Saw this mentioned on NPR and had to stop by on our road trip. Definitely worth a stop! Good beef. No sauce on burger but fresh veggies and onions were good. Minus points for a thick patty that was cooked too well, not medium like requested (needed to press the middle to keep it from swelling up when cooking). This restaurant was recommended to us by Matthew at the Harvest Host Atlas Ad Astra! We are so glad he did. Everything we ate was delicious. The salads, steaks & pasta dishes were so very good. Our waitress Maddisyn (Maddie) was excellent! She checked in often to see if we needed anything. We got there right as it opened and as we were leaving it was packed. It was a nice setting with the tables far enough apart that it was easy to walk through them. Hope we can come back someday! read more

I'm sure I'll stir up the locals. We were traveling on a cross-country trip and had a stop locally at the missile silo Air B&B. We were getting hungry and it was getting late, and didn't know where to go for dinner. The host of the Air B&B suggested Fly Boy as it was apparently absolutely delicious. We arrived, and it appeared to be one of the only restaurants in town. The restaurant was very busy, but we didn't mind waiting. We got seated after waiting for about 20 minutes. The servers were friendly. It took a long while to get drinks and our order of 2 salads. I ordered a salad with an up charge of $6 + for grilled chicken. My other half got the same salad without a protein. The chicken was a chicken breast that someone just sliced down the middle. It was incredibly thin and gross. The lettuce was not too fresh, the lettuce tasted like it was not washed off properly before making the salad. My lettuces had a dirt flavor to it. There were supposed to be "homemade" croutons on the salad, but those were MIA. Maybe I ordered the wrong thing, I don't know. Would I recommend the place- no, but then again, I'm not from the area at all and have no idea where the next town is with more options for food, so this might be the only place around to eat. read more

Food was fine, service was okay, and the beer was mediocre. I heard that wait times were long so we showed up early. We took a seat at the bar and a server took our drink order. We waited and waited. Finally I inquired where our drink order was. Turns out she was too young to serve alcohol and the cook had to pour the drinks. Beer was very harsh and overhopped. Stout was very good. We decided to take the 1hr drive to Flyboys restaurant from Salina. We were a little worried about driving all that way without a reservation. I had called the restaurant to ask about wait times. They said during super busy times, Friday and Saturday nights, it could be hit or miss but if there is a wait it might only get up to maybe 20-30 mins but that's about it. I mean try and go somewhere in town (Salina/Hays/Wichita) and not have a 20 minute wait on a Fri/Sat night. We arrived about 7pm and there was a very nice crowd but no wait. The atmosphere was great, a quaint small town with an amazing restaurant on Main Street. The inside was just right, nice decor on the walls(mostly aviation stuff) but not too much where it's annoying or trying too hard(roadhouse look) and the noise was just right to still have a normal conversation over drinks. Our food was amazing! Two in our party had the special, Beef Stroganoff, and you could easily tell this was not some whipped together hamburger helper knock off. Several of the ingredients were locally sourced but all were made in house. The other two had Chicken Fried Steak with mashed potatoes and corn. In my opinion, this dish along with a basic hamburger tells a lot about your restaurant. If you can't make a basic hamburger then nothing else on the menu will be good. If you're stepping up your game and you raise the bar by putting a Chicken Fry on the menu then it better be good. It can not be frozen, must have a good ratio of meat to crunchy crust/breading, and the meat needs to be a good tenderized cut, not gristley and tough. Every restaurant says their chicken fry is "The Best"...I've found that most should just leave it off the menu. Flyboys however knocked it out of the park. The meat was perfect. The potatoes were creamy and fluffy. The corn was sweet and juicy. Lastly the gravy very nicely complimented it all. I'm a ketchup person but I definitely did not need to use the red stuff here; gravy all the way. There were a couple very small hiccups with our order but it was promptly and generously corrected. That part was very impressive. Overall the restaurant was phenomenal and the service was impressive. read more

Fly Boy was absolutely worth the drive from Wilson where we were spending the night. We arrived for dinner Saturday night and all the tables were full--go Fly Boy! We gladly sat at the bar. Conversation with the bartender, enjoying our flights of beer, munching on delicious food--what a great experience! The owners have worked hard to make this a great restaurant that would do well in any town but is particularly charming in this out-of-the-way town. read more

A very nice, locally owned steakhouse and brewery. Service was a bit slow but staff was very nice and food, while fairly "basic" was good!

We love the Fly Boy Brewery and Eatery in Sylvan Grove, a little town just off of I-70 on your way to Denver. The owner and bar tender, Clay, is very friendly. He is also a pilot thus the Brewery/ Eatery is only Open Thursday through Sunday. The food is excellent and you can rent the whole area out for catered parties. His wife, a teacher in Sylvan Grove, is also in charge of the kitchen and is a great chef . Clay almost always has several seasonal brews to offer. The beer is not offered in bottles at this point however Growlers are offered. The Eatery is Fly Boy Eatery and recently the Brewery has been named Props & Hops Brewery as Clay is applying for a brewery franchise so he can bottle his beer. If you are headed west (or east) on I-70 we recommend that you give this little town and establishment a few minutes of your time! read more

We have eaten here twice. The first time it was really good and we enjoyed the food and we recommended it. The second time it was average at best. I don't think the menu has been updated for prices. We had 3 burgers, one chicken friend steak, and an appetizer or two and it was $66 total. My wife said her burger was way over cooked and my chicken friend steak tasted like it was from a box. After this last visit I don't think I would drive an hour and a half to do it again. read more

This place is clean and a welcome reprieve after spending the day at Wilson Lake. The service was friendly and very prompt with quite the selection of beer/wine/cocktails. There was a lot of menu choices, and my husband loved that everything was plane themed. For example, the sides were called "co-pilots" and the desserts were called "final descents." Pretty cute and not what you'd expect in small town Kansas. The owners and staff are doing a great job! read more

I love the Fly Boy Eatery and Props & Hops Brewery. The food is great. Right now I'm at a Private Christmas Party with fantastic food & drink. Clay is the owner and bar tender, his wife is the chef and manages the Eatery and catering as well as teaching at the Sylvan Grove High School. The establishment can be rented out for private catered parties. Clay recently added the name Props & Hops Brewery as he is applying for a franchise to enable him to bottle his brew. Currently Growlers are available and of course there's plenty of brew on tap! He almost always has new seasonal offerings featuring the fruits available in the area. His first name choice, Fly Boy Brewery, was already a franchise name in Oregon! I like Props & Hops Brewery and I think you give it a few minutes, or a few hours, of your time! It makes a great stop on I-70 between KC and Denver. I think you'll approve of Clay's brew & food! read more

A microbrewery in the middle of nowhere! Hooray!! Fun atmosphere with an airplane theme. Only open Thurs-Saturday which is vaguely genius considering its rural location. The burgers were very good and I enjoyed the beer flight which included a rhubarb beer. The highlight was the beer cheese dip and chips. The"chips" are homemade and reminiscent of Pita chips but are slightly soft on the inside. It makes for a delightful texture to pair with the dip. The service was friendly and attentive which was remarkable considering the place was packed. It's a real community diamond in the rough. read more

Got a bacon cheeseburger with fries and 6 mild wings was ok. Bacon could have been cooked a lil more.

We were looking forward to some good brews and food, but they were out of two of the regular beers listed on thier menu. Both my hamburger and my mom's was too well done...a little crispy. Nobody checked on us or I would have sent it back. Took a long while to get our check...we had to track down our server to get it and he gave us the wrong one. This used to be a great restaurant ...has the management changed? Hope they can fix a few things! read more
