If you'l find yourself in Western Norway and are looking for an adventure, consider including Viking Valley. What is at Viking Valley? A restaurant, gift shop and small Viking village with easy access to the Nærøyfjord (gorgeous scenery!) and ferry. There are tour options that can take you directly here, ranging in fjord tours with shuttle to public transportation. Tours tend to include the Viking Valley in their overall cost, which is hefty. I decided to rent a car and map out a route- surprisingly much more economical. Viking Valley is roughly 2.5-3 hrs from Bergen one way. It is a historical journey involving a small Viking style village and consists of tour guides in Viking attire with vast knowledge of survival, architecture, weaponry, and textiles. The tour of Viking valley is included with purchase of adult ticket price (235 NOK). The site is small- you may spend an hour or two here. If you are a solo traveler or small group of friends looking for a quality time, there are some crucial pro tips: 1) GO OFF SEASON - mid- October seemed to be great timing! Why? No school holidays in Norway at this time. Few cruise ships. Gorgeous autumn leaves. Need I say more? 2) GO OFF SEASON. Then you can benefit from having your own tour guide instead of sharing one with a group of 50. This site is extremely popular in spring and summer, so they have multiple guides leading tours at the same time. The guide is essential to this experience and makes it worth it! My guide was amazing! Last pro tip, the silver and brass jewelry in the cases and iron forged items are Norwegian made. Hope you enjoy as much as I did! read more
