Just back from a 2 Night Stay at The Follansbee Inn. Another wonderful trip. The Inn has been Hosting In-house concerts once a month for about a year. We drove up to listen to "The Jovial Crew" Saturday. This group performs Shanty, folklore rich songs of the sea, pub and more. Amazing vocals from the guys and a chance to join in to sing along. This was a BYOB event, a traditional Grog mix was provided by the Inn Keepers (non alcoholic) to which you could add the "Spirit"that you brought with you. House made Desserts were included with admission. They even had some themed treats, Hardtack and Joe Froggers. If you were staying at the Follansbee Inn, admission for the concert was included. For locals, tickets were available at the door. But, stay at the Inn for an overnight, their Breakfasts are included and amazingly delicious. read more

This is a great B&B for a get away. It is an NE style Inn with nice rooms and an amazing breakfast cooked by Dennis. This place is not a cookie cutter minimalist hotel, it feels like a home. The lake is across the street and the dock provides a wonderful view of the hills and Loon Island. With the ample choices of seating, a hammock, canoes and Kayaks one has no problem finding something to enjoy. Thank you Dennis for your hospitality and the wonderful food. read more

Fantastic "get-away" trip!!! Warm, cozy, super clean, and fabulous. Host, Denis, is there (with his behind-the-scenes incredible staff) to make you feel incredibly welcome and relaxed. Inn is on a beautiful lake very inviting with kayaks at the ready. Close to hikes, colleges, skiing and some of the most gorgeous walks you can imagine. Breakfast is wayyyy over the top, made with love and lots of nutrition. (You won't need lunch after Denis' breakfast!!) Awesome place. Very cozy and comfortable. I was there in the summer. Kayaks are available for guests to use on Keyser Lake where we spotted Loons and bald eagles. Nice lake front area with a dock. The Inn has a very nice common area to sit back and relax, do a puzzle or play a game. I didi a puzzle. The breakfast was delicious, set up as a buffet and was plentiful. Coffee always available. The owner is very nice. I went there to get away for a couple of days. Nice place to unwind. I highly recommend it. read more

A very sweet, quiet, comfortable place to stay! We stayed in the Jennifer room which was perfect for two friends traveling together. There's a king bed in the main bedroom as well a twin bed in its own little nook. The rooms are basic but comfortable with everything you'd need. The inn itself is an old sprawling New England house and funky with lots of interesting details. Not fancy, but tastefully decorated. The inn has a friendly host, Dennis, who is available and accommodating. We took the canoe out one day and a two person kayak the next. The lake was so peaceful and beautiful! It's a very rural area so it's not a hot vacation spot, it seems like a lot of family owned homes rather than vacation rentals. There's not a whole lot to do so plan to bring a book, a swimsuit (in summer), and a willingness to unplug. We drove around and found a sculpture garden and several covered bridges. In the winter it would be cozy too, with a wood stove and a parlor with games. We had dinner at the Flying Goose Brew Pub, which was just fine. Basic American food (good but no frills), friendly staff, and only about 5 minutes from the inn. Breakfast at the inn was incredible... home made hash, poached eggs with hollandaise, hot biscuits, fresh fruit, coffee and juice. I'd go back in a heartbeat! read more

280 dollars for a family suite and my family did not have a good time. There was NO air conditioner in 90 degree weather , yet it is advertised that they have A.C. There was a single fan in the window and my family was on the 3rd floor. This did not go well with 2 little ones. Toilet would not flush and smelled awful . The adult bed was old and had broken springs. It was a mistake booking a room here and a waste of alot of money. No one enjoyed thier stay. read more

Seeking a special getaway to the Lake Sunapee region, we opted for this B+B in nearby North Sutton on its own little Kezar Lake. What a lovely place to stay. Our first afternoon upon check-in we borrowed a kayak available to Follansbee Inn guests to explore the lake, seeing a closeup a trio of loons diving for fish and making their unique bird sound. Guests may also use the inn's canoes and bikes. Breakfasts are a notable feature at Follansbee Inn, prepared by Dennis, the chef/owner. Each morning Denis prepared a hot full selection of Creole cuisine fare. One day we enjoyed wild blueberry waffles, fresh fruit, a meaty dish and cheesy grits, the next day egg frittata, melon and a wonderful Angel flaky biscuit. Yummy. Several good restaurants are in the area towns of New London/Newbury/Sutton and Sunapee. Be sure to visit the John Hay estate at "The Fells" and take a lake cruise on the MV Sunapee and try to stay at the Follansbee Inn during fall foliage time as the reflection of the tree-lined Kezar Lake will surely be breathtaking. read more

