    My Friday night Costco date.
    Tom E.

I've experienced Costco's escort service for the first time in my 30 years as a Costco client. We have been in and out of this store lately evaluating and buying items beyond eggs, bread, coffee and extremely, supremely, exquisitely, globally, healthy snacks. Some 8 foot sun shades caught my eye. The family has several baking south facing walls and windows. Good price, made better than my previous roller shades. You know that Wise Saying of the 21st Century, "Buy it now at Costco. When it is sold out, there will be no more." Friday night, we headed here for shades and gasoline. The shades are packed in rigid, clear 8 feet plus of slick plastic. We loaded four onto our grocery cart. We began navigating aisles packed with shoppers panicked by the nation's recent tariff amusement park construction by a Washington D.C deconstruction crew. The checkout lines at 7:30 p.m. stretch from the hot dog line to the croissant table. We have four slippery eight foot solar shades, weaving our way between palm tree and prune, vitamin and gummy fiber aisles, other shoppers making their way from right and left looking to check out or buy. The plastic wrapped sun shades have zero friction coefficient. They slide forward and sideways as we navigate. People are patient and helpful. This is America, land that I love. Between my wife, hundreds of helpful shoppers, and our communal genius, we reset the sliding boxes, jamming one end into the baby leg openings at the driver end of the cart. We had created a mobile limbo platform. Any one shorter than 66 inches and older than four found a Friday night Costco Limbo Party. Checkout was fast once we got placed and settled. The checkout staff ordered a manager-looking individual for escort and load warnings to speedy cart wheelers on our way to the exit door. Thank You! Then The Queen put the green highlighter srltripe on our receipt, certifying we had successfully loaded and paid for four eight foot rolling shades, from Costco, on a Friday of National Panic. Thank you Costco. Hey kids, you want a fantastic relationship testing Friday night date? Buy something awkward in a crowded Costco. See if you can sail life's seas as an excellent team.

Came here to use rest room after using Costco gas. Wanted to go directly so by showing a staff my Costco membership at exit but they made me walk through the entrance!! It was very annoying tho.

Disappointed in the food court. As an executive member, I went in at 9am and you'd think that the food and treats they sell, especially early morning, would be fresh. This is the very burnt cookie I received. Definitely not what I was expecting.

52.9 oz kimchee on sale for $5.99!

I love Costco and whenever I'm not in my hood, I google to search if there are any Costco's nearby. I am never in Avondale but I happened to be today and so had to go. All Costcos sell their Kirkland brands and their famous $5 rotisserie chicken, but each warehouses stock items based on local demographics and demand. I just knew this location had to have items that my local one doesn't carry. This location had the usual items but I did find some unique items like the tajin chili and lime watermelon rings ( sample), Cacique Crema Mexicana, Pete's Shrimp Ceviche, and Mexican treats. 52.9 oz kimchee was on sale for $5.99 so of course I had to get it so I can make some kimchee pancakes. They also had some fresh sliced beef short ribs for $9.99/lb. I make some delish galbi with it. This is the only location that I've seen a propane cylinder refill station. I know, I need to get a life but I just love Costco:)

The self checkout line was super fast. I was happy to find some beautiful flowers available. As always at almost every Costco, the workers are super friendly and helpful. Thank you!

This location is a fairly standard Costco. Costco stands behind the products they sell. This means higher quality products, and a liberal return policy. Kirkland brand products are made by national brands. Costco's policy is that the store brand products be equivalent or better than their named counterparts. Inventory can change frequently. If there is an astrict on the price tag, more of that item is not expected to come back. If you find an item you like, and the price tag is marked as such, stock up. Outside departments include bakery, pharmacy, hearing aid department, optical, tire center and gas station. Propane tanks are refills are available near the tire shop. Free air for tires is also available near the tire shop. Food court located inside, with indoor seating. The hotdog and soda combo is still $1.50 (plus tax.) This price hasn't changed in over 30 years. Pizzas may be ordered in advance. I will say that we have yet to have a pizza order be ready when requested. Even when the order is placed days in advance. The Avondale Costco is always busy. My last visit was on a Saturday. (I know, I know. I had a new prescription to fill.) That meant long lines to check out, and long lines to exit the store. Surprisingly, only gas didn't have a long line.

They are always stocked with the essentials(beer) and well obviously toilet paper when people do not freak out. They are always someone to help . One down thing is that they are always busy so do your shopping during the weekdays in the morning if you can. My daughter loves the self check out which they are faster at times. A plus, is the drive thru pharmacy! Parking lot wise do not like just because seems to get clustered just because there's some shops right next door(nails spa and Starbucks) and there's a ton of "homeless" people asking for money the same ones walking around the store and parking lot.

