We visited Food City in Avondale, AZ when on a trip to the Phoenix area at Christmas. The store was packed with shoppers and well-stocked. The clerk who boxed up the sweet breads we bought was very friendly.

    Torta awesomeness.

I love the food at Food City but today was very disappointing. I ordered red menudo to go and when I got home I had a horrible surprise. The 2 extra large containers were nothing but tripe and I had maybe 100 kernels of homeny. I live a good distance away so I am not taking it back for a refund but I wanted to make sure no one else makes the same mistake. The people who served it should have noticed nothing but tripe was in it and thrown some of the tripe away. I will consider it a donation and last but not least I strongly recommend the carne asada torta it is amazing.

    Tortilla

I go there for the flower tortillas; however , lately it's impossible to separate them without tearing them apart. It's not worth the drive.

Love the chorizo egg and potato burritos

Love food city for so many reasons but, specifically the awesome produce prices and deals. Ever since I was introduced to the very tasty breakfast burritos I am hooked. I definitely tread back to this spot for the great food to dine on while I do some grocery shopping.

Freshly made Bolillo Rolls and Tortilla Chips. Yummy.

Delayed post from about 30 to 45 days ago. For some reason it didn't get on. In addition to my love for the Bolillo rolls, their thin sliced tortilla chips are absolutely delicious. As are their fresh tortillas. While I don't care for their refried beans, they have a pre-made Mexican rice in the Deli section that is really, really good. Also, their everyday prices on produce is typically lower than most stores sale prices.

Who knew a little restaurant inside a grocery store would be so good. Food City is a great everyday low price supermarket. Food city is like every modern supermarket that offers full service meat department, pharmacy items, baked sweets, picnic supplies and a full line of groceries. However, what the other markets cant offer and food city can is a quality line of authentic mexican foods. Food city is where I go to get my homemade tortillas, tortilla chips, and fresh made salsas. As soon as you walk through the doors of Food City you know this is not the normal grocery store. You feel like you entered a new world. There is mexican music playing through out the store, smells of mexican food, mexican baked goods, and authentic Agua Fresca in large glass jars. Tucked in the corner of Food City, is a huge tortilla-making machine. The smell of fresh tortilla in the morning draws you in and you can't avoid the temptation to purchase a few dozen fresh and hot off the press. The food is excellent. Everything is reasonably priced & the portions are big enough that you will take home leftovers. I had a breakfast burrito for just $3.49, and it was big! I have aslo had their pollo asado deal which included a full grilled chicken, rice, beans, salsa and 20 corn tortillas and it was also delicious.

Very dirty store and carts. Went in for the $3.97 per pound T bone steaks. They were prepackaged in 3s. Two of the steaks have absolutely zero filet. Nothing on the other side of the T. They were hiding under the other steak. See pic...one on far right was on top. Others couldn't be seen until package was opened. Total False Advertisement. Those don't qualify as T-bone without the filet.

    More trash outside!

Fine store, with good selections but there are a full problems. The outside is full of trash, and there are homeless people sitting outside. In the inside, the ceiling is very dirty, with the vents full of dust. Also, the outside fan is very loud, it sounds like it needs to be replaced. They either need to fix these issues, or remodel this whole store.

And everything you need for your recipe, from every Latino brand is here. It's in stock, it's clean, it's fresh. The produce looks fresher than Safeway. Baked goods are never stale, at least never anything I have grabbed out of the case. But, I digress because you can look at my headline and see exactly why I am here: for the tacos. If you are smart, you will ask for quesabirra tacos. And, if you are like me and took a lot of Spanish but struggle to speak it - especially when rolling an "rr" is involved - you will quickly find out how *not* smart you are. Because you will be corrected every single time you come here and tell one of their chefs that you want quesabirra (what am I doing wrong?? lol). But, then the chef lets that minor infraction go by and is off to make your tacos, to order. Off to dip a fresh tortilla in perfect red stew and fill it with its tender, savory beef and a generous handful of queso. Then the chef sizzles it up perfectly on la plancha before hustling back over (it's always busy) to the condiment case, where you better be waiting (this isn't the time to go shop!) to indicate what you want on your taco. They have alllll the things, like 10 different salsas, fresh guac, all kinds of taco-ready raw or cooked veggies and concoctions. And that perfect, beefy red consumme is ready for you in that case, for FREE. (As it should be. I was recently charged $3 at taco truck. Travesty!) Don't forget to ask, in case your chef forgets. Then my tacos are all packed up and I'm sent off to the register to pay for them with all the other goodies I have scored. Everyone who works here - and there are a lot of people - is unfailingly kind and helpful and they serve you fast and efficiently. We are here at least every other week after church and it makes for a blessed day!

No doubt about this... and worse, I had to pour out the contents. I stopped there today to let management know that they might have a problem, and when a manager was called, the individual who pleased (before I could get a word out) was rude, so much so that I was shocked. No, floored. His tone was offensive, almost as if there was something else boiling his water. The shift manager who joined him was even worse, a complete lack of respect, condescending, and just downright ugly... almost as if they were both very racist. I've worked as a professional, pilot most of my adult life and I'm used to rude, unpleasant people... but these two take the cake. I learned a long time ago that it pays to break bad news recording the conversation with a cellphone camera, which is exactly what I did. I was concerned that someone is opening these sealed containers as a prank (or worse) -- and don't want to be accused of being guilty of what I was reporting. I wasn't asking for anything: my behavior was proper, level-headed, and neutral; I didn't demand a replacement... in fact, I wasn't able to say anything at all. (I checked: I didn't get a word out.) Maybe it was because I keep my hair short, I'm clean-shaven, my clothes presentable, my countenance neutral and professional, that they think I worked for the U.S. government. Maybe my only mistake is being an older Caucasian. Dunno. My only two options are (1) to break open the screw tops at the register, or (2) stop shopping at Costco. Geez...

Anyways, at 9:38am she checked out. Just an FYI she's with instacart. Anyways I didn't get my stuff until about 10:12-10:15am. Which was LATE. My cottage cheese was even no longer cold too the touch. I changed her tip ONLY bc it took her 1hr to pick my items and then was LATE delivering it. I gave her $1 then I get a nice lil message from her. The bag she claimed she bought was just a BASIC reusable bag which ARE NOT insulated. (I see a lot of delivery drivers use those). So I'm "rude and cheap" bc SHE WAS SLOW AND LATE. I work long hrs and I'm having a tumor removed from me next week, then I gotta deal with this? Even the area where I ordered said tips are NOT required bc the driver gets paid a flat rate, but they are appreciated...apparently NOT. I would of gave her a higher tip if she was actually on time. Oh well. If I get her again...she will get absolutely NOTHING from me after that message Miss Candi J sent me. Just as a FYI I reported her and sent that message through an email which will then be sent to her instacart job. I did mention that the fact it took so long to pick my order and then be late with it was the ONLY reason for the change. I could of gave her $0. Funny thing, if she doesn't need tips, then why complain? Is this really worth losing a job over? Oh and I have been know to by $10. One lady she got $3 through the order then I handed her cash $10. I LOVED that girl, but I don't know her name. She was so fast and sweet. So I'm not always cheap. About my instructions she's talking about. I said don't block my door and ring the door bell. If you don't, then you won't get a tip. She got a tip. It's not like I gave her nothing at all.
