Came here during "off-season" in the middle of the week during my road trip. Was not planning on stopping here but I happened to fall across the name "Otter Bay" and had to exit. I walked up to the winery and other than the sweet lady that was the host, it was empty. I was able to walk in and enjoy the store and it's unique offerings (got a couple of gifts, too). I was able to chat and taste some delicious wines as well! I highly recommend this winery if it's a quick pit stop for a tasting or a glass of wine, or if you want to enjoy a romantic picnic in the garden, overlooking the ocean! 10/10 would recommend (and will return!) read more

I got the 2012 Syrah and enjoyed it quite a bit, even though I'm not too much of a red wine person. The staff were great, giving a nice glass recommendation and also explaining the individual glasses to each patron. The place itself is nice, with a great little souvenir shop for tourists, even with some classic books that you can sit and read while you sip. Now the most important part is the view. There's a back door patio area that lets you see the devil's punchbowl area from a side that you cannot see normally. Even if you don't go to wineries, go here just for the view alone. Horrible!! We basically bought a $50 bottle of water! I taste tested 2 wines which they charge $4 each for. I went with the Pinot Noir which the subtract the tasting fee for that wine only if you purchase it. We are on vacation so we popped it open right away. It was definitely not what I tasted earlier! What a joke. I'm pissed! And the guy could've been nicer that sold us the wine too. Not only was it a waste of money but now we have no wine. This is literally grape colored water. Two of us had a little wine tasting, it was different, she just poured them at the front desk and we stood and talked with her. I thought she was so amazing, so kind and informative. She also had her handmade jewelry, we bought two bracelets which are really cute. The winery itself is very small, the outside area with the view is very cute and the view is so gorgeous. Depending on what you like/expect, this is a really cute place to visit. If you like more high end experiences, probably skip this one. read more

Lovely little winery with a fantastic location. During COVID-19, they allow one party in the tasting room at a time. What we did was seat ourselves at a table in their patio area and send one member of our party into the tasting room to bring back tastes for everyone. A very nice winery! I was here with family and they really enjoyed the red wines that they had. I went the white wine route and got a wonderfully refreshing Pinot Gris. A family member had the risling which was very good as well but my heart lies with the Pinot for sure. The tasting room has a outdoor area in the back where you can enjoy the wine and at certain tables enjoy the ocean view. There is a very nice gift shop at the front of the building with all kinds of wine themed gifts and postcards. Service was friendly making our time here all the more enjoyable. read more

Such a cool stop! We've visited Otter Rock for years and never knew the winery was there. A friend gave me a bottle of the blackberry wine from here and I knew I had to visit. A hidden gem. If you are a fan of sweet wines this is a great stop! I also had the 2012 Syrah and that was good as well. The outdoor seating is beautiful. Very relaxing with wonderful views of the ocean without the harsh wind. I will definitely be back. We left with half a case of the blackberry and raspberry wines. The winery doesn't serve food but allows you to bring your own. We tried 2 reds and a white and were pleased with them all. Driving down the coast we found the Flying Dutchman Winery tucked away overlooking the ocean. What a great name and even better location. They have beautiful handcrafted pieces of art all throughout the shop. My favorites were the painted plates and mugs (I wish I remembered the artist's name). My brother bought the 2008 Oregon Cabernet Sauvignon. Made with grapes from Umpqua Valley and aged for 6.5 years in oak barrels. It's the lightest red wine I've ever had. It's crisp with fruity notes. read more

To be clear, the stressful part was parents letting kids run around, banging on tables and wrestling on the floor. The one star is for the taste of the wine. We started with Conductor wine and then 2016 Merlot. Both were hard to swallow and tasted bitter. I felt like I stumbled upon a little secret coming here. It's a small space inside with a big view outside in the back. (Go stumble upon that while you are here). The sommelier was very kind as I'm the type that waltzes in and picks whatever tasting I want and ignores the order of things. Reason is that I mostly only like one/two types of wine. I've landed on that already. I'm a pinot noir (from OREGON) person and proud of it. I might try some different whites as I've yet to land on a particular one I am fond of. I used to love chardonnay but anymore I'm just meh about. Anyway, he gave me whatever the heck I wanted with a smile. I thank him for that. I did not like how stingy the pours were however especially since they are not free. And trust me, I'm not one of those that drinks all of the samples down. ;) But, seriously I am not. Unfortunately, I didn't find a favorite there... yet. I'll still be trying though because it's just such a quaint place to check out anyway. read more

The highlight of the winery was a back area that overlooked a gorgeous section of the Oregon Coast and it was a very romantic place to enjoy our wine. We went to the winery on Friday February 10 after a visit to Devils Bowl. Do not waste your time. We have tasted wines from all over Europe, Australia, Santa Barbara , Monterey county, Napa, Sonoma, and in Oregon . Wine tasting should be a welcoming, friendly, fun experience and most often is educational. This was NOT any of those! When we walked in there was and elderly man with hat on (maybe owner) who was not very friendly. He barely acknowledged us, and he never asked if we were there to taste wine. We knew there was a tasting fee and were there to taste. He went in the back and we stood around a little while he ignored us. Then he walked back in as we were about to leave. We had seen an video on line about them having a Pinot, so I asked about that and he said " no Pinot." I asked where he got his grapes and he said "look on that paper over there". We go to Newport area a lot but will not recommend or stop in this winery ever again and will discourage others from stopping. However the chocolate place next door has very pleasant employees so a stop there is recommended. People who own wineries need to be social and willing to talk about their wines. If this man was employee he needs to be fired, because he is definitely not a fit. If he is the owner too sad! read more

