pain - the layout is terrible and if it's busy it's hard to get out of the car park. They have just re-furbished this and i havent seen if they've actually changed the layout - i hope so though!

Foxy's Delicatessen is something of a gem in Penarth's repertoire of shops and eateries. The…read morewonderful selection of produce includes traditional style pink lemonade, freshly baked breads, high quality cuts of meat and an array of cheeses, all nicely on display to customers. With Foxy's Deli choosing to stock a higher standard of goods, the prices are of course a little steeper than you'd expect to pay in local supermarkets, butchers and convenience stores. However, with the charming young staff and notably delicious food stocked, Foxy's does represent a happy alternative, with relatively good value for money also ensured. The cafe section of the shop uses the same high quality meats, breads and cheeses for their eclectic selection of sandwiches, all freshly prepared on the premises downstairs. With a number of drinks and cakes also available, Foxy's not only serves as a deli, but as a pleasant cafe with it's tasteful surroundings and lively atmosphere. Take away service is also available for sandwiches and cakes which simply adds to the high quality of service offered.

It's also a very popular spot for locals to have a cup of coffee to catch up, so expect this place to be busy! All in all, I like Foxy's. The food in my opinion is a solid 3 stars. ~ Atmosphere: It's a tight little space so there's not much room to maneuver around. If you're here during a peak time, be prepared! Especially near the deli counter, often times the queue and get pretty large and hectic. However, it does have a certain charm and especially when the sun's out, I highly recommend you have your brunch outside. ~ Customer Service: Really friendly and has all the charm of a local cafe. ~ Food: The last time I came here I had the Eggs Benedict. I ordered sandwiches before, so this is the most *substantial* thing that I've ordered. Taste-wise it was fine but they made some strange choices such as wholegrain toast instead of a traditional English muffin. Aside from that, unfortunately my poached eggs were overcooked. One of the saddest things in life is cutting open an egg and expecting to get delightful runny yolk but instead still medium-boiled eggs. However, it was still a yummy meal. The hollandaise sauce was fine so it hit the spot, just definitely not something I'd be still pining over. Overall, I like Foxy's. It's nothing out of this world, but a great place in Penarth for a quick meal and a coffee.
