I visited Food City on 43rd Ave and McDowell Rd. I haven't been here for a while but the meat was on sale among other items. One of the items on sale were Eternal water the ad said 2 for 4 and since this is the only water I could drink I purchased 8 of them and two big ones which were 2 for 7. I also belong to the digital club so I purchased 2 boxes of the variety of chips with the coupon you pay 2.99 with that being said when I went to pay of course I checked my receipt and noticed that I was being charged full price 10.99 for the chips and 2.69 for the water so I asked the cashier why she said she wasn't sure and called her Supervisor ORI she looked at me up and down and told me that she could sell me the 2 bottles of water at 2 for 4 but I had to pay regular price for rest of them. I asked her why if the ad on the shelf said 2 for 4 she refused to sell them to me. I wasn't asking her to gift them to me the cashier named Antonia told one of the employees to go to the shelf and take a picture of the ad and bring it to her and to tear the ad of the shelf. Ori embarrassed me in front of all the ppl there showing of her authority making it known that she wasn't gonna sell them to me because someone made an error and put up the ad. She kept coming back and forth as if she was trying to instigate a fight as if she wanted for me to argue with her the way she was with me standing there looking around smiling to see if she was being noticed. Not once did she apologize because someone made a mistake and put the ad on the shelf. She didn't even demonstrate any empathy nor was she professional about the situation. She could have said mam I'm sorry but since the ad was on the shelf I'll go ahead and sell it to you or said something nice about it. But no she walked up to me as if she was ready to fight with those motorcycle gloves on her hands. I asked to speak to her Supervisor by the name of Alcenda but she refused to call her because she said she wasn't there when I was already told she was. I did call her about 20 mins later to explain the situation to her but she did tell me it was her day off she was only there for an hr to interview and she was going to leave but that she will talk to ORI to find out what happened. I asked her if she wanted to take down my name and number she did and said I'll contact you when I return from my days off. One other thing the electrolytes were on sale as well for 2.00 each I didn't realize it's only up to the 1st 4 there after it's full price be Vigilant ppl with these false ads. read more

I love the food at Food City but today was very disappointing. I ordered red menudo to go and when I got home I had a horrible surprise. The 2 extra large containers were nothing but tripe and I had maybe 100 kernels of homeny. I live a good distance away so I am not taking it back for a refund but I wanted to make sure no one else makes the same mistake. The people who served it should have noticed nothing but tripe was in it and thrown some of the tripe away. I will consider it a donation and last but not least I strongly recommend the carne asada torta it is amazing. read more

Delayed post from about 30 to 45 days ago. For some reason it didn't get on. In addition to my love for the Bolillo rolls, their thin sliced tortilla chips are absolutely delicious. As are their fresh tortillas. While I don't care for their refried beans, they have a pre-made Mexican rice in the Deli section that is really, really good. Went because a friend recommended it for the produce. There was a limited selection of fruits. I did not find fresh berries and the pineapples were sold by the pound. Pineapples were $.99/lb the day I was there and 3 pineapples totaled $18, need I say I did not make that purchase! They did however have mustard and turnip greens, beets, carrots and celery. All of which looked like they were left in the field to long. The size of the produce was an indicator that it was possibly fibrous and tuff. It reminded me of the first time I planted cucumbers and I was so proud of how big they were and my mom laughed and said, "you can't eat them, they are tuff and seedy!" I should have picked them when they were young and tender. Lol read more

Who knew a little restaurant inside a grocery store would be so good. Food City is a great everyday low price supermarket. Food city is like every modern supermarket that offers full service meat department, pharmacy items, baked sweets, picnic supplies and a full line of groceries. However, what the other markets cant offer and food city can is a quality line of authentic mexican foods. Food city is where I go to get my homemade tortillas, tortilla chips, and fresh made salsas. As soon as you walk through the doors of Food City you know this is not the normal grocery store. You feel like you entered a new world. There is mexican music playing through out the store, smells of mexican food, mexican baked goods, and authentic Agua Fresca in large glass jars. Tucked in the corner of Food City, is a huge tortilla-making machine. The smell of fresh tortilla in the morning draws you in and you can't avoid the temptation to purchase a few dozen fresh and hot off the press. The food is excellent. Everything is reasonably priced & the portions are big enough that you will take home leftovers. I had a breakfast burrito for just $3.49, and it was big! I have aslo had their pollo asado deal which included a full grilled chicken, rice, beans, salsa and 20 corn tortillas and it was also delicious. read more

This Food City is not my usual one :D, but still has all the amenities I look for in this kind of business. They have their Panadería, where they sell "Pan Dulce" or Mexican sweet Bread, they also have their "cocina" and they sell a wide array of goodies, from tacos, tortas, and Menudo. They have their carnicería, and they make their own tortillas on site, flour and corn, and their produce is very good quality. I recommend this location! read more

Very dirty store and carts. Went in for the $3.97 per pound T bone steaks. They were prepackaged in 3s. Two of the steaks have absolutely zero filet. Nothing on the other side of the T. They were hiding under the other steak. See pic...one on far right was on top. Others couldn't be seen until package was opened. Total False Advertisement. I understand that Food City is not exactly the nicest grocery location of all your options. I mostly go there when I want good selection of Mexican foods and goods. We had no idea that there was one in Avondale. We live in Goodyear and would travel all the way out to the 91st ave and Camelback location. This Avondale Food City clearly does not care about their appearance. The place was dirty, especially the deli. We grabbed some pastries and a drink and the place was filthy. The counters were dirty, the grill was disgusting. Just because you are in a blue collar area, does not mean customers don't deserve to shop in a clean environment. Tables were dirty and the toppings counters had food everywhere. I will make the longer drive next time. read more