The server was incredibly rude during our time. We went to the flying Dutchman winery planning on getting a tasting on a fine afternoon. In fact, we planned our entire day around a relaxing afternoon tasting some good wine. Within 3 minutes, we experienced enough rudeness that we decided to leave. We walked in to wait to be served in a line only to have the server yell, "OUT THE WAY, COMING THROUGH" in a very rude tone while we were minding our business in line. We disregarded it, even though he could have kindly said excuse me. Then when we were at the front of the line, we mentioned that our hotel had said that we could get complimentary tastings... He rudely said, "We are not affiliated with them and can't control what they tell you." And then walked to the next customer without giving us time to respond. We would have happily paid for the tasting had the server just said nicely that sorry, but they are no longer doing that promotion. Instead he just rudely scowled at us and didn't even give us a chance to order. So we left. Will never come back. And are leaving with a terrible taste in our mouth. We stopped by recently while we were driving up and down the coast and I'm glad my husband made this stop a priority. I was feeling beachy and didn't care about the winery as much, but he made sure we got our stop there. The person who poured for us was friendly and generous and advised us to check out their picnic area in the back. It was so lovely and if we'd had more time, we would have grabbed some snacks from Mo's next door and stayed for lunch. Their picnic area alone was worth the stop - it's got a great view and is a nice quiet secluded and (important for me) shady spot. I enjoyed their wines and was intrigued by their fruit wines. We will continue to enjoy the Devils Punchbowl, but, we will NOT be returning to the winery/shop. The gentleman in the shop that day was extremely rude. Did not have a greeting, a smile or an invitation. Why not...? Not a good example of the friendliness of the central Oregon coast. Don't bother placing an order to be shipped. Mgmt handles those orders and taking time to pack and ship isn't worth their time. They will also not return (multiple) phone calls or emails asking for the promised delivery information (was told the info would be provided the Monday after placing the order because the delivery requires someone to be present to sign for the package). After a week of being ignored, when I finally had enough and called to cancel the order, I got the impression this is not new behavior and my complaints would go unnoticed. If someone had responded on Tuesday and said "sorry, very busy...will ship out on x date"...or something to that effect, I may have let the order stand (and shipping was ridiculously expensive). But to completely ignore? I guess customers are not that important to this small, family owned winery. Do not recommend. read more

Located right next to the devil's punch bowl preserve, The flying Dutchman wine tasting room is a perfect stop on your day trip. The actual wine tasting room is quite cozy but it does the job and they have a lot of other chachkies for sale as well as some delicious wine. But the big winner for me is to go out through their back door to this amazing patio area with picnic tables that overlooks the Oregon coast. It is one of the best places to have a glass of wine that I have ever been to. Try them out! read more

I agree with S.C. wine tasting should be a fun experience, our time at the Flying Dutchman was far from fun. The "man with the hat" was not able to tell us anything about the wines and seemed irritated that we asked. I was so disappointed this was my brother in-laws first wine tasting experience, I had to assure him this was not a typical tasting, most places are welcoming and want to be sure people that stop in know what their wines are all about, unlike The Flying Dutchman. Awesome tiny winery on a cliff overlooking the ocean. Came for the Pinot Noir fell in love with the outside seating area. Tastings are $1.00 a taste. They also sell by the glass. Then you could enjoy the outside seating and cliff side view. They cellar the wine there at the winery in the Otter Crest Park area but get their grapes from Dundee Oregon and if you don't know.... Well. Read up. Wine and the art of it are a complex monster to wrap your head around. The clerk on staff the day I came by was nice but seemed a little taxed for his time. You get a lot of dumb questions. I. E. A lady came in and not buying anything asked about Wi-Fi and was told they have it but for business use. The lady proceeded to ask about the clerk getting the code for her... She eventually gave up and left. I however have been to the coast and know about spotty reception. I did however get a taste of Pinot Noir. Took lots of pics with my wife in the seating area and then got a great bottle of Pinot Noir 2011. I have yet to open it. Cute lil' winery located at the end of the road where the Devils Punch Bowl viewpoint trail is. We stopped in on a Sunday afternoon. The woman that was there was OK. Not real friendly and actually kinda grumpy that we were there. It seemed that everyone that was walking up for a tasting was getting the grumpy treatment. She told me right off the bat that I only get TWO tastings, and then I have to pay $10. It's a good thing I only wanted TWO tastings. I sampled their fruity wines. While they were VERY delicious, I was already "soured" by her attitude and I would not have purchased a bottle of wine even if it was the best wine I ever had!! If I had been treated like a human then the story would have been different: I would have walked out of there with a bottle of each fruit. I'll stick with my local Eola winery where they are more than happy to let me sample whatever I want and give me a 15% discount. read more
