    Pesarattu Upma
    Ram S.

Tried them yesterday for the first time. Interesting concept to find South Indian food truck in the bay area. Liked the following items - Ghee mini idli: soft and well made - Poori: crispy and generous portion size. 3 pooris - onion Uttappam: well made good texture - Irani chai: tasting this after a long time - Peanut chutney: delicious Wasn't a fan of their upma pesarattu or their sambar, but that's just me and my taste. Will definitely try them again when in the area

    VIJAYAWADA PANNER DOSA

Delicious food and chai tea. It was our first time trying their food and decided to give it a try seeing the lively atmosphere after driving by on El Camino (Santa Clara). We asked what to try and got the VIJAYAWADA PANNER DOSA. The flavors and textures were delicious. We definitely will come and try something again next time.

SERVICE - located in a parking lot on the intersection of el Camino real and San Tomas - parking available for around 10 cars - seating provided in heated tent - food served as it is ready rather than all together in one order - our buzzer was not working so the worker called to us from his truck window - good for a casual meal MENU - andhra style South Indian food - vegetarian and vegan options available - well priced ($10 for a combo) FOOD - tawa bonda (9/10): small fried rice and lentil balls sautéed in spices and green chili. I really liked this dish. It makes a great snack or shareable between a few people. The bonda are fluffy on the inside and crispy on the outside, even after being coated in spices. Highly recommend trying this one. - masala mirchi bajji (8/10): six pieces of fried green chili filled with potato mixture and topped with onions, carrots, and peanuts. I had not seen mirchi bajji made like this but it was definitely a must try. The chili is not super spicy, more like a jalapeño. I liked the addition of carrots for sweetness and peanuts for a nutty crunch. - hyderabadi bandi dosa (5/10): dosa filled with upma and a special masala powder. This was my least favorite of the dishes we ordered but mostly because I am not a huge fan of using upma as the filling for a dosa. If the same flavors were used in a potato masala I would have liked it more. - special flying idli (6/10): mini idli cooked in a spicy gravy. The flavors in this are a nice blend of chili and warming spices. While I liked the concept, the idlis fell apart due to the moisture. - combo 1 (8/10): 2 idlis, 1 vada, and 6 punugulu. If you want a no frills way to try a few things from the menu, get this. Each of the components are exactly what you would expect. *all dishes served with peanut chutney, ginger pickle, and mixed vegetable sambar* WOULD I GO BACK? Yes! The food was very flavorful and I liked how they had a heated seating area

We just had food from Flying Idlis. We have been wanting to come for a long time and finally made it. We ordered ghee idli, fried idli, pani puri, sambar vada, onion pesarettu, paneer pakoda and irani chai. All of them were delicious and authentic. We enjoyed the sambar and chutneys as well - peanut chutney and ginger chutney. It wasn't crowded and the service was pretty good. - everyone is friendly and brings food to our table. All the food items were fresh and hot! Will definitely come back to try their poori and other menu items.

It's clean inside and plenty of natural lighting. Since we were one of two parties inside, the service was quick. I ordered the chicken tikka wrap, as I was feeling something handheld. The chicken tikka was perfectly seasoned, with a good kick of spiciness. I will say, the oil did seep through the naan wrap, so it was definitely a bit messy to eat. But the flavor was so good that it was worth it. AND, the wrap was only $14. In this economy? The prices were really reasonable. Everything was just wonderful, and the food alone gets a solid five stars from me. Complex flavors, just the right amount of heat. Papadum, tandoori salmon, lamb saag, and gajar halwa were outstanding. The staff, unfortunately, looked inexperienced and standoffish. We came in at an off-peak time. The place was nearly empty, so it was not like they had their hands full. As we were going through the meal, not a single dirty plate was taken away from our table. When we finished dessert, all the used dishes from the appetizer and main course were still on the table. That was so odd. It was rather hard to get the attention of the servers. At one point, a server who had brought our dishes before was standing in the back of the room and looking straight at me. I tried to summon him first by making eye contact, then by a meek hand wave, but he redirected his look a little away from me and just continued standing there. We were brought the wrong dessert and realized that only after we started eating, but decided it would be too much hassle to get it replaced. We live very close by and will likely come back for takeout, but not for dine-in.