I could not give this place a high enough rating. Dennis greeted me by name, we had a nice clean well equipped room. It truly is the best of the last. Dennis gave me a tour of the place, through the lounge area, dining area, bar, and office. There was a cheese platter set up for guests. In the morning, we had a wonderful breakfast of potatoes with shallots and roasted garlic, a French toast, fresh squeezed juice and homemade treats. Would recommend this place to anyone read more

Just finishing up a 2 week stay at this quaint country inn. A beautiful setting and a well cared for building. The owner, Denis, cooked up a unique breakfast with something different every day, usually inluding at least one Louisiana specialty (Denis's home state), and fresh fruit. My grandmother's family has been going to the Follansbee Inn and Kezar Lake since sometime around 1911. It's pretty amazing that a century later it remains a lovely and special place. My family has seen the Follansbee through many innkeepers and Dave and Cathy are definitely among the best. This beautiful old inn retains its historic charm in the Colonial-inspired decor, antiques, and the original and historical transom doors (doors with built in "air-conditioning"). At the same time, Dave and Cathy have made tasteful renovations, including expanding many of the bathrooms and creating a few suites. The Follansbee is great for a relaxing weekend or mid-week break. The lake is beautiful and you can spend your time walking, taking out one of the inn's boats, relaxing on the porch, or chatting with Dave, whose outgoing personality encourages low-key socializing between guests. Cathy's breakfasts are also amazing. I've been trying to replicate her gingerbread waffles for years. You get the best of New England inns at the Follansbee--and it comes with five-generations of my family's seal of approval! read more

We just returned for a long weekend getaway to this quiet, serene inn nestled in the quiet residential area on Kezar Lake. The inn is historical and pristine. You are surrounded by art work, beautiful plants and fine antiques. If this is not enough the best is yet to come! During this COVID conscience time all steps are taken to maintain adherence to CDC guidelines. The breakfasts are memorable and indescribable. Very much enjoyed our stay...was just as we had hoped. The breakfast was AMAZING! Best pull apart "monkey" bread I've ever had, oozing with syrup, cinnamon & pecans. Could have eaten the whole platter!! And the egg breakfast stromboli was perfect. Loved that they have bikes to ride around Kezar lake, or just hang at their lake front across the street. We had an extremely enjoyable experience here. Dennis was a great host, allowing guests to use his bicycles, canoes and kayaks, life jackets and pretty much anything else on the property. It is a peaceful area with plenty of activities and adventure I'd you are seeking it, otherwise a great place to chill out. Dennis is a fantastic chef, the food was unique and delicious. If I had one suggestion, the cleaning products left the room smelling a little chemically, and I'm a bit sensitive to artificial fragrance. We've reserved two days for Valentine's day , Friday and Saturday . This B & B was very nice and cozy. The rooms were comfortable and we had all we needed. Grace and Brandon were kind and very helpful with all the questions we had. The breakfast made by Dennis (owner), it has wonderful waffle and all we could eat. Besides, angel (Dennis's dog) was such good behavior and adorable dog and my daughter love her so much . After we spend a perfect Friday night there, miserable Saturday coming .The blizzard will start on Saturday and we must drive back same day . We stayed at the inn for two nights during Columbus Day weekend. The surroundings are spectacular. The inn also provides free boats (there's a beautiful lake across the street) and bikes. Our room was quaintly decorated and well kept. And it got tidied-up during our stay, which is something I haven't encountered much in Bed and Breakfasts where we've stayed for more than a night. The owners are really friendly, and the inn is a charming place. Breakfast is great as well. It's a keeper! read more

Amazing breakfasts and fun kayaking on the lake!

