I had an appointment for an eye exam on January 24, 2025. My son received his glasses about two weeks later, but I did not. I waited patiently, but I attempted to call more than once. My voice messages were never returned. On February 27, I came into the office to inquire about my glasses, and the woman at the desk said that a large box of glasses had just come in and perhaps they were in there. I took her at her word and left. No one ever called to tell me my glasses were in or to follow up with me. On March 10, I called and left a voicemail saying that if my glasses were not in yet that I would like a refund. No one returned my call, so I went into the office on the afternoon of March 11. The girl informed me that there was no possible way she would ever have time to return voicemails as she was the only one there and overwhelmed with work. However, she said she did receive my voicemail and processed a return. She said it should take 7 to 10 days to get my money returned to my payment method. On March 19, I still had not received a refund, so I contacted my insurance, VSP. They said that they would call the doctor's office and inquire as to what was going on. I reiterated that I just wanted a refund for my glasses, and I was not disputing either exams or my son's glasses. An insurance representative called me back on March 20 and told me that the doctor's office would cancel the lab order for the glasses and perhaps it was the lab all along that was the problem. The representative stated that she hoped that would help with my refund. I immediately called the doctor's office to inquire about my refund and was told that it would be 7 to 10 days from that point. On March 27, I went into the doctor's office and again inquired about the refund of $155 that I still have not received. I requested a printed copy of a receipt showing that the refund had been processed. The woman at the desk stated that someone named Amy had gone home for the day, and Amy was the only one who knew how to access that part of my account. The woman stated she was "creating an action plan" for herself to call me back the next day. I did not receive a phone call on March 28, and I still have no refund of a product I did not receive. I was told April 1 that some entity called Stripe would be contacted to determine why the money they now claim was refunded on March 17 has not actually been refunded. I was told that since I paid with a card that they cannot issue me a cash or check refund. As of April 3, 2025, I have not received a refund of $155, which is the amount of the glasses that VSP requested be cancelled. I just want my money back for a product I never received. read more

Dr. Mallory is very knowledgeable and professional while also creating a friendly atmosphere. My appointment was done in a timely manner and all of the staff was amazing. It's sad to hear that even though there are very few patients waiting in the lobby for appointments... the online reviews for this ophthalmologist are overwhelmingly negative... even over the course of many years. One has to wonder: how could things get so bad? It's not that the OD's care is at question... but the office response to cancelled appointments and extreme delays in delivering new glasses, contacts, etc. leaves far too many patients without the care they deserve... and the eye care improvements they require. read more

I have every faith in him. years ago at my first visit his nurse took my blood pressure and it was very high. until then I did not know I had high blood pressure. it is thanks to him and his wonderful office staff that I have been treated for high blood pressure. and now he is responsible for my having cataract surgery in a few weeks. Terrible experience with Dr Mallory. He was rude and condescending to not only me as a patient but to his staff as well. I went there for a new RX for new glasses. I then ordered glasses using the updated RX that Dr Mallory prescribed . When I picked them up I immediately knew they weren't correct but he told me I " just needed to get used to them". They caused severe headaches. I returned them and he gave me a new exam with a new RX and glasses were remade. Still not correct RX. I informed the office and made an appointment for 930am. I waited in the exam room 35min, no Dr Mallory. He saw me come in and no other patients were there and still he made me wait. The office staff were great. read more

Great Optometrist. The 5 star staff is always friendly and helpful. Plenty of comfortable seating in the waiting room. Plenty of free parking in their lot. Large selection of glasses to choose from. They have glasses in all styles and many different manufacturers. My teenagers like the fashionable frames but I prefer the plain gunmetal frames. My taste in glasses happens to be fully covered by my insurance. Our cost out of pocket for glasses isn't much if anything and checkups are always fully covered. They stay up to date with the latest machines and tools for checking the peepers. I was impressed with some of the space age technology that was used. the wait is normally pretty short to be seen. The Doc has always been in good spirits and friendly. Usually a quick turnaround on glasses. They're normally good at calling when glasses are ready for pick up but sometimes the call falls through the cracks. When it seems like the glasses should be there we call and they usually are there waiting to be picked up. We will continue our annual visits at this optometrist. read more

