This doctor is great at seeing eyes that other optometrists miss. I've visited three different optometrists in the past and after being prescribed glasses from each, I noticed that it was a bit fuzzy with distance. Dr. Chen is very knowledgable where others have come short, as she spotted a slight astigmatism in my eye and made corrections accordingly, leading me to see clearer than before. read more

Dr is exceptional, conversive & informative. Seemed a lil hurried though. She hired the right man-Friday if she wants people leaving disatisfied. That guy won't give you the time of day. If you ask for further information or understanding of your prescription forget it, need your pupil distance? Oh you can forget about it. Very corrective to the customer, I'm not an optometrist, my apologies sir if I need further explanation. I'm allowed to understand. Yes, they except medi-cal, but dont respect you as "those people" I never have had to deal with medi-cal and worked all my life only to be put in the throw away box by him. Humiliated. Dr Chen may be a good doctor but her customer service is totally lacking. One has to wait a month to get an appointment even if she has seen you before, but if your glasses break she has no customer service to help patients if glasses or parts of glasses break. Customer Service is lacking. My bifocals were not properly fitted. The desk clerk said I would have to pay for a new exam and glasses. They do not stand behind their work. They said that since I had the exam before I got my glasses they do not think that my prescription or fitting is wrong. They did NOT fit my glasses AFTER they received them.. They just opened the door, handed the glasses to me and closed and locked the door. They never fitted the glasses to me yet they say they were fitted correctly. UGH!!! read more

I recently decided to try Focus and was very pleased that I did. The doctor was knowledgeable and helped me switch to contacts which fit my lifestyle much better than my glasses did. The staff in office was very kind, patient, and helpful. Prices were really good as well. Contacts from this office were the same as the cheapest price I could find online. I had no issues in receiving a copy of my prescription from the doctor as well. The staff at the front were very helpful. Overall very pleased and will continue to be a patient here. read more

Dr. Jennifer Chen is young, eager, kind, knowledgeable and helpful. I was a patient of Dr. Mallory's before he passed and wasn't looking forward to a new eye doc, but when I had my first appointment with Dr. Chen I was immediately at ease. She is willing to try new things and very willing to listen to patients and their wants/needs, which is extremely important. At times there's a considerable wait at the office, but that just means she's thorough (and who isn't used to a wait at a doctor's office?). So I read the Yelp reviews before going to this Optometrist and I am SO glad that I found the most current review the most useful. My appointment was at 1:30 and I was done with the dr. by 2:00 the rest of the time I was trying to pick out the right pair of glasses. The Dr. and staff were EXTREMELY nice and this was my first time ever having an eye exam so they explained the process to me with ease. I was torn between two sets of frames and the two ladies behind the counter were very sweet and gave me an honest opinion. I decided to go with a pair of Coach glasses and my insurance covered only part of the cost so they were gracious and let me pay half the day of my appointment and the other half when I pick up my new glasses. Professional, friendly staff. Dr. Chen was very knowledgeable and explained everything very clearly. The eye examination covered everything, no shortcuts here. Overall I would give Dr. Chen and her staff an over the top rating. They were on time and demonstrated they knew what they were doing. The building is air conditioned and free of odors (such as mold from old swamp coolers) and did not smell of chemicals or air fresheners used in many offices to cover up less than sanitary conditions. Perfect for those of us with asthma and other breathing conditions. I highly recommend Dr. Chen's office. read more

We came in and set up two complete new patient exams and ordered glasses to the tune of over $1000. No complaints about exams or quality/value of glasses, but staff adamently refused to provide Pupil Distance when I asked for a copy of the prescription. IMO this information is part of what I paid for and refusing to release it for fear I might buy a cheap pair of glasses online is pretty shortsighted. You can easily measure this yourself so denying it isn't preventing anything, it's just angering the customer. If you think you will never need any glasses beyond what they sell you will be happy here but I'll be looking for an optometrist who can meet all my needs. read more

Jennifer and her team were very helpful, friendly, thorough, and knowledgable. I had an appointment for 11:30 p.m., and was done by 12:44 p.m. In response to the negative review, PD is measured by a technician (any technician) who sells you your glasses, or you can measure it yourself if you're buying glasses online (just takes some attention to detail). I walked out with all other prescription numbers, and was told I can purchase glasses at the office or anywhere else I'd like. There was no pressure to purchase in-office whatsoever. Overall a very positive experience. I highly recommend Focus Optometry Center. read more

Be careful, I went in looking for an eyeglasses prescription that I could take online. I am financially challenged and I told them I appreciated them being there for medi-cal patients. A nice visit, nice office, but, after I left I discovered they left off the PD measurement and wanted me to buy glasses from them to get it. They would not sell it separately so I've wasted my money for a prescription I feel was not properly filled out. It is all about the MONEY $$$ Do not think having a prescription in hand for glasses will get you some, not if you do not have that measurement. Its a dirty little trick they may play. Unless they give me that number of refund my money I can get another exam for 2 years! I'm raising 4 kids I lost my business and struggling, teetering on if we will take food stamps we never have, she really took all I had. I cant get another authorization for a prescription for 24 months and I have to due without, the worst part is my older son in college, his eyes went form a -6 to a -3 he REALLY needs glasses and will have to wait 2 years as well. This is WRONG in so many ways. I asked for a refund so I could go elsewhere, no luck, I guess I will have to file in small claims court. and the BBB read more

First time I've been seen by Dr. Chen and it was a great experience! She offers not to do a test if she thinks you don't need one which is wonderful for those who have little or no insurance. That shows me honesty and integrity. Some eye doctors tell us we need these tests. When we get the bill, we wish we couldn't see. She was professional and knew what she is doing.