This is the closest Fry's to my home, but I always avoid shopping here. The only reason I went…read moretoday was because Instacart sent me an unusually high paying order. Honestly, the rate would have to be very high for me to willingly deal with this store. I imagine other shoppers avoid orders from this location for many of the same reasons. There are frequently no carts available near the entrance, so customers have to walk through the parking lot in 100 to 110 plus degree heat to hunt one down. The metal carts become extremely hot, which is especially difficult when you are also trying to manage a toddler. Today, I arrived around 7:00 p.m., when it was still over 100 degrees outside, and there was a steady line of customers walking through the parking lot looking for carts. To make matters worse, the main entrance was closed. Customers had to walk all the way around and enter through the side that requires you to filter through the checkout lanes just to reach the grocery section. I asked an employee why the main entrance was closed, especially when families with children were walking around outside in extreme heat pushing burning hot carts, but no one could provide a real explanation or seemed particularly concerned. Meanwhile, several employees appeared to be standing around talking. The condition of the store itself is also disappointing. It feels run down and poorly cleaned, and the selection is noticeably worse than at other Fry's locations. They are frequently out of items I need and have a very limited selection of healthier snacks, despite carrying large quantities of highly processed snack foods. The dairy area is especially concerning. There is often a terrible smell when the milk refrigerator is opened, and I regularly see spilled products, debris, or items lying on the floor inside the refrigerated section. The odor alone makes me uncomfortable purchasing milk from this store. I shop at Fry's stores throughout the Valley, including locations in San Tan Valley, Scottsdale, Surprise, and Buckeye, so I have plenty of other locations to compare this one to. This is easily one of the worst Fry's stores I have visited. A new Fry's Marketplace is supposed to open nearby, and I sincerely hope it is placed under completely different management. The surrounding community deserves a grocery store that is clean, properly stocked, safely accessible, and managed with basic consideration for its customers.

And everything you need for your recipe, from every Latino brand is here. It's in stock, it's clean, it's fresh. The produce looks fresher than Safeway. Baked goods are never stale, at least never anything I have grabbed out of the case. But, I digress because you can look at my headline and see exactly why I am here: for the tacos. If you are smart, you will ask for quesabirra tacos. And, if you are like me and took a lot of Spanish but struggle to speak it - especially when rolling an "rr" is involved - you will quickly find out how *not* smart you are. Because you will be corrected every single time you come here and tell one of their chefs that you want quesabirra (what am I doing wrong?? lol). But, then the chef lets that minor infraction go by and is off to make your tacos, to order. Off to dip a fresh tortilla in perfect red stew and fill it with its tender, savory beef and a generous handful of queso. Then the chef sizzles it up perfectly on la plancha before hustling back over (it's always busy) to the condiment case, where you better be waiting (this isn't the time to go shop!) to indicate what you want on your taco. They have alllll the things, like 10 different salsas, fresh guac, all kinds of taco-ready raw or cooked veggies and concoctions. And that perfect, beefy red consumme is ready for you in that case, for FREE. (As it should be. I was recently charged $3 at taco truck. Travesty!) Don't forget to ask, in case your chef forgets. Then my tacos are all packed up and I'm sent off to the register to pay for them with all the other goodies I have scored. Everyone who works here - and there are a lot of people - is unfailingly kind and helpful and they serve you fast and efficiently. Anyways, at 9:38am she checked out. Just an FYI she's with instacart. Anyways I didn't get my stuff until about 10:12-10:15am. Which was LATE. My cottage cheese was even no longer cold too the touch. I changed her tip ONLY bc it took her 1hr to pick my items and then was LATE delivering it. I gave her $1 then I get a nice lil message from her. The bag she claimed she bought was just a BASIC reusable bag which ARE NOT insulated. (I see a lot of delivery drivers use those). So I'm "rude and cheap" bc SHE WAS SLOW AND LATE. I work long hrs and I'm having a tumor removed from me next week, then I gotta deal with this? Even the area where I ordered said tips are NOT required bc the driver gets paid a flat rate, but they are appreciated...apparently NOT. I would of gave her a higher tip if she was actually on time. Oh well. If I get her again...she will get absolutely NOTHING from me after that message Miss Candi J sent me. Just as a FYI I reported her and sent that message through an email which will then be sent to her instacart job. I did mention that the fact it took so long to pick my order and then be late with it was the ONLY reason for the change. I could of gave her $0. Funny thing, if she doesn't need tips, then why complain? Is this really worth losing a job over? Oh and I have been know to by $10. One lady she got $3 through the order then I handed her cash $10. I LOVED that girl, but I don't know her name. She was so fast and sweet. So I'm not always cheap. About my instructions she's talking about. I said don't block my door and ring the door bell. If you don't, then you won't get a tip. She got a tip. It's not like I gave her nothing at all.

Lam's is a medium size market with merchandise squeezed into every nook of the store. The isles are someone narrow and have a dizzying array of things to take in. They have a nice meat market with seafood galore. They also have candy of all types and prepared food for takeout. There's just too much to describe. What I thought was really neat, was that they have isles for each ethnicity; Chinese, Japanese, Filipino and even Jamaican. I was looking for banana sauce for my Lumpia and found that it was not with the other Chinese sauces. I had to look for it in the Filipino section. Interestingly, the crowd there was very diverse. If you need fresh seafood or anything Asian food related, I can't imagine not finding it at Lam's! I will let my photos do the talking.
