The lady at the front desk said I was "required" to use synthetic oil. When I questioned that (I'm a bit of a car nut), she said I should look it up on the internet or my service manual. And she went ahead and wrote up my work order for synthetic oil (which BTW costs twice as much as regular oil). So I went home and looked it up. Nowhere does it say synthetic oil is required. In fact, it can be bad for older cards (it finds leaks). In fact, it is not even recommended. Sites will tell you the benefits (such as longer between oil changes, better gas mileage), but never any mention of being required. When will companies learn that tricking a customer increases their revenue for that one day - but will lose them future business when the customer goes somewhere else from now on. BTW the sticker they put on the window (to remind me of my next oil change) still said only 5,000 miles - not the 7,000 or 10,000 that is usual for synthetic oil Good night Finley's. So . . . we read the reviews for API and decided to give it a try for an oil change on our Outback. Very satisfied! They were friendly, quick and reasonably priced. Cost a bit more than the '"Drive-thru' oil changers but not by much and I'll happily pay more for a real technician who knows cars and takes pride in their work vs the low-paid gen x-er working at the drive thru oil change place who spends more time looking at his phone screen than he does at the car.
