I hadn't been here in years and felt it was time to check it out again. I had no problem finding a spot. I backed into one. With my umbrella protecting me from the rain, I headed inside the store to shop. This store has a Starbucks. There used to be a standalone Starbucks store nearby that I liked. It shuttered for good. It's good to know that if I need one, I can come here. I needed celery. The celery looked sad here. It looked abused and bruised. Poor celery. It was slim pickings, but I got some. There were some other items that were in better shape. Mushrooms were great. The hydrangeas looked healthy blooming away. The dairy-free beverage section made me happy. This store has a Joe Fresh section. I like browsing to figure out what styles are cool. The downside to Joe Fresh clothing is that articles that I have purchased in the past don't last long. I find that the quality isn't great. This place has portabella jerky. It isn't cheap, but it's nice seeing meatless alternatives. I was also happy with the Russell Stover candy varieties. I love this brand so much. I headed to the checkout and had a nice woman assist me. I paid with a debit card. I scanned my PC Optimum barcode from my phone. All went well. I thanked her and left with my purchases. It's a good store. If it brings healthier-looking celery, it would get full marks. (142)

I bought beer so I had to go through the checkout line with cashier, a bit slow as it was 9pm, less cashiers. I also bought the veggie sticks snack for $2, on sale. One time, after she dropped off her car, we walked over to this store to shop and have lunch at Montana's. Ah, memories! Last Monday, I was in the area to attend a farewell dinner for a dear friend. I was early and decided to drop by this store. It was windy and spitting rain. I parked fairly close to the entrance at around 7:30 pm and walked in. It still has a bright, clean vibe to the store. I checked out the top floor. There are still cooking classes happening and the washrooms are there. You can either take the stairs up or use the elevator. This store is still massive. I like browsing the Joe Fresh clothes and seeing what's trendy, because I am not... haha! There were a decent number of reduced items, such as pajamas and sweaters. I enjoyed looking at the nail polish brands and varieties. It's cheaper buying your nail polish here than at a drug store. Naturally, I looked at the snacks. I love the cookie section so much that it was tough getting me out of it. I need to try more of the fancy creme-filled cookies. I pass by this store when I head home from work. I need to drop by more often. I had forgotten how much I enjoy shopping here. (372)

I also like earning Scene+ points when I get groceries. I came here after seeing a Saturday matinee movie at the Cineplex SilverCity in Richmond Hill. Normally, I got to the FreshCo in Richmond Hill. Instead, I wanted something different and visited this grocery store for the first time. It was a ten-minute drive over, which was fine. There was plenty of parking. I backed into a spot. I heard a motor running the entire time that I was near my car. It was powering an amp that a man had for his violin. He was playing songs and busking in the parking lot. More on that later. I like Sobey's. Markham doesn't have one. This FreshCo does have that Sobey's feel. Aisles are wider. It is spacious and clean. I came to get fruit. The strawberries from Mexico looked ripe and yummy. I also got a bag of gala apples. I needed celery. The selection wasn't as pristine, but I did get what I needed. It didn't look horrible. What's special about this store is a massive kosher foods section. It was impressive, with fridges everywhere. I was here for paratha. It was on sale. I was happy. Naturally, I picked up Dare cookies. I nabbed the last box of coconut. I also got a box of Celebration raspberry truffle cookies. I was excited to see Coke orange cream here. It was in regular and zero sugar. Yes! I got a case of twelve zero sugar. I like that each FreshCo store is different. This one had empanadas, crepes, and pancakes. They were all in the frozen food section. I got a package of beef empanadas. I am looking forward to trying them. I got a nice female staffer at the checkout. She scanned my Scene+ barcode off my phone. I paid with a credit card. I tapped and all was good. I loaded my groceries in my reusable Longo's bag (there's a Longo's across the street that I've been to and liked), thanked the woman, and left. I put away my groceries in my car, found a loonie, and added it to the violin guy's tip jar. He had a sign saying that he was supporting five kids. It was windy and I appreciated the effort. His playing was flat at times during Hallelujah. I felt like I was being harsh. He was in front of a grocery store. It's not like he was performing with the symphony with better acoustics and needed perfect pitch! This grocery store rocks. I'm glad that I did my grocery run here. (84)

What a fabulous find in the middle of downtown!…read more Fantastic selection of various Asian fresh, frozen and pantry staples - imported & local. It's mostly focused on Chinese ingredients, but they have enough items for Korean and Japanese that you can get by with in a pinch. They also seem to have separate mini boutiques for assorted tchotchkes and beauty products which I didn't investigate. The store looked pretty new and very clean. They also had an impressive array of hot and cold foods to-go that looked quite good, although I didn't try any. If I have any complaint, it is the fact that most of the vegetables are prepackaged in miles of plastic wrap and styrofoam... it is shocking to see. But aside from that, I'd have to say this beats the T&T by a good margin, and I am a T&T devotee from when they opened their first store in Burnaby in the early 90's!

Outside of your everyday Asian products, they had a lot of prepared food - sushi, side dishes, including kimchi, etc, dim sum, fried foods, hot buffet with all your popular Chinese foods. Skip the kimchi, the dim sum was decent and the food from the buffet was worth it. Check out moves quickly, the staff behind the buffet were very helpful. Make sure to bring your own bag.

This Food Basics occupies a good portion of the second floor. I was here to hit the food court. The stall with fried soup baos and wonton soup is my favourite. Nanashake used to also be here, but it closed. Soul Made has taken over this stall. Because I was here for food court takeout, I needed a place to park. I normally park out on the street and pay through my Green P app. I did something different and parked in the underground lot. You can get complimentary parking for 45 minutes if you go up to Food Basics. Locate a standalone kiosk where you register your car's licence plate for 45 minutes of free parking. It was an easy process and such a nice gesture. If you do need more time, you are urged to use the Honk app (I'd assume that you can also do it through a browser) and pay for more parking time. I didn't need extra time. Instead, I did a quick look at this store before I left. It's a decent grocery store. It's bright and nicely organized. The produced looked fresh, especially the lettuce and celery. There were a bunch of cashiers working the checkout area. I was there mid-afternoon and there was a decent stream of shoppers hitting this store. I didn't need to get groceries, but I enjoyed popping in to briefly browse. I look forward to going back and shopping here, especially with complimentary parking. The trend these days is to have grocery stores built in to a high rise condo or building. It seems to work nicely to have this Food Basics on the second floor. I like the change coming here than hitting my local standalone one in suburbia. (329)