My husband and I came here recently after our wedding to relax and recharge for a few days- we were not disappointed!! We had an amazing time relaxing by the lake, kayaking, and biking. For any wildlife enthusiasts- Loon Island, in the middle of Kezar lake is full of birds, turtles, frogs, etc (including, as you might guess, a loon that swam right next to our kayak!), and if you can find the feeder stream, there is a very cool beaver damn, along with more animals As the other reviews state, breakfast was delicious!! We found ourselves excited each morning to find out what Dennis was concocting for the meal :) Thank you Follansbee Inn for giving us a great end to our wedding weekend- we can't wait to come back! read more

This place was a wonderful escape from NYC! My bf (30) and I (26) were looking for a B&B where we could enjoy falls changing colors and we couldn't have found a more perfect place! Location/activities For starters it is right on a lake which doesn't get much traffic. We saw 3 or 4 boats on the water during the 4 days we were there and noticed very few cars in the area other than inn guests. The Inn has a sail boat, kayaks, canoes, a paddle boat, and MANY bikes for guests to use free of charge. The road around the lake is about a 1.3 mile circle, perfect for a morning run or afternoon bike ride. There is a corner store called The Vernondale Store, GO THERE! They have everything you may have forgotten at home and things you didn't even know you needed. They also serve breakfast, lunch, dinner, and desert. If you decide that you don't need anything then still go there! This store is a museum of antiques which the store owner is very happy to talk to you about. Decor/amenities The Inn itself if decorated beautifully! There are antiques mixed with unique furniture and breakfast it served on beautiful china. They also provide shampoo, soap, conditioner, towels, blow dryer, corkscrews, bottle stoppers, every kind of glass imaginable, candies in every common room, magazines, books, a stocked game room, multiple extra blankets, a variety of flavored coffee, many different teas, water bottles, walking sticks, umbrellas, in room heaters, your own bathroom (some with amazing claw foot tubs,) and friendly hosts. Crowd The crowd was a little older which was great because they kept the noise level down, at least until baseball was brought up in which case everyone joined in with their opinions. The environment facilitated a lighthearted environment, if you wanted to seclude yourself that was made easy but if you wanted to make new friends then everyone seems happy to accept you. Due to all the great amenities I was shocked we didn't meet more couples closer to us in age. It was an unexpected surprise how enjoyable it was to interact with people from different parts of the country of all different ages. We absolutely loved it! Now my favorite part... FOOD!!! Oh My Goodness Denis is such a good cook! I expected Bisquick pancakes and cereal. Boy was I wrong! Some of the food we had for breakfast was french toast stuffed with cream cheese walnut filing, fresh fruit, praline bacon, homemade pecan butternut waffles, maple apple sausage, baked cheese grits, sausage hash, angel biscuits,baked veggie or sausage omelets, and fresh squeezed orange and cranberry juice. Everything is homemade and has some love in it all the way down to the heart shaped butter. Tip: Bring nice outfits to go out at night in! Not all restaurants in the area are "classy" places where you are expected to dress up. But the ones we went to were and we were slightly under dressed. Plus the town is maybe 50% locals 50% tourists and all tourists were dressed up. Pleasant Lake Inn Restaurant is a great intimate place, dress recommended for women and a blazer for men. The crab cakes were the best I've ever had! Also get there early to enjoy the view before the sun sets. This review is a little old, we stayed our one and only time a while back, but I felt I should share my experience. We arrived late on a Friday, I had already arranged to have our key left for us and through email the owners seemed very accommodating. Our room was okay, bed was a little small for us. No big deal really. Here is the reason for the one star rating. The female owner was incredibly rude to me during my stay in a couple separate occasions. She was very snarky to me when we checked in the next morning after arriving. Then Sunday morning when we got up for their "famous" breakfast, I went to the wrong coffee station, mind you there are no signs to distinguish which coffee station were for guest or staff, she snatch a mug out of my hand and then told me where to get my coffee in a very short tone. It was crowed in the breakfast area, there were no tables open that were cleaned off, so I sat at a table that had dirty dishes at it. The female owner came up to the my table and told me,"if you are going to insist on sitting here, you need to get your own clean plate and silverware from a another table. Honestly, the breakfast wasn't great. I felt the whole experience was ruined by the owners attitude. I know we will never stay there. For the amount that you are paying a night. I would hope for a better experience. read more