Haven't been a patient here because everyone of my friends has told me to avoid this office. However, I heard they might be hiring so I called to see if that was true. I was on hold forever, and it was saying I was number one in line. But I didn't get an answer. I called later and finally got to talk to the receptionist. I was very nice and asked if they were hiring. I kid you not, she gave me the bitchiest "no" I have ever heard. That's all she said. So rude. One of the jobs of a receptionist is to be welcoming and helpful. Answering questions with one word and a bitchy tone is not one of them. Horrible horrible horrible. The staff is horrible. I ordered contacts 12/21/2021 and it's now 02/14/22 I call and call with NO answers. I don't live in town so I can't stop in. When they do answer all they say is that they'll call me back and they never do. I had to have my grandmother go in and they still didn't have an answer and just said they'll give me a call but didn't... shocker.... I am so beyond frustrated with how unprofessional the staff is. It has almost been TWO months since I've ordered my contacts and a new pair of glasses with no updates. Once I receive my contacts and new glasses I will not be going here again. Do not come here for glasses! We came in looking for glasses for my son on 5/27 and were met with a very rude employee. We were very understanding when he stated that he was only there to give glasses to patients, but he could have turned us away if he was not able to provide adequate customer service. I went to Dr. Mallory to get seen with my daughter. As he gave my daughter her eye exam, he was not giving her clear directions. I stayed quiet as to not interrupt the doctor, and finally I could tell how confused she was and I reiterated the instructions in a way I knew she could understand. He then turned And said "Mom. Hush." . Okay, so I stayed quiet. Then it was my turn. He had asked the assistant to put my contacts into my eyes, apparently this is what he expects of his staff. that's fine. the contact was bothering me. I told him. He took it out replaced it and it was fine for a few minutes but then continued to bother me. He did an exam and said it's because of my astigmatisms and the contact was in my eye incorrectly. I told him it was bothering me. As he walked out, he scolded his staff for putting it in my eye wrong. How could he know? He was rude to his staff, rude to me, did not listen to my concerns. will never go back. read more

