I just had my wedding here on June 4th, 2016. We rented the hall for a large 400 person wedding…read moreand since we live in New Jersey, we not only had to deal with the complications of long distance planning but we had the extra difficult task of trying to get a hold of anyone capable of answering our questions. We chose Cedars Hall because there are not many venues in the Twin Cities that can fit a wedding that large. It also helped that my sister had gotten married there 5 years ago so we were familiar with the layout and location. Unfortunately, over the last 5 years, many things have changed. The rules and regulations are clearly written out but when speaking with the event manager himself, we found that a lot of these rules and regulations seemed to change depending on his preferred working hours. For example, the rental regulations and policies clearly state that "Delivery of food is allowed only during the times of 10am to 4pm." We found in the days leading up to the wedding that on Saturday (Wedding Day), we would not have access to the Hall at all until 4pm. Why that was exactly seemed to be more due to the lack of personnel willing to work on that Saturday. So in the last few days leading up to the wedding, we had to call our caterer, the bakery that was delivering the wedding cake and the liquor store to change all their delivery times to past 4pm on Saturday. In addition, because we only had the hall for 4 hours for decoration purposes, we asked Cedars Hall to provide us with "people who they'd used for decoration help in the past". We paid them close to $20 per person per hour only to find on that Friday that the helpers provided included the event manager's wife and his daughter, including a few other people who clearly were there just to earn an easy $20 per hour. One of the person who was supposedly "helping" us even went so far as to yell at my mother because she asked them to do something instead of standing around. A few of my friends and family who were there to help actually asked me if it was possible to "fire" some of the hired help. Unfortunately, we paid upfront for the help. What really upset me as the bride was my inability to get a hold of the event manager at Cedars Hall. I called his office phone, his cell phone and emailed him over the course of a week and never received either a call back or an email answering any of my questions (keep in mind, I was doing all the planning 1200 miles away). Finally, my dad took the drastic measure of driving over and stalking around the grounds until someone told him that no one was there over Memorial weekend. This person then called the event manager who finally was able to answer our most urgent answer of when we could have access to the hall for decoration purposes. The following Tuesday when we flew in, we drove directly to Cedars Hall as clearly that was the only way to get a hold of anyone there and further clarified everything from where the band would be set up to whether we'd have access to any of the other rooms for changing purposes. Lastly, in spite of the regulation clearly stating that bottles of champagne "are allowed outside of the bar area for wedding champagne toasts only. The Lessee, or his agent, must provide AND serve the champagne." When we pressed on this issue again and again, we were told that we had two options: 1) Either every single guests at the wedding would have to bring their glass up to the bar to have champagne poured there or 2) they would have to close the bar for however long it took for the two bartenders to come around and pour champagne at the tables. This is clearly in spite of their written policy that states that we were to provide the champagne and serve it. I would NOT recommend to anyone planning a wedding or a large event to consider Cedars Hall. I could not have had a worse experience. The event manager there only cares about collecting your money. Once they have your 50% deposit, they could not care less how your event goes. Weddings are some of the biggest and most expensive events in life and Cedars Hall managed to make it absolute nightmare for us. As the bride, I weathered every single one of these issues as well as possible but I know that most brides would probably have broken down in tears and/or threatened legal action for breach of contract. Either way, be forewarned and just DON'T fall in the same trap I did.

We googled and compared reviews of local officiants. We wanted to hire someone that was affordable and able to direct a rehearsal. We got paired with Cara Tollefson through Minnesota Officiants. We had a sit down to meet Cara at a location that was convenient for the three of us. When we met Cara she gave us a lot of information and answered all of our many questions. We instantly got a good vibe from her. Although the cost of services was a little more than we had budgeted we recognized it was due to the fact that we wanted rehearsal time to be added in there. Cara didn't once pressure us to pay any kind of deposit but instead simply explained that if we wanted to pursue her services that we just needed to mail in a signed contract and a deposit. After we sent the deposit within the week she sent us a ceremony planner. This walked us through all the elements of the wedding with many options of each. With this planner we were able to pick and choose our readings, ritual, opening/closing remarks, etc. There was plenty flexibility to get as traditional or unique as we wanted. We opted for a simple and short non-denominatial ceremony. Cara was very responsive and helpful via email and even offered to meet in person as needed. Cara was absolutely fabulous!! The day before at the rehearsal we walked through everything and that was VERY helpful. I appreciate that she was willing to rehearse with us. She did a fabulous job of directing everyone. The ceremony felt so personal and everything she said was heartfelt. I'm sure she does a ton of weddings and it meant so much that she was genuinely happy and excited for us. She had an amazing energy and many people commented on what an wonderful job she did. Our wedding day was so special, it meant so much to have Cara there! I'm so happy we trusted our guts with our first meeting. She was absolutely fabulous and facilitated a beautiful and meaningful ceremony.

She came to my house and picked everything up the weekend before. Called all my vendors a few days out to make sure everyone knew where they needed to be and at what time. She gave me all kinds of great tips and recommendations. Because of the venue I got married at, there was no dressing area for me to hide in, so I didn't arrive at the wedding until it was time to walk down the aisle. I hadn't seen the venue decorated until then. I could not stop looking around. She made my wedding more beautiful than I imagined it would. If she was stressed out, it didn't show. The following Monday, I got confirmation from Wedding Day Sparklers that our order would be shipped to our billing address, not our shipping address. Per the email they sent, I immediately emailed within 5 minutes to correct the address and also called the number and left a message. I assumed that it was taken care of until later that day I got confirmation from FedEx that my shipment was headed to the wrong destination. After several more emails and a bunch of phone calls that never received a response, I did some more research and was able to contact the brick and mortar store that they share space with. After talking with the shop owner there, I was able to get a response by email. In the end, they were able to redirect my package and I received it in time for my wedding at the correct address and for that I appreciate their help. The frustrating part was the lack of initial response and generally poor communication. It's clear to me now that they do not answer the phone or respond to voicemail. Response by email was often delayed which just added a lot of unnecessary stress leading up to my wedding day. I was satisfied with the product, but not with the customer service.
