It is hard to express just how wonderful Sam and the crew at FOCUS are --- Sam is truly gifted. He knows his craft and has an amazing eye! I have only been wearing glasses in the last few years really after many, many years of wearing primarily contact lenses so the world of frames and lenses is pretty daunting for me, especially with my super strong prescription.... When I came to Sam at the referral of a friend, I knew I was in good hands. Sam insisted I try on several pairs of frames just to test out different looks, but he also paid close attention and made recommendations based on the shape of my face, my eyebrows, and what would compliment my features. He chose correctly! Ultimately, I wound up with a pair that was every so perfect for my face and oh so stylish! And it wasn't just the frames -- the construction of the lens is what sold me. If you have a high prescription and have to wear high index lenses, you feel my pain -- selecting the perfect frame/lens combo can be challenging, but Sam made the process seamless. He knew all the little tricks, like adding a slight tint and transition lenses to give me some flair, and also functionality. My only complaint is that now I don't want to wear any of my other glasses! So I guess I'll just have to go back and have Sam select another pair for me! When I told the woman I was interested in continuing my search, but wanted to keep the Chanel frames I liked in mind, the owner yelled at her from across the store telling her to help the customers who just walked in. When I picked up the frames to note the style number (for future reference), the owner ran from behind me and aggressively grabbed them from my hand. I said, "excuse me Sir, I was looking to see the style number so I know what pair I want when I return." He exclaimed, "We DON'T do that here!" I wouldn't know whether the owner is discriminatory (as indicated in another review below) or just rude to everyone. But it seems to be one or the other. I've purchased over 20 pairs of eyeglasses and sunglasses from various opticians, yet my brief experience at Focus was really weird. I entered and asked the owner if I could try on a pair of Tom Fords out of the case. When I put them on and told him I'd going to take a photo he said "OK, but just one" (no, he wasn't joking - he was serious). He then stood near me as I snapped the photo (he's actually in the photo, staring over my shoulder :-)), abruptly reached forward to retrieve the glasses and said "come back when you have your prescription." As a merchant I assume he knows people have prescriptions on their phones these days, as do I, but that this was supposed to be some clever way of implying that I should leave. Fortunately I can get Tom Ford glasses pretty much anywhere, so no need to worry about it, but this is either not a store for customers generally or just particular customers. DO NOT GET ANYTHING HERE IF YOU EXPECT ANY CUSTOMER SERVICE!!! JUST GO TO GEORGETOWN OPTICIAN ACROSS THE STREET. Both me and my husband got glasses from this shop 3-4 years ago. Later on we needed adjustments on widths and nose pads and the store owner insisted the glasses were not from him on two separate occasions. It's one thing for denied service, it's another thing to be called a liar. Avoid this place if you do not wish to be insulted after spending over a thousand dollars at a store. Moreover, after being called liar at Focus, I brought the glasses across the street to Georgetown Optician, told them I did not get the glasses from them, and they helped me changed nose pads on the spot nevertheless(while Focus told me it'll take days and I need to leave the glasses there). If you do not believe ppl walking in your store are your customers -- guess what, they don't have to and they never will be again. read more

My friend Lashaun brought me to this place. They have amazing customer service. Sam is phenomenal and makes sure the customer is always first priority. They have amazing prices for authentic designer bags. I love love love this establishment and their professionalism is beyond belief! SAVE YOURSELF THE MISERY! :D I never write reviews, but I had to share this gem of an experience with everybody. At the moment I was a little bothered, but now that I think about it it's actually hilarious and I feel pity for the owner. This was probably the most obnoxious/aggressive interaction I ever had with a shop in DC, no exaggerations. If you don't feel like reading a long review (I know I sometimes don't), here are a couple of alternative suggestions you'll thank me for: 1. Blink Optical: Fozya and Dr George are amazing, extremely helpful, wouldn't mind it if you tried every single frame they had, and are more than wiling to accommodate special order quests. 2. Morgenthal Frederics CityCenter: ask for Jacob, excellent gentleman, knows his stuff and isn't shy of giving a candid opinion. Here was my fun experience: - Locked doors: reached the shop and the doors were LOCKED! (YES apparently the owner treats the place as if it's a jewelry store). Had to knock and stand for a good 4-5 minutes until the owner let me in (jeez, take it easy? I mean you're selling plastic frames, most of which are wholesale made by Luxottica. Besides, we're in Georgetown, aren't we?) - Rude greet: not only was the door lock, this person who I then learned was the shop owner literally asked me: "WHAT DO YOU WANT?". What happened to welcome, how may I help you, basic mannerism? - Intense owner: passes over the frames and stands over my shoulder as if he's guarding them. And as soon as I wear a frame he asks me what I thought of it and wants to IMMEDIATELY put it back in the showcase. - No-selfie policy: he then sent his assistant to help me. I tried a couple more frames and I really liked one. I took out my phone to snap a selfie and to my surprise! SHE SAID WE DON'T ALLOW THAT!!! I told her really? How come? I've just visited at least 4 shops before yours and none of them said that. She simply responded: those are other shops, but WE don't allow it! I told her: weird, any specific reason? as a matter of fact in the last shop the salesperson was so nice she said don't forget to take a selfie with an angle to show the frame's arm, and then she took a side pic of me. She said that's the agreement we have with the brand (funny, I had a Tom Ford pair in my hand, and I took multiple pics of TF frames in other shops. Lying much?). - While speaking to the assistant, the owner cut the conversation and asked her to go and assist another customer, and he asked me aggressively: do you want to see Dita or what?! (I earlier asked if they carried the brand). - I asked what lenses they use, he responded something like the best and nobody ever complains. Hmmm, that wasn't really my question? - I tried a Dita frame as soon as I put it down he quickly snatched it from in front of me, put it back in the showcase, locked it and walked away (No more Ditas for me haa). - Last golden nugget he dropped, I asked about the total cost of the frame I liked earlier with Rx lenses and all, he walked away, turned around, said the price of the frame alone, turned around again and joined another customer without completing the conversation. At this point I thought this shop is helpless and I left. I really don't understand why would a person run a shop like that. Does he not like interacting with people? Then why open a customer facing business? Does he think that the few brand names he carries make his shop special somehow? There are far "fancier" shops out there they're not even in the same league. Ironically, before going to his shop I was at Blink Optical which specializes in selling exquisite frames made by hand at boutique shops, I mean +$1,500 kind of frames with materials like horn, leather, wood, etc... not plastic batch-made Luxottica frames. The lady there "Fozya" was an absolute charm. In 15 minutes she had more than 20 frames out for me to try, then we spent half an hour talking about things in general. And when I told her I'll shop around a bit more before making a decision, she recommended I visit another shop! I'd recommend the owner of Focus to take customer service and etiquette courses from Fozya. With this bottom of the trash-level customer service, I don't recommend you waste your time with this shop. Anyways you can find all the brands he carries in other shops. In the end I bought 2 frames NOT from him, 1 of which I originally tried at his shop and was willing to buy from him then and there. But with this attitude? No thank you, I bought it from someone who appreciates doing business with me at least, they were more than happy to look for it online and order it for me. Seriously, don't even bother visiting this shop. read more