Fine store, with good selections but there are a full problems. The outside is full of trash, and there are homeless people sitting outside. In the inside, the ceiling is very dirty, with the vents full of dust. Also, the outside fan is very loud, it sounds like it needs to be replaced. They either need to fix these issues, or remodel this whole store. read more

Despite most negative comments that I read, we made our weekly shopping. it was sunday afternoon and they had mariachis! which I was surprised I didn't see anything like that before, it was cool though! Most of his products are mexican, if you feel like doing some carnes asadas, sopes, tacos, and more this is the place you will find all ingredients that you will need... and yeah their prices are lower compare to the multinationals. I know most people comments about the location but nowadays is about savings and in this place you will. Definitely, I will come back to do my weekly shopping. read more

Having been born and raised in N.W. Dropsonia this makes me an expert on grocery stores. And this one I like, the Mexican music makes me wiggle down the isles while I pick up the cheap and plentiful produce. It is not really any better produce than other grocers, but much less expensive. The meat counter cuts its meat in much thinner portions than others do. I prefer thin as apposed to fat. The already marinated chicken and beef is also quite good. The folks who work here are always very nice and helpful if one needs assistance. read more

Food City has the absolute BEST prices on produce that I've ever seen anywhere in AZ, CA, or HI. When I first saw the Wednesday circular advertising avocados 5/$.99 and 8 lbs. of roma tomatoes for $.99, I knew that there had to be a catch. I scurried down to Avondale as fast as my little honda could take me, and alas, the ad was real, and I scored 4 massive bags of produce for a whopping.... $12. You have to buy what's on sale, and I haven't bought much here other than produce, as I don't find their grocery prices to be outstanding, but for fruits and veggies, there's no better place IMHO. As an added bonus, with all of the Mexican music playing throughout the store, I'm learning a little bit of Spanish. Ole! read more

This review is for the food place. Beware! Their carne asada burrito is ground meat! It's not the real steak you usually get in Mexican food places. It was good but it was not what I expected. The prices are decent. I wish they would keep the food place clean. The salsa bar is so dirty, the ladle is swimming in the salsa. Also, the food that you get by weight looks stale and cold. It's good for a quick Mexican fix for a cheap price, but don't expect too much. I do love their tres leches cake though. Can't beat that for $2! read more

Came shopping here came out and my truck was gone. Found out it had been towed. Tow company said Food city had it towed because it had a for sale sign on it. Went to Food City they said it's the tow company who did it. Spent all day looking for my truck and spent $215 to get it out. What a horrible experience just for shopping. This morning i went to food city on Van buren and Dysart...i was looking on my receipt and i thought i was over charged for an item. I went back to the cashier she was nice....another cashier came and said i had the wrong receipt because of the date. He called the manager...i didnt want to see the manager because he already showed me that it was the wrong date. Anyways the manager asked me what was the issue i told him...and i said i thought the receipt was from today...HE WAS SUCH AN ASS ABOUT IT. I have been to that store sooooo many times and he acted so nice but this small situation show that the manager of food city at Dysart and Van buren is an ass. He has very poor customer service skill. I will never go back to this food city again. In the end he was acting like i wanted to get over on them for $2. It was a simple mistake that could have been resolved without making the customer feel badly. read more

I make a trip to Food City on occasion for mexican spices that cant be found other places. I also buy birthday cakes and some other stuff that is way cheaper than other stores. I do get some strange looks being the only white guy in the place but I am ok with it. The store is clean and the workers seem helpful when needed. read more

I gave it 5 stars because we do love this store. The employees are friendly and helpful. The store is clean. My husband and I were there this past Sunday and picked up a few things. The store was very crowded, but the store employees were still all pleasant. That all changed when we got to the register and had a nasty cashier. Really? I don't know her name, but she is heavy set and has tattoos up and down both arms. We were overcharged for something and she was so fresh about it. Unfortunately, I have to leave a bad review because of my HORRIBLE experience. My boyfriend and I were shopping for snacks and from the time we walked in to the store we were being followed by an employee that appeared to be management. The name on the name tag was " Frankie M". We were shopping and we noticed she kept following us very very closely. She then approached us after following us from one side of the store to the other and said I couldn't take pictures (I was snap chatting snacks & other things the store carried that I used). She then said she wanted to see me delete the photos and I refused to do that because I shouldn't have to. She then said she SAW me stealing. I clearly wasn't and asked her "you saw me steal?" & she replied with "yes". I then open my bag and proved that I had nothing in it and then she seemed to have been stuck and said "you must have put it back". I can't believe we were accused of stealing then accused of lying. I can't believe a grown women, let alone supervisor or some sort of management wouldn't just say she was suspicious of someone stealing but actually say she saw it happen. Lying. Very unprofessional and so disrespectful. I then asked her what her full name was because her name tag only has her full first name and not last and she said "I won't give you my last name my first name is Frankie". She then said she was going to call the police, when we did nothing? Okay thanks, I'm not going to argue. We walk to the register and again she's ranting about how we can't take pictures and videos which we already discussed as passed. I told her I will not continue to speak to her and I will be calling someone about this. There was NO reason why my boyfriend and I were followed. We had a basket with snacks and were shopping like any other customer. Never felt so disrespected. Will NOT be returning. read more

While Food City does have excellent tortillas and tortilla chips (the best I've ever had), I have learned not to buy from their meat department. I just recently bought a skirt steak there, and while the top piece seemed fine, when I opened it up at home the piece beneath was completely rancid. It was basically black and green, and on closer inspection of the "good" meat, I saw green spots on there as well. The meat's expiration date was still a few weeks away, so it SHOULD have been good. Never buying meat there again, just going to stick to the tortillas from now on and for the rest shop somewhere else. read more
