Me and my family would like to try something new and active . It look intimidating in the beginning but the owner Joe walk us through and his very patient with beginners and make you feel comfortable and welcoming. We had so much fun and people around seems good. Gym is clean and new.

Almost made it!

"In the end, you won't remember the time you spent working in the office or mowing your lawn. Climb that goddamn mountain." - Jack Kerouac After losing 100 pounds, I vowed to try things outside of my comfort zone. I need to stop being apprehensive, scared and doubtful. I need to take more chances, be more courageous, take the shot. After all, you miss 100% of the shots you never take, as they say. Whoever "they" are. A coworker was my secret Santa, and got me a gift certificate for Focus Climbing Center. So when I hit that goal, I decided that I was doing it! I'm afraid of heights, so let's start there. The Focus website is pretty antiquated, but it had rates and information available, and I was also able to fill out their waiver online. The center is easy to find, located in an industrial park off Dobson and Broadway. The front desk guy was so nice. I'm sorry that I forget what his name was. The entry process was efficient, and he took me back for a brief orientation. I learned how to fall safely, how to use the carabiners and belay system, and what the color and sticker number paths mean. I rented the shoes and harness, which they give a discount if you do the day pass with the equipment. They probably don't have chalk out due to COVID, but I highly recommend it. I had a hard time getting sweaty paws, and nobody mentioned chalk. They probably have it up front, but I have no idea. After my orientation, I was off to the races. Ok, not really. I was slow and scared. I chose the vertical wall with the belay first. It took a few tries, but I got the hang of it, and shed my fears rather quickly. I didn't make it to the top, but that's for another day! The gym is small, with one completely vertical belay wall, and one vertical bouldering wall. There was a group of guys that stayed on the bouldering wall the whole time, and I wasn't comfortable with the other diagonal and rock-esque (is that the right description or maybe contorted?) walls. There was a group at the far end too, where there was a small bouldering wall that was pretty vertical. So I did that a few times while the group took a break. Then there was a guy who was doing every belay wall, so I waited for him to move to another wall before trying again. I just feel like I did more waiting than climbing, because I'm new and not yet comfortable with diagonal walls. But that's on me. I stayed about an hour and a half. As I turned in my gear, they reminded me that it's a day pass, so I could come back any time during the day. I'll add that they have great hours. 10-10 on weekdays and 10-7 on weekends. Give Focus a shot. ESPECIALLY if you want to try something new and outside your comfort zone. Both adults and kids will have a fun and challenging experience!

The gym offers free chalk, however the owner is consistently really really rude. Would not recommend.

Is this a good place for kids to climb who have never been climbing before?

Absolutely!!!! I first took my son there when he was 4 years old and there were younger kids there! The auto belays will totally relieve your (or the child's) worries and there are super easy routes for beginners!

He tailored the trip specifically to my needs and mixed the trip with some great climbs, awesome pointers, and an easy-to-remember overview of how to rig a safe system for a solo climb (something that is pretty specialized and not necessarily easy to find good info on). Caleb was such a knowledgable dude. So knowledgable that another instructor from a different climbing company started asking him for tips! I felt totally safe while also being encouraged to take my climbing to the next level. I would recommend to all!! Children and old people, inexperienced and pros, and also every one in between. I came here a few days ago looking for vertical ascend gear out of caves. I was greeted by Jason and he was really helpful and knowledgeable. I needed very specific gear, and Jason was very patient with me and showed me where I could find sit harnesses, chest harness, chest ascender, hand ascende, foot loops, etc. I didn't find exactly what I needed but got a good idea on the things I need to build a personalized vertical gear set for myself. And of course, while I was looking for cave gear, I wandered around looking at all the fabulous gear they have, I was like a kid in a candy store. I could spend hours in here. I started looking at hydration packs as I need to replace mine and found a very nice military edition and will come back to purchase this soon. I also saw plenty of Petzl bags, and very tempted to purchase another. They also carry so much Petzl gear, you will be in heaven here. Also, some great hiking shoes and some sleek, but we'll performing water shoes. I then wandered into kayaks and Jason even showed me the Padillac they have! I've gotten into paddleboarding and kayaking for the summer and now want one of each! This place rents them and sells them. I then went to check out some wetsuit gear, and they have a really nice selection of wetsuits, gloves, booties, etc. I really love this place and it is definitely gonna bankrupt me, but so worth it. High quality gear, more extensive selection than REI and the staff here know what they are talking about. If you need something specialized, this is the place for you. I'll be back here soon!

Yoga spaces are typically rooted in kindness, mindfulness, and approachability, so it is disappointing to encounter communication or the lack of, that feels unwelcoming. This is not a once in a while experience, this happens every time I visit the studio. Sometimes I wish I didn't have to interact with her before entering my class as my vibe is completely shifted. She's short, she seems extremely irritated, she seems as though she would like to be anywhere but there, she does not smile, when you ask questions she makes you feel stupid, and when someone says thank you or have a good day she flat out ignores you. I hope this feedback is taken as an opportunity to better align staff interactions with the values the studio represents, especially someone sitting at the front desk. If this is the behavior the studio knowingly allows, I may have to cancel my 3 year long membership.

I came in knowing nothing of yoga at all (in the physical practice of it). I did feel a little as if it was about the whole program rather than acknowledging some of us really are there to deepen our own practices. I believe it was the first class that we were writing letters for when we completed the program... this had me feel it was necessary to enroll in more than I had intended. The instructor was great, the classmates were great, but... I certainly felt it wasn't for basic entry level yoga, beginners. However, maybe it was just me? I decided to pull out while I was still able and deepen my own practice on my own. As for yoga classes, in 1 hr intervals? I have to admit, I have no experience beyond attending the program itself, since it is a yoga school.