For a Saturday morning, the energy was calm -- a good sign for a small spot that could easily get overwhelmed. The waitress set the tone early. Warm, unhurried, she asked how we had heard about the place before taking the order -- the kind of question a restaurant only asks when it is still building its crowd and actually wants to know the answer. Filter coffee arrived without delay, hot, no shortcuts. The upma and mini tiffin combo followed. Portions were generous and the food arrived warm. But dish after dish played it safe right up to the edge of forgettable. The upma had correct texture with none of the assertiveness that makes a good upma worth finishing slowly. The sambar leaned thin. The chutneys were there, present and accounted for, doing the minimum. Everything assembled correctly, nothing bold enough to make you look up from the table. Meenakshi Bhavan gets enough right on a weekend morning to be worth knowing about -- clean space, genuinely warm service, honest portions. The waitress clearly takes pride in the hospitality side of things. The kitchen needs to match that energy with a firmer hand on the seasoning. Good enough for a familiar weekend breakfast. Not yet good enough to become a habit. The paintings on the walls that were Indian and Tamilnadu related was great, but the other art work seemed out of place, not sure what the thought process there was with the management. Things where this could improve: Coffee taste can improve (may be sourcing from a different coffee vendor may help, seemed like a standard Narassu's powder from a grocery shop near by that probably was at least a few months old) Chutneys need a certain kick and that was definitely missing. Cleanliness can be improved for sure.

We ordered a few small plates. Pani Puri Surprise (3/5) was a bit of disappointment. Seemed bland. Fritters with chaat (4/5), I do not remember the dish name, but this was good. The dahi kebabs felt like a lesser version of what you'd get at Bungalow NYC -- not enough going on flavor-wise. The white butter chicken was surprisingly bland for a dish with "butter chicken" in the name. Actually really good..refreshing, well-balanced, and clearly crafted with some thought. That was the highlight of the night. Overall, for the price and the hype, I expected more. But when unpacked, it looked it was more for one hungry person. it had 1 cup of lamb curry, 1 cup chicken curry, 1 cup of rice, 1 cup unfilled salad, 1 gulab jamon in syrup and soufflé cup of raita and 2 half rounds of plain naan. If it's for 2, how come only a single gulab Jamon. Also it states 2 curry's and 1 masala, but it was missing 1 of the proteins. This was the description: "Chicken curry, chicken tikka masala, lamb curry, naan, rice, raita, dessert, and salad typically compose this non-vegetarian thali for two" $27.50. Special instructions field was not operable as we woukd have asjed for mild and we were ok with the spice. it was between mild and medium. We both had a warmth over out beings and reached fir the raita to cool our mouths. My dining partner didn't eat much and got a really bad stomach ache. I didn't have a stomach ache bc I did not have any of the items in this Thali set. With my dining partner getting a bad stomachache, missing one of the proteins in the order and the minimal dessert of one when it's described as a set for two people. My partner shouted a strong zero. 0/5 Since I thought the combo above would be enough, I ordered garlic naan, it also came into half circles. Naan was thick and very dry. It reminded me of Greek pita bread but with scorches from a clay oven or skillet. Im used to get getting a green and reddish dip sauce but not from this restaurant. A la carte garlic naan iis $ 4.50 person naan. 2/5 In addition I ordered mushroom matter/mutter @ $14.50. This was very different than others I've had. At other pl all, whole mushrooms. But in this container, it barely had any and the mushrooms were sliced thinly and swimming in masala sauce. It was more saucy than it's contents. I felt like perhaps it was the end of the night and they were running low on mushrooms and peas. It was more a 1/5 . Needless to say, I would not recommend this establishment based on this experience.

