The view of the fjord is beautiful, and that alone makes dining here worth it. You couldn't really hear the music from where we were sitting by the window, but we didn't mind. I tried the cod. The fish was perfectly cooked and paired with tender potatoes and a delicious parsnip purée. Overall, I would recommend the Flåm Marina & Apartments for dinner in Flåm.

The public spaces were clean and up to date. We had both dinner and breakfast included in our package which for two people was about 200 NOK. Both buffets were expansive especially the dinner buffet - the selection was huge! Everything was tasty. Since we don't leave until later in the day they stored our luggage for us. Overall a nice stay but even if this was 50% less it was a rip off.

The service is highly efficient: you order at the counter, choose your seat, and they bring the food straight to your table. The staff was consistently friendly, helpful, and quick. Both days there was plenty of room in the gastropub and we did not have to wait for a seat. We also got to experience both seating areas. The outdoor patio offers a lovely view while keeping you totally comfortable, heated, and protected from the elements. Our second night, we sat inside, which has a wonderfully cozy atmosphere. The rooms are quite small, but the beds were comfortable with plenty of pillows. Our shower room however only had scalding hot water. During a very hot summer, this was very problematic. The wash sink had appropriate-temperature water. There was basically no air movement even with the windows wide open. The place is fairly far out from the main Flam attractions -- about half-a-mile or so. Breakfast was included and decent. Fairly typical Norwegian fare of fish, caviar, bread, hard-boiled eggs, etc. I can't compare prices, as all other available hotels were unavailable by time we had booked.

The views from the back of the hotel down into the Nærøydalen valley would've been nicer on a clear day. One could just make out the old winding road below us. We did a quick walk through of the hotel and found the decor was of an older style with a mixture of antique statues, furnishings and other items. A gift shop also sold drinks and snacks so it was good opportunity to grab a quick snack before continuing on the bus to Voss.

It was originally built as a sanatorium in 1896, but it was never used for its intended purpose. Instead, it became popular as a hotel because of the Bergen Railway. After the Bergen Railway was opened in 1909, and especially after the Flåm Railway was connected with the Bergen Railway in 1940 it became a go to destination but times and fortune change. My first impression; I thought I was in an old folks home. It's on different floor levels within so one goes up/down a few steps to get to different rooms. It's not for wheelchair users. We arrived here without any welcome as 'cash cows'. We were part of the Flåm £15O a head railway trip off Norwegian Prima. Our guide walked us up a slope from the station, in the rain, into the hotel, on a wet dank afternoon, only to tell us to go down two floors inside, for rather poor - tasting filtered cool coffee that sat on the tables in flasks. As we were cash cows other cash cows who were there from an earlier trip had blocked the narrow hallway in which was annoying given the cold rain as we were held outside jostling to get in. As we were a crowd we were put in an ugly nondescript room packed tight with fellow travellers. It resembled a school assembly hall with a public sector school dinner approach. So once we got into the downstairs room allocated for us we poured flasked coffee into tiny hotel style cold cups ending up with lukewarm lousy coffee which is unpleasant. If the (cold, limp, thin) waffles that sat plated on a top table were loving made fresh by the hotel's chef, from the finest flour, mountain butter and cream, treacly cane sugar from Mauritius and fresh free range double yolked XL eggs from happy chickens living their best life on a mountain side then sadly it isn't working as these potentially microwaved limp offerings had all the hallmarks of vegetable oil and powdered egg factory manufacturing. The raspberry jam (I expected cloudberry) and runny sour cream helped but honestly if you were served this stuff in a local cafe you'd be reluctant to pay and you wouldn't return. Given it's a £150 a head they have a cheek serving this rubbish. Having looked around the hotel and its surroundings I was glad ours was a brief visit. If the food served to guests is anything like the poor quality we got it has little going for it except the location. I have no desire to return.

They do have free croissants and coffee but no breakfast otherwise. They have a game room. We did take advantage of their sauna which was reasonably priced. It was alot of fun. Not many lodging choices in town so this basic hotel is pricey... Right, that's true for everything in Norway!

The daily service to provide fresh towels and clean the room has been a refreshing change from hotels in the states. The buffet style breakfast offers many Norwegian breakfast choices including sauna ham, pickled fishes, breads, waffles and a whole lot more. The real reason for staying here however is none of these things. It's the absolute stunning beauty of the fjord. It is unparalleled, even with what you will see in Flam - which was spectacular. I highly recommend making a day trip to gudvangen even if you choose not to stay the night. Taking the 2-hour fjord cruise from flam will not disappoint. It's spectacular all 2 hours and there are a few stops in between the two fjord destinations to drop off or pick up locals who live along the way - where the fjord cruise is their main form of movement between home and ports. All in all this is a highly memorable gem that will imprint on my family as a key part of our overall journey through Scandinavia.
