Stopped in to Trio Tap House on our way through Hays. From Arkansas. Had several options for dining and gladly stopped at Trio. Food was Very good and a nice pub feel for ambience. Sat at the bar and was waited on by Clay. Clay is very good at what he does. Ordered an Old Fashioned which was one of the best I've had. Brunch! Visited on launch day of Trio's brunch menu, needless to say it was a hit. The chilaquiles are a must try served with perfectly cooked over easy eggs. Staff are always welcoming with local owners Claudia and Clay who make you always feel at home. Highly recommend the White Russian flight. We overnite in Hays two to four times a year and always eat at the Trip Tap House! Love the atmosphere and the food!

They are understaffed, so things moved a little slow. But considering they had one bartender, 1 server, and 1 host running a full restaurant, I was impressed. The food was amazing and totally worth the wait. Our server suggested the Mac and cheese, and it was tasty, but not something I'd come back for. The brisket sandwich was really tender and had great flavor- loved the bbq sauce and the honey mustard. The sweet potato fries were up there with the best I'd ever had- perfectly crispy and tender with just a little salt. The banana fosters cheesecake was downright sinful- candied nuts with caramel and banana slices on top of a thickly cut slice of cheesecake. I may have tried to stab my husband with a spoon to get an extra bite. Lots of beer choices, although I was hoping for some options from the local shops in Hays. We had the peach wheat from Breckinridge brewery in co and a Hefeweizen from the oldest brewery in Bavaria. Both were excellent- the hefweizen was the perfect pair with the cheesecake. Absolutely would come back to try more from their bar as well as their other food and the turtle cheesecake. read more

A small, quaint dining experience. I started with a happy hour order of calamari, while it was tasty, it seemed a bit overdone. Our USDA prime steaks were prepared as ordered and flavorful (perhaps even slightly over-seasoned). Truly, this was the best food we had during our stay in Hays. As with most of our time in Hays, the staff was polite though our waitress could have visited our table a bit more often. Interestingly, the asparagus had a maple flavor to it. Best in Hays We moved here about a year ago, and I'm actually mad our friends had not yet recommended TRIO to us. We went tonight for the first time, and we loved everything about it. Most other places have one or two things going for them, but TRIO has it all. Great drinks and Bartenders, my wife wanted drinks off the menu and not only did they happily make them, they made recommendations for new drinks to try that were better than what she had wanted! And the food. Best we've had in town. The Nachos were unbelievably good. My wife got the pasta, it was amazing, I got the fish tacos and they were SOOOO good, reminded me of the great fish tacos I got in California a few years back. And to top it off, the service was fabulous. We didn't want to sit at a table that was available when we got there, so they cleared another table people had just left and got us seated at it quickly. Then the Waiter, Jack, went out of his way to make sure everything we wanted was perfect. Making some special requests was not a problem at all, and he would ask for alternatives in case the cooks couldn't make it happen. He was helpful, thoughtful, and energetic. That's the trifecta of great service. I honestly can't say enough about this restaurant. If you haven't tried it yet, you absolutely must. read more

I found this place on Yelp on a trek on a RT. 70 from Colby back to KC, MO on a business trip with one of my colleagues. He had another place in mind but after I read him the elite reviews he was sold to give it a try. I started with an AP to drink. We both ordered the chicken fried steak with a twice baked potato. I got mine with green beans and he got the creamed corn and both meals came with a garden salad. My colleague recommended this dressing that was a combo of thousand island dressing, and peppercorn dressing. The name has slipped my mine, but it was quite tasty. The Chicken fried steak was tasty with the white pepper gravy. The twice baked potato had a bacon and cheese topping and complimented the CFS very well. The green beans were very unique with a sweet syrup taste with peppered bacon. Definitely a side worth giving a try when to hit this place. So, we usually make our halfway stop between Denver and home at Lb Brewery, but we decided to shake it up a bit and stop at TRIO on our return route. They did have a number of "craft" beers on tap and more in bottles (even had a Prairie Ale). I was introduced to a really delicious Monk & Honey from Torn Label in KC. This beer was served with an actual drizzle of honey around the rim. Nice touch. We were there around 2 o'clock on a Saturday afternoon and the place was deserted which isn't usually a good sign. We ordered a burger and the turkey sandwich. The burger was good but nothing fancy. I would recommend the sandwich, though, which was piled with turkey, bacon and cheese. The focaccia bread had a hint of rosemary which was a good compliment to the turkey. The menu said it was "layered with avocado" but mine came out on the side. I think if the atmosphere had been better (read "not as dead"), it might merit five stars. We will probably stop in again on the next road trip. read more