The front desk gentleman, Kenneth, is an idiot. I called and asked where are my glasses after more than 2 weeks. He laughed at me. I asked him what is so funny? At first he refused to answer me. He once again laughed at me and called me "disgruntled" over having to wait for my glasses. Funny, after I called his supervisor my glasses magically appeared. Can you say LAZY individual! I am going to start off by saying I would have never gone to Dr Mallory's if it weren't for my 11 year old son not being able to find a pair of glasses anywhere else in town! I used to see Dr Opatowsky we had our first appt in Lancaster and I was told we could then see him here in Ridgecrest we'll that was false, my son continued to see him for 2 more years all appts in Lancaster until their entire staff and the incompetents finally got to me. They screwed up my sons glasses every time we went in and charged me for visits even though I had really good insurance and should not have been charged. But back to my review about Dr Mallory's, my son has strabismus I can't just order his glasses online he has to be measured. We went into Dr Mallory's almost two months ago, my son found a pair he liked $700 later we go home. 3 weeks later his glasses fall and the frame and lenses are scratched we have a lens warranty and get new lenses put in we don't change the frames but not even a week later, our fault the frame becomes completely broken. I call and they said I have a frame warranty so I pay $230 to get a new frame. We have them a week and my son goes to put them into the case because we are swimming and the frame arm snaps right off. I call the office, I'm told they can't do anything and I'll have to buy a whole new set $700 the lady also said it sounds like your son is hard on glasses. I have never had this issue before he has never broken his glasses before! I asked what the warranty was for and why he could not get them fixed I was transferred to the office manager and she did not answer, I left a voice mail and guess what no one ever called me back. I called again all day Tuesday and nothing all day today Wednesday and I finally decided I would go into the office and oh wow, she's busy on the phone. I told them I would come back but I did not want to come back with my son because I did not want him to see how upset I was about it all. I just called them again leaving them a message to contact me asap! I guarantee they won't call back but I will be going back down there to have an actual conversation with them when I get time from being a mom and working full time!! What is the warranty on dr Mallory's glasses and why did I pay almost $1000 to now have glasses my son can't even wear. Thanks guys! This office is absolutely awful. I saw the Dr a year ago for glasses and I didn't have the best impression or experience but decided I'd give them another try because we all have "bad or off days" I scheduled my apt a few weeks ago and about a week later got called to tell me that they messed up and have to move my apt from the 17th to the 18th because the Dr wasn't going to be in on the 17th . I received text messages confirming my apt for the 18th and replied yes and 2 hours before 3p I received a message stating my apt was for today the 17th. I called office to confirm and spoke with a girl who was extremely rude and refused to give me her name. She stated that their system is unable to stop sending text messages when you cancel and re-make an appointment, so they always tell people to disregard the message. I explained to her that I never canceled it and that it was the office that did and then I also told her I was never informed of that. She then became even more defensive, and she actually hung up on me. I decided to still go to my appointment since I feel it is very unprofessional to cancel the appointment same day. When I arrived to the office, I was not greeted, I was snarled at ! I asked for the girls name, she stated that there was no reason for me to know her name. At that ppoint I was over it and the Dr or office doesn't deserve my business. I guess this is the reason why you can get an appointment within less than a month and why all the other optometrists in town are booked out for months or aren't taking new patients. The incompetence of this office is incredible, I'll give them that! Don't forget the lack of communication too! I've waited 1month for contacts that were never ordered. No one would return my calls.They blatantly admitted to screening their calls to not answer specifically for me. I broke the nose pads off my glasses about 10 days ago. I was in Yuma at the time. I called a few optometrist offices without finding help. So I called your optician. He suggested calling jewelry stores to have it soldered. I was successful in finding someone to solder it. I did have to contact your optician to verify the frame was not titanium. He had to research on line to check this out. So the piece was soldered back on, but did not fit well. I stopped in this week to see the optician for refit. He made it fit well again. I gave four stars because the selection of frames isn't comparable to my previous eye doctor, but I drove from Lake Isabella area to see Dr. Mallory and thank goodness I did. I have been going to Bakersfield to the same place for the past ten years. I tried to get an appointment and they said they are about three months out! Holy smokes! Three month's? Really? I used to see Dr.Mallory maybe 12 years ago and called his office; I was in within a week. My appointment went smoothly, but they were understaffed that day and apologized numerous times. The entire process was close to two hours. One section of glasses is not available to me as a VSP member. That was odd since that section had adorable frames. The glasses came in within a week even though they said it could take up to three weeks. I am so impressed. The prescription is spot on. It is so much better than the expensive upscale place in Bakersfield! Also In Bakersfield, my glasses were running me $220.00 over the VSP insurance and I have superb insurance! With Dr. Mallory, the total fee was $50.00 and I added the reflective coating. I got the same transition lenses, with progressive bifocals and added the reflective glare coating for $150 less!!!!! I am so pleased. Not only because of the price though. For years now, I would take my glasses off to use the computer or read even though I had the progressive bifocal. The glasses I picked up today are perfect because I don't have to remove them at all! I am so super pleased. I also did not experience any negativity during my visit from any staff members. There was a rude customer though that couldn't be pleased no matter what. They tried to please her but she was being immature and ridiculous. I CAN SEE!!! While on vacation in Ridgecrest, I accidentally tore one of my contact lenses and did not have a spare. I called the friendly folks at Vision Care who gave, that's right, *gave* me a couple of pairs of new lenses along with some solution and a case. First and foremost, when you set an appointment he is ALWAYS late..sometimes and hour or more, and always an excuse like I am short staffed..or I just got back from vacation. First of all I took my son to doctor Mallory and he was inpatient with my 6 year old. The staff is rude and they apparently don't like their jobs and probably should find another job! My sons glasses came in they called and said that his glasses were ready my husband goes in and they were NOT only rude and bothered that he was there asking for them but they told him in an ugly tone that they weren't there for pick up. Then they didn't give an instructions for care and they didn't offer him anything to hold his glasses in place or give him any cleaning solution or microfiber cleaning cloth. She was rude and unprofessional. The glasses look small on my sons face and I don't even want to deal with these people! This is what happens when you live in a small town and you have only a couple options to see an eye doctor... I'll be reporting them to my insurance company as well. read more

There are far more negative than positive aspects. The selection is fair and they accept a wide variety of insurances. The bad: office is sweltering. Wait is far too long to be seen, and in-house prescriptions shouldn't take more than a week. Staff is inept, unsure of how many glasses you ordered and can't give a timely answer. Do not return phone calls. When you pick up your glasses, they will be dirty when they give them to you. I will look elsewhere for my next exam. read more

They just keep telling me that some women, who is rarely in will call me, yet she never does. I don't know what to do and no one will help me. This is so unfair.
