As has been the case on each of our visits, the food and atmosphere were off the charts. The service wasn't quite as prompt this morning as what I've become accustomed to, but the experience was still great. Best of all...I saw that they now have a daily Happy ("Flocktail") Hour everyday before they close - and it is a 50% Off special - so now I can add them to HappyHourDesMoines.com also!! Today, my wife ordered the Chicken Fried Steak and a Bloody Mary (see pictures) - and with all of the new items on the menu, our friend ordered the Smoked Corn Beef Hash (see picture) and I went with the Healthy Hatch Tacos (see picture). I swapped one of my tacos with our friend for 1/2 of his hash, sampled my wife's Chicken Fried Steak - and can assure you that you will NOT go wrong ordering any of them, as all were absolutely delicious!

Crispy outside, fluffy inside, with a sweet (but not overly sweet) cream for dipping. The Choripollo Hash was perfect. The chicken and chorizo were seasoned well. Peppers, onions, jalapeños, and potatoes smothered in queso, sour cream, and pico made for a perfect bite, every time. I would recommend this place to anybody. Prices were very fair. I will absolutely be back.

They have vegan and gluten free options so everyone will find something to eat. Even my kids enjoy it here. Had the Guilt Free B&G. Comes with vegan biscuits and gravy. I ordered Just Egg with it too. It was perfect! Savory and delicious. Mr W ordered the Chicken cordon bleu breakfast and he loved it. The latte was just right as well. They had a whole list of mimosas and flights of alcohol drinks for brunch. Environment was nice and not too loud. Love the 80s theme. It felt like we time traveled into the past. Service was ok. Our server was busy but he was fine. Easy pay right at the table, didn't have to wait for a check and receipt. Our breakfast was $44.cx before gratuity. Would come back again and highly recommend

Remember it's not about food only, It's also about expectations, everyone is under staffed, so I always appreciate the service staff who are working. I also appreciate how difficult it is to find good cooks. It's in a strip mall area so parking was plentiful but I could tell that it would fill up fast as it seemed to be one busy place. Even though this restaurant is very nouveau, I've been to such places in other cities and had great experiences as well as with the classic diners. I'm a little fussy about my eggs and really rely on the service people, to be honest and have integrity about the quality of the chef who's working Most dishes are served with eggs, over easy at this restaurant and I don't really like my eggs, served that way and asked if it could be with a white cooked and yolk, soft. I said, if the cook isn't really that proficient with that, I would just take my eggs scrambled. They said it shouldn't be a problem. But when the eggs came out, they were runny, like over-easy. I was disappointed. They couldn't have just been honest with me and said you probably should get your eggs scrambled I always like to support a local venue even if its a local franchise. Having a so, so or "Meh" experience with the food. The service was fast and efficient and the food came along quickly. They serve breakfast and brunch. With the focus on mixed drinks. I probably will give them a second chance. And not order a dish that has eggs. Maybe french toast or scrambled eggs if it has eggs. I'm also a coffee person and the coffee didn't appeal to me.

Since it was Happy Hour pricing (app. 1/3 off the items we checked), the Value bumps to a 5* for this trip. All things considered, I like Barn Town Brewing and really like a few of their beers - not to mention, they are close to home. Because we were here for a Happy Hour review, we ordered only from their Happy Hour menu (all of which have pictures included below). My wife started with an amber Core beer, while I chose the Featured Flight - since it included several of their beers that I hadn't yet sampled. For our meal, we ordered the Bavarian Pretzels (see picture), Crab Rangoon Flatbread (see picture) and Wings, split between Buffalo & Honey Hot (see picture). The Pretzels are just what you would expect and the combination of mustard and cheese dipping sauces were a great complement. The wings were also tasty, although several admittedly appeared to come from a pretty deformed chicken. The flatbread would be the only thing I wouldn't order again. I expect very thin to cracker type crusts for flatbread and this was more of a thick / deep dish pizza type of crust (the picture shows it, about 1/2" thick). Further, the sauces / topping were a bit sparce - so it was quite bready and dry. If you found this review helpful, please show your appreciation with a Like or a Follow.

Good service and creative beers, especially in the sour and sugary spectrum. The unfortunate part…read moreis that some of those beers are TOO sugary that it doesn't taste/feel like beer anymore. I had experienced Barn Town at a beer festival and researched them before visiting town, so I know the experimental candy-influenced collabs are kind of their thing. The PB and Grape Jelly sour was nice and the Watermelon Sour Batch Buddies was the best of the State Fair themed bunch. Everything else packed too much of a flavor punch for me... to the point of upsetting my stomach which NEVER happens when I drink beer. I would actually go back and try some of their flagship (normal) beer offerings and food specials to get a more well rounded opinion of the brewpub.

This was an awesome gesture on their part and a great excuse for me to join a military veteran for lunch and thank him for his service. Given the free meal for him...that drove my Value rating to 5*, which enabled a very rare 5* rating overall! As with every meal at Firebirds, we were also treated to the fresh out of the oven loaf of dinner bread that is oh, so good with butter melted into it! Today I enjoyed Fish Tacos (see picture) and boy, were they delicious! Based on the weigh-in the following morning, the salt content might have been part of the reason for the great flavor...but it was worth it.