Bring your outdoor clothes--you will spend lots of time on the lake! My husband and I stayed here for three nights in June. Denis has anticipated every interest. We did everything from going on the lake (he provides an array of canoes, kayaks, row boats and paddle boats), to walking the 3-mile road around the lake, to sitting inside playing games, to just sleeping in the hammock that is right next to the lake. Additionally, there are several bicycles for you to use though we did not use them ourselves. You'll be glad that the activity causes you to work up an appetite because the breakfast is spectacular. Denis provides a breakfast that is nutritional (not hum-drum continental cereals and croissants--we're talking REAL food), beautifully displayed, and cooked to perfection. You get to eat in a lovely dining room with place settings, so you feel like you are being pampered every morning. While we were not traveling with small children, I did see other families that were quickly accommodated for with booster seats and child-friendly dishes and cereals. So, there is something for everyone once again. Our room was very clean and had a large bathroom. There were plenty of places to sit and store your items, and we never felt cramped or uncomfortable. Denis does have free Wi-Fi that works well. There are no TVs as fitting for such a relaxing place. The inn itself is a sight to behold as it dates back to the early 1800s. For history lovers, there is an adjacent old church and cemetery full of names that you recognize in the area (for instance, the Kezar family). We saw dates on headstones from the 1700s. You can really start to appreciate the area when you think of how many people have enjoyed the peaceful mountains and lake through the centuries. There is plenty to do in nearby areas and several good eateries. Ask Denis to recommend a place. Craft brewing is huge in the area, so check out local breweries and purchase locally-made items. If you want to just lie low for the evening, there's a general store with a counter and stools that serves sandwiches, burgers, hotdogs, etc. We ate there twice and couldn't believe the cheap prices. You really get to talk to locals this way, too. The general store is across the road from the inn. Enjoy your stay, and be sure to rub Angel's belly and watch her fetch her ball from the lake! A traditional lakefront mountain B&B with an Adirondack feel whose whole is greater than its parts. Spacious...clean...activities galore (no TV ...hooray). I went skiing at Mount Sunapee this past weekend I was looking for a place that was not your standard hotel, motel or condo and that offered Suites and The Follansbee Inn came through in more ways than I possibly imagined. First it is a beautiful family friendly Inn and it has suites and continguous rooms that they offer as a package together at a family rate when available. Second, breakfast comes with the room and it was made from scratch by the hosts whose home cooking was like no other I have ever experienced. The breakfast one day included the fluffiest omlette I have ever seen or had the pleasure of tasting, naturally processed bone in ham, tartes, biscuits that melted in your mouth (I am getting hungry writing this). Third we were close enough but just the right distance to have a country feeling. Door to chairlift it was thirty minutes to Mount Sunapee. When we arrived back after skiiing there were great options for eating and the bar and gaming areas were great. There is a fridge where we stored drinks for apres skiing. read more

We have been coming to the Follansbee Inn for several years now and every visit has been wonderful. The location is sublime as the Inn is perched on the shores of sleepy little Kezar lake in the town of North Sutton. The breakfasts are always top notch and the lake offers a variety of activities including canoeing, kayaking, mountain biking, hiking or simply lounging in the water side hammock (my favorite). Renovations to Vernondale, an old country store located across the street from the Inn, have restored it to its original 1930s glory. Stepping through the front screen door you will find an old fashioned soda fountain, excellent local homemade ice cream and many original antique pieces throughout the store. The Inn itself has changed ownership in recent years and it is great to see that the new owner; Dennis has maintained the charms and character of this classic New England gem. This is the perfect place to escape from the over stimulation of todays hyper charged world. I found this Inn due to a request from my Wife for a place on a mountain lake with Loons for her "special" birthday. When we got there, saw the location, our room, the facillities, I knew I found the perfect place, she loved it. The Inn is exactly what we were looking for, a place with history, quaint, but very comfortable, and quiet, but with plenty of things to do and places to see. We walked the trails, biked around, sailed and canoed the lake, sat in the swings, and just enjoyed the whole experience. The new owners were VERY accommodating and friendly and have wonderful plans for this beautiful, historic inn. We ended up eating our delicious and special breakfasts with some of the other guests, instead of sitting by ourselves, which is an option, since, as we found, the people who come to this inn are interesting to meet and talk to. Yes, my only gripe was that my wife and I could only stay one night and not experience the B & B life for more than one day; nor could we take advantage of the natural resources surrounding the inn. Next time, I will bring my road bike, running shoes and goggles. Our rooms were quaint, comfortable and beautifully decorated. We loved being a part of an old established inn that was built over a century ago. Dennis and Kat were lovely people and did everything to make our stay delightful.