Very disappointed. I went in asking for a sporty pair of sunglasses that would be good for trekking. I said I'd previously worn Maui Jim and Revo but had recently lost both pairs. The owner recommended Persol and said they were very good for sports. He said Persol were better than Revo. Two months later, I went on a trekking trip. The glasses are AWFUL. They keep falling off my face because there is no grip. I will never bring them on another trek and now have to buy another pair of expensive sunglasses. I went back to the store and two store employees said Persols are fashion glasses and are NOT sporty glasses and that the owner shouldn't have recommended them to me. Also, the owner charged me about $35 over MSRP - the manufacture's suggested retail price - which is absolutely unheard of, and I learned after searching the Persol website that they are a very old style. Since the OWNER of the store completely mislead me AND overcharged me, I thought we could work something out for an exchange. I take very good care of my glasses and they looked like new. But the owner was completely inflexible with the return policy and very unfriendly. I purchased from Focus to support a local business but was burned big time. Next time I will just got to the Sunglasses Hut. I would not shop here again. Either the owner is completely ignorant about his products/brands or is intentionally selling people the wrong (overpriced) stuff so he can make a sale. read more

I come in here often while I'm at work and just sit and talk with the owner Sam and I can honestly say it's a great place. I've read the other reviews about how he's pushy and all and I can honestly say that I've never seen that from him. He treats people well. Everyone gets the same amount of respect. What you have to consider is that his store is in Georgetown and people come in here all the time being all snobby and rude but from what I've seen, he's still just as polite and respectful. Yes he sells sunglasses and eyewear and yes they are expensive. But it's a high end eyewear boutique. Can't complain about that. And no I'm not writing these nice things about him because I know him. I'm just writing an honest review. If I didn't feel that he had a good business going on I just wouldn't write a review at all... read more

Good and authentic bags but owners is definitely discriminating. I came in and asked if upstairs was open (the bag area) and he told me no.....even though I know it was. Apparently I didn't seem like a serious enough buyer so I was told upstairs was closed so he wouldn't have to escort me around for me to be 'just looking'. If you're looking for exceptional customer service and expertise on eye ware, I highly recommend checking out this lovely boutique in the heart of Georgetown. Having just moved from the Virginia Suburbs, I am happy to have found a place where I can get personal attention and good fashion advise unlike many of the area's malls that are just looking out for their profit. I have now made it a weekly ritual to visit this boutique because they always have new things and carry what is currently popular and hip. There is a great variety of styles to choose despite its size compared to the big stores but I am always happy to not have to dig through endless pairs. The first time that I visited Focus, I bombarded the sales person with my dilemma of being eye are illiterate. He quickly interviewed me with questions that later resulted in the purchase of my favorite pair of Ray Bans. I realized that he made it a point to truly investigate what would fit me best and not just offer me the more expensive pairs. Later I learned that he was the owner. read more

I got an US$80 groupon for this store as a gift, and unfortunately will not be using it. Went there to see what I could buy, and the place is very expensive. So I found a pair of sunglasses on sale for $160, thinking that with the groupon they would cost me $80, but the sales clerk refused to accept the groupon, since the item was "already on sale". The groupon did not have the condition printed on it, but the guy justified it as "it's already cheap". Clearly, the place made some good money with the groupon deal and now refuses to live up to its obligations. The selection of frames is fantastic and while it's expensive, it should be . . . this is not VisionWorks or some low cost glasses store. This place is a massive SCAM. They sell old models at best and refurbs or knockoffs at worst at full MSRP. I went in to look at a pair of Persols and became suspicious when the owner knew absolutely nothing about the lens options or models. Went home to verify online and confirmed my suspicions. They place stickers over the model numbers so that you can't verify in store and have no return policy... Stay away would be my advice. read more
