They seemed to have a nice crowd of locals, so we decided to give it a try. Wow! I'm so happy we did. The service was very fast. The waiter was very friendly. The food was very tasty, and there was lots of it! For my first dish, I ordered a salad with jamón Ibérico. Not only were all of the ingredients fresh, crispy and flavorful, they served it with a very generous slice of Ibérico. Good stuff! My second course was broiled cod. It was seasoned expertly, and I enjoyed every morsel. Oh, and the bread they served was fresh out of the oven, baked moments earlier at a panedería around the corner. The beer was cold. The dessert was sweet. What's not to love? I still wonder how the other restaurants in town stay in business, when they charge so much more?

While on a tour, my tour group and I had some time to break for lunch, shopping, and sightseeing. I passed by Couteaux Fourchette and didn't immediately walk in as I wanted to explore the other dining options available. Well, let me be the first to tell you that there aren't too many options in this tiny town. I circled back around and the Gentleman whom I assumed to be the manager welcomed me immediately. The restaurant is tucked away in a small alleyway that's located right in the center of town. What I've learned about European alleyways is that they are nothing like American alleyways. You want to find those hidden alley gems when you see them.   Their cute little alley patio space is super relaxing and enticing. I sat on the patio and enjoyed a glass of some delicious French white wine that I had never had or even heard of before. As versed as I am in American wines, I must admit that I haven't had much exposure to Southwestern French varietals. This was a new experience for me as was the delectable meal that I consumed whilst I was here. Pyrenean Pork confit simmered in French onions over potatoes and topped with melted local cheese. When I tell you that this pork just melted in my mouth... just wow! It was so tender and delicious. It was like juices from the pork and onions saturated the potatoes underneath because they were super moist and flavorful. Never would have thought to put melted cheese on top of this concoction, but it was literally the best part of the entire meal! Swirling my fork around in the cheese and pulling those lovable strings of gooey goodness was just... mmmm! Loved every second of this meal. Every. Damn. Second. I guess the other passerby's noticed my joyous facial expressions as I basically dove head first into this mouthwatering meal. They all started swarming into the restaurant, and a few of my tour group mates joined me outside and ordered lunch there as well. I love that this place has food specials for tourists. The service was great and the ambience is so beautiful. You will definitely get the true French experience here! I'm still dreaming about that delicious food and wine. Not sure that I'd make it back to this place anytime soon. But if and when I find myself back in Ax-Les-Thermes, I'd be headed here again no questions asked.

Set in the historic old city of La Seu d'Urgell, the inside of pKTus is sleek and modern. It seats no more than 25 people and specializes in "flatbreads" -- but not what you're thinking. Beautiful bread, fresh local vegetables and amazingly creative dishes and presentation. I don't give out too many five star ratings... pKTus is so deserving with great service, incredible wine list and delicious food. The tomato salad was amazing, the vinegar anchovy flatbread and cuttlefish and meatball flatbreads were remarkable and the zucchini carpaccio was also heavenly.

We sat at one of the tables in the plaza, which allowed the kids to run arround between servings. We had patatas bravas, chorizo, pan con tomate, olives with anchovies and my kids had an enormous hamburger topped with chèvre. The meal was truly excellent. The chorizo was simmered in a wine sauce which we subsequently used as a dip for bread.... beautiful. After this feast we had squid with risotto in an ink sauce. It was a bit salty, but the squid was fresh and the ink sauce was so good we asked for more bread.
