It pains me to write this review of what used to be one of my favorite stores. And I was a sad as…read moreanyone when I saw they had to close over a year ago due to a fire. And just as happy when they announced they'd found a new space and were planning to reopen. I have to say, having visited there a few times now, I'm pretty disappointed. The new space is still downtown, but a few blocks west of their previous location. Where parking was free at that spot, it's metered at this one. When I think of all the vacant retail spaces in town, many with parking lots or at least free street parking, it leaves me perplexed. And the new space itself is so incredibly small and disjointed. It's separated into multiple, small rooms. Their inventory is but a shadow of its former self. And the prices have gone up. Wayyyy up. Perhaps most perplexing is the complete lack of classroom space, which they'd gone to so much trouble to add in their own space. Combined all of this with semi-surly, N95'd employees and well... to put it simply...I don't see the appeal in returning here anytime soon. For now, I miss the old Ragfinery and hope they turn things around.

It is so worth it for the service and great fabric selection . She was able to pick out a lot of turtle type Fabrics that I was looking for throughout the store , Plus a unique variety of sea life fabric . They also have their own printed Sasquatch fabric and Washington State Outdoor Fabric . Absolutely must-see. It is totally on my top3 favorite list of fabrics store:)

So, even though it's a bit off the beaten path, Calico Creations has become a place I can rely on to grab the perfect fabric for my latest project. So I try to stop there when I'm passing near (or through) MV. They carry all of the major designers and latest lines. From modern prints by Tula Pink and Kaffe Fassett to more traditional calicos and Civil War style fabrics, you will find it here. Not to mention they have an extensive collection of solids and blender fabrics, baby fabrics, pattern books and even some pre-cuts (not many, but I'll take it). Not in a sewing mood? Find inspo from their ever-rotating samples adorning their windows and walls. On a budget? They have an impressive (and huge) sale area in the back, where fabric is $10/yard (or lower). My only criticism is their small space. They could easily fill a shop twice the size, and as a result many MANY of their bolts are sitting on the floor. They try to keep it organized, and do a pretty good job, but it bears mentioning you'll need to "file" through bolts on the floor that aren't as easy to view as the ones on the shelves.

Some days the wait can be long for cutting tables, but they are always super at helping me find the right fabrics for my projects. Like any retail store, they can't be expected to be fully staffed 100% of the time - it's a best guess as to how busy they are going to get. I like the selection (although I wish for more jersey knit choices!)
