She works with top notch contractors - from plumbers to painters to tilers and others. She was very responsive to our many queries and always on top of the numerous details associated with our project. She was an expert in ensuring I was not overloaded with decisions- especially the myriad and constant small ones. She provided options she knew would appeal rather then overloading me with trivia or ones that wouldn't suit our Reno. I would recommend her both professionally and personally.

Homefront Ideas/Ms. Palmer's contract provided no detail and for this I have paid dearly. Ms…read more Palmer claims that I made changes to the plan. This is untrue. No changes were made to her cabinet maker's original drawings, which Ms. Palmer sent me a full week and a half before I signed her contract. The drawings clearly show crown molding, spice racks, and a panel at the end of the cabinet. When Ms. Palmer's right-hand man cut down the small portion of the pony wall attached to the narrow vertical wall in the kitchen, he did so without any care whatsoever. The wall was left bulging and crooked and therefore impossible to tile over. Ms. Palmer ignored this problem and had the quartz countertop installed without first correcting it. She left this portion of the wall completely unfinished. Ms. Palmer acknowledges that she always knew about the under cabinet puck lights. However, the upper cabinets were not constructed for this type of lighting and the required electrical work was not completed prior to the installation of the cabinetry. This happened in spite of the fact that all skilled contractors know that renovation work needs to take place in the proper order. As an example of Ms. Palmer's work, on the day my appliances were delivered it was discovered that the allotted space within the custom-built lower cabinetry was too narrow and the countertops were too low to accommodate the new slide-in stove. This should have been impossible given that Ms. Palmer and her cabinet maker had the stove specifications (standard 30" width and the height) long before the construction of the cabinetry ever began. Ms. Palmer's only defence to all these egregious mistakes is to make absurd allegations and to talk about her supposedly glowing business reputation. Unfortunately for Ms. Palmer I have a binder filled with proof (photographs, professional reports, etc) that refutes everything she has said. Homefront Ideas/Ms. Palmer botched the renovation to the point that I would not let her or her trades back into my home to cause further damage. Ms. Palmer/Homefront Ideas provided nothing close to the high end renovation that she promised. She failed on every level. The carpentry, cabinetry, plumbing and painting were completely inadequate. I ended up having to hire and pay actual professionals to try to fix her countless mistakes. It was a 2 year nightmare. Anyone considering hiring her should first check her BC civil court record. Hiring Homefront Ideas, trusting her was a huge mistake and I have to live with the incredibly unprofessional job she did.

Creating dream kitchens is clearly their passion. I chose Merit cabinetry in white and it just looks stunning with the countertop from Colonial. (Jessica organizes the whole thing, not just the cabinets.) She suggested a tap that has little divots in the handle, that look like rhinestones. I can't tell you how much pleasure I get from that tap! Truong and Brad (installers) are similarly fabulous people and pay huge attention to the tiniest of details. I just cannot say enough good things and would give ten stars if that rating were available.

Poor Quality and Unethical Business Practices…read more Unfortunately, we hired Island Dream Kitchens to build and install two very expensive, custom built-in bookcases and were assured repeatedly by the owner that the finished product would be of "furniture quality". During delivery, the installers, led by the owner's son, dropped one of the bookcases over 3 feet off the back of the truck, a fact only discovered after one of the other tradespeople told us. When questioned, he assured us that "it landed perfectly" and that any issues would be resolved after the install. Once the bookcases had been moved into the house it was obvious that the company had either failed to take accurate measurements of the space available or failed to make the cabinets accurately and consequently were too large for the space in which they were to be placed. Instead of stopping and resolving the issue at that time, we were assured that they could still be installed and would look perfect upon completion and that we would not be charged until we were completely satisfied. Foolishly, we took them at their word and allowed them to continue. During the installation, more damage was done to walls, ceiling, trim, stonework and a custom built mantle that had just been installed, costing significant time and money to repair. Once the installation was "complete"; we were left with gaps as large as 1/4" in the bookcase shelves, shelves and doors that were misaligned and scratches and dents all over the bookcases. Upon raising these concerns with the owner, he assured us his "finisher" would fix everything. When the finisher arrived, the solution appeared to be filling everything with massive amounts of caulking, which also was dropped on our new hardwood floors and tracked all over the living room requiring hours of clean up by us. We informed the owner of the poor workmanship and that we were not happy with the finished product and his response was to charge our credit card in full because it was "in the contract". Obviously, ethical business practices and customer satisfaction have no relevance in this business's operation. I would strongly encourage anyone to reconsider their decision if you are planning on working with these people. If you do decide to subject yourself to what will undoubtedly be a painful and ultimately, disappointing experience; under no circumstances give them access to your credit card.