Misal Pav & Vada Misal - Absolutely loved the Misal! Authentic flavor, perfect spice level, and so hearty. We devoured it Sabudana Vada - Crispy outside, soft inside, and just the right size. Didn't care much for the chutney though. Sabudana Khichdi - This one didn't work for me; it leaned a bit too sweet. Ukadiche Modak & Puranpoli - The stars of the meal! Highly recommend both. The modak was soft, pillowy, and melt-in-your-mouth with a great dough-to-filling balance. The flavor and seasoning is top notch. Loved it. - Sabudana Vada: we make this often at home and is one of my favorite Maharashtrian dishes. This was not bad. A bit bland for my liking. Not at all like the Bhakri I've eaten in Maharashtra. - Puranpoli: I was super excited to try this as I absolutely love Puranpoli. But this didn't hit the mark. It was ok. Needed to be sweeter. In my naivety I hoped it was some natural food color using beetroot. But I later learnt from them that it was not. It left me appalled at the liberal use of such toxic artificial colors. Colors aside, the chicken itself was delicious. But I will make sure to ask them beforehand next time and order something that doesn't have colors. *naan-5/5- this was amazing. Hot from the tandoor. It wasn't charred at the bottom. It was light and large. It was clear that it was made by someone who knew their craft. Upset tummy aside, the chaat flavors were decent, not the best of the lot but decent nonetheless.

First off, the delivery was a smooth process, dot on time and packaged with such precision. Ankush, who runs the show at Delhicacies came to do the honors and as well left detailed instruction on how to go about preparing one of the starter dishes that we had ordered (Bhalle Papdi chaat that is). The menu we chose included Bhalle Paapdi Chaat, Cocktail Samosas, Paneer Tikka Masala, Chana Masala, Baingan Bharta, accompanied by Roomali Roti and Lacchay Pyaaz as a side salad. The Bhalle Paapdi Chaat was an instant crowd-pleaser, with the perfect balance of crispy papdi, fresh bhalle, cool sweet yogurt, tangy tamarind along with green sauces, a secret masala powder and a garnish of beetroot , pomegranate and cilantro. All of these were packed separately and instructions were provided (step by step) to prepare the end result which tasted out of the world good. It was refreshing yet packed with flavors that kept everyone asking for seconds. The Cocktail Samosas were golden, crisp, and filled with a spiced potato mixture that made them an ideal finger food--perfectly bite-sized and not greasy at all. For the main course, the Paneer Tikka Masala (PTM) stole the show with its rich, velvety sauce that coated the tender paneer in just the right amount of spice. The flavors were balanced yet bold, making it a standout dish. The earthy flavor in the paneer made it finger licking good and definitely was the biggest hit of the evening. The Chana Masala had the perfect texture--soft chickpeas simmered in a well-spiced gravy that had just the right amount of heat and tang. Cubes of paneer in there definitely made it a good overall combination and complemented with the PTM. The smoky and flavorful Baingan Bharta added an earthy depth to the meal as well. The eggplant was roasted beautifully, bringing out its natural flavors, which paired wonderfully with the Romali Roti. The roti was soft, thin, and warm, making it the ideal vehicle to soak up the gravies. We did end up heating the rotis in our microwave oven for about 10-15 seconds in batches and they remained perfect in their texture and taste. The Lacchay Pyaaz--freshly sliced onions with a sprinkle of masala--added a crunchy, refreshing bite to balance the richness of the other dishes. Overall, Delhicacies delivered an out of the world authentic North Indian culinary experience with each dish tasting as though it was prepared with care and precision. The food was flavorful, perfectly spiced, and served fresh. Our guests were impressed, and we couldn't have been happier with the quality of food and service of delivery. If you're looking for reliable and delicious Indian catering, Delhicacies should be at the top of your list! Give them a chance and thank me later. You are welcome!!!
